I'm unsure about this but I'm on dating sites and as we all know it's full of parasites.

I was speaking to an elected councillor who I thought was decent, he sent me nudes, vulgar text etc. He swiftly deleted it but it's really wrong, I have screenshot etc. He was disgusting.

I'm not on about selling per se for money but we shouldn't have creeps like this representing us.

In what context? Was this on a dating site? It seems to me that if you're on a dating site you can't legitimately fault someone for being sexual, even if it's not to your taste. And he shouldn't be outed. Now, if you were emailing him as a constituent, asking for help in his professional capacity, that would be different.

LittleCharlotte · 19/03/2025 01:19

Once more for those at the back: sending unsolicited nudes is a CRIME regardless of which phone it's on, or which site you're on.

Why are so many women struggling with this?

Teanbiscuits33 · 18/03/2025 21:00

Why would a councillor’s personal mobile number be listed on the government website? He could have all sorts of people texting him if that was the case. They don’t just put mobile numbers on public websites. It doesn’t make any sense.

Edited

I've just checked three local authorities in my area - every one of them has mobile numbers for members. They are mobile phones which are paid for by the council but used by the individual councillor. The numbers are listed so their local constituents can get hold of them. OP is correct. She may well think it's his personal mobile but he's actually using council property to share his dick pics and should obviously be reported for being a pervert.

How do you know they are paid for by the council? We were never given phones (ex-councillor), just used our own. A couple of people had a second phone number for their council work, but they provided that themselves.

Report him to the council he sits on and also the political party he represents. If they fail to take appropriate action then possibly contact a radio/tv/newspaper that covers the local area. If your concern is removing him from his position of power then go through official channels rather than the media.

wanderingandwonderingnow · 19/03/2025 06:34

If he sent unsolicited nudes that's a crime, report it to the police. It's called cyber flashing

Localres · 19/03/2025 08:20

ToKittyornottoKitty · 18/03/2025 22:12

She also said she screenshoted the messages before he deleted them so I’m not sure why that’s confused you.

Ah I missed that, sorry.

I think there’s some really weird reactions on this thread. He sounds vile and I’m glad you have evidence to report him to the right people - eg his work and the police.

I suppose the issue some people have is that they are concerned your first thought seemed to be (albeit that you clarified later) to report to the press for money rather than to the police as a crime. And as i have done myself, people then do miss follow up comments. So please - report him!

BringMeTea · 19/03/2025 09:25

@LittleCharlotte there are several menz crawling over this thread. They know it's illegal but they want to berate women and downplay this scummy behaviour. Best to ignore the saddos.

StasisMom · 19/03/2025 09:31

Toothicktounderstand · 18/03/2025 20:53

Sorry if this has been mentioned but isn’t it an offence to send unsolicited nude pictures? I don’t know, just thought it was.

Not finished the thread but yes, it’s called Cyberflashing, it’s a relatively new crime.

13Ghosts · 19/03/2025 09:39

All of my local councillors have mobile numbers on the Council's surgeries page.

They are work mobiles not their personal numbers.

@cupsandcupsoftea Most likely be a council issue if he using a work number for explicit imaging. Gross misconduct.

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 18/03/2025 23:25

I really don't think a women's charity would want to be associated with the profits of a sleazy story in the press

Charitable donations can be anonymous.

GrouchyMe · 19/03/2025 11:40

Sadly Mumsnet, won’t take this down, but it’s grubby, and shows you in a very bad light too, OP

We messaged on the dating app then I found his number via the government website. He replied, verified himself sent me nudes, horrible messages. I just don't think this is right.

Why would you look for his number on a government site? Odd.

StasisMom · 19/03/2025 13:07

I am dubious about this story but I have just checked, and my local councillor's mobile number is on the website.

Bleeky · 19/03/2025 18:15

Get the money before you share photos.

Look on tabloids for similar stories, scroll to bottom & usually see a name and email contact them.

Never give away the goods until you have the money & agreement in writing,

TimeConsuming · 19/03/2025 18:16

That makes more sense of you contacting him outside the app.

it’s definitely of interest to someone. There must be a code of conduct, a local party that selected him as their candidate, and a local paper where he holds office — doesn’t have to be local to you.

JustMy2Pennith · 19/03/2025 18:28

A national newspaper would possibly pick it up, especially if he's married.

What he did was actually abusive, sending un solicited nudes is the equivalent of flashing, many men do this aggressively and casually in equal measure, without any invitation to do so, I cant believe women are defending this behaviour here.

It's not 'revenge porn' at all, they have sent you this material without your consent.

Odd that someone said to expose them on social media in order to remain anonymous - I mean it's not anonymous if it's on your account.

Google some national papers, contact their features desk and see if they want it, I wouldn't blame you in the least.

However you have to also discuss and consider the possible repercussions in full.

tommyhoundmum · 19/03/2025 18:40

cupsandcupsoftea · 18/03/2025 20:16

If so, how? I'm not wanting money just to expose.

Write to the head of your local council and complain.

Hadenough2021 · 19/03/2025 19:21

Are you by any chance near Milton Keynes?

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 19/03/2025 19:34

Chungai · 18/03/2025 23:20

If OP's story is correct she was trying to do him a favour.

The number she got is in the public domain.

I'd actually be grateful to know someone was impersonating me online or using my information to catfish.

Exactly. People are being really nasty to OP when she was trying to give someone a heads up that she thought their photos were being used to catfish her. A reasonable assumption if his messages were really vile. You wouldn't expect a public figure to be so bold.

And it is very common for public figures (especially less well known ones) to have their photos stolen for use on dating sites. Everything from spouses making fake profiles to try and find their cheating spouse, to general catfishes, to money scammers who do it because a semi public figure seems more trustworthy, but not so famous it is unbelievable.

She was being kind, and he repayed her by sending multiple unsolicited nudes.

The PP blaming OP because she messaged him and was also on a dating site are doing some good old fashioned misogynistic victim blaming.

Dogsbreath7 · 19/03/2025 19:35

I would report to the council ‘standard in office’ department. Keep records of everything.

the nudes is bad enough but the horrible posts are worse.

if he isn’t an independent also complain the local and central political party. If no one acts contact local paper. Don’t ask for money it will make you look like you were fishing. The bigger story will be non action anyway.

if he keeps messaging go to police due to harassment.

Emonade · 19/03/2025 19:38

cupsandcupsoftea · 18/03/2025 20:32

Well they do, that's how I messaged from his mobile.

What were the original horrible messages?
