To think DH is a nob

Can you tell me if AIBU or if DH is being an nob please.

Every other Sunday I go to the pub quiz with my friends. I get ready at 5pm and go to pick up my friend. DH looks after DD age 6. Before I go I iron her uniform and do her homework with her (school sends a spelling, reading, writing task home every Friday to do for Monday).

Every time DH asks what’s for DD’s tea? I say I don’t know, it’s your night to look after her, I’m busy having a shower. There’s dried pasta, tomatoes, cheese, bread, ham, broccoli, various other ingredients. So then he starts squealing well maybe you should do some DIY (or gardening, or washing the car, or whatever he’s been doing that day) and then I’ll handle DD’s dinner.

AIBU for not feeding her? For context we both work, I’ve cooked for the last 13 nights and this is the only time I go out.

He says this every fortnight. What’s for DD’s tea? And on the night where he’s been out at his hobby till 10pm he says what’s for my tea? He texts me on his way home when I’m asleep in bed, what’s for my tea? He’s a grown man, why is it my problem what he has for his tea! Then if I say that he gets annoyed and says I’m being nasty.

That would grind my gear. I'd be the same, why is it my problem? Does he care what you had for your tea? It's nice being cooked for, don't get me wrong, but expect it like this like a child 🙄

He is awful. He is truly awful. You need to do far, far less for him.

Happyonfriday · 17/03/2025 20:03

I suppose he’s “babysitting” his daughter too ?
ugh!! He’s a knob! A selfish knob!

carry on what you’re doing, if he doesn’t want to cook he can order takeaway for daughter too!

pollymere · 17/03/2025 20:29

How do you know she wouldn't eat a chicken kebab? It turned out to be my picky kid's favourite.

Mine would ask purely to check that there wasn't something planned or to check what ingredients are available. We always have a Roast on Sundays so it's usually snacks rather than a meal in the evening. Maybe he should ask her what she'd like rather than you? It seems mean that you both get treats whilst she gets pasta. Could she not have chips or chicken or a burger as a treat?

shes her daughter? Do you think maybe she might know whether she’d eat it or not? This is a very weird take, and irrelevant to the point of the thread.

Do, what’s his role in her life?

No he's not a "nob" because nobs can be quite useful sometimes...... 😁

"But Yes"

MusicMakesItAllBetter · 18/03/2025 16:42

He's being a knob because he's jealous of you going out

My god he's a princess 🙄

Tell him you're a grown ass man, you know this is going to come around every two weeks so use your brain during those 14 days and decide what you're going to do for DD dinner.
And as for the 10pm texts... Get a kebab on the way home

Vodkamummy · 22/03/2025 18:06

Ovladie · 16/03/2025 18:37

He orders a kebab for himself. He’s annoyed he has to cook for DD. Wants me to have laid something out so he doesn’t have to use his brain. I can’t feed her before I get ready because it’s too early.

He knows when it’s his turn, it’s in the calendar and I remind him. I’ve done my bit with her homework and stuff, he never does any of that.

If he is ordering a kebab for himself, why can't he order something for dd? It's not that difficult is it? On the rare occasions I go out if husband orders a takeaway, he gets something for our dd too. If it's once every couple of weeks it's not going to hurt her is it. Yes he is a knob 😆

2025willbemytime · 22/03/2025 18:08

So he wants you to wash the car so that he doesn't feel hard done by for cooking his child's tea?

Igmum · 22/03/2025 18:17

Nob

muddyford · 22/03/2025 18:20

I want a kebab now.

Glitterballofdreams · 22/03/2025 18:31

Nah you’re not being unreasonable. But I completely sympathise with you. I work nights and I prepare dinner for my husband and our children otherwise he’s like a deer in the headlights! Men are crazy

He could get her a chicken nugget meal or a burger whilst he’s getting his kebab! Or you could suggest a pizza and then they could share. He is being a knob, for certain.

Doingmybestbut · 22/03/2025 18:48

Call his bluff: ok, let’s swap. I’ll do the weekend gardening and you do all the weekly cooking, organise DD’s clothes and sort out her homework.

Men are crazy

My husband does all the shopping and cooking!

Ellejay67 · 22/03/2025 18:57

They're all nobs

No, they’re not.

cheziebabe · 22/03/2025 22:20

just leave a can of soup and toast . kids tea doesn't have to be huge. easier to add leaving her a simple tea to your jobs list than face the downer of the row. don't forget or forgive. this relationship isn't level. quietly youll find a away to level it .

Bonglington2019 · 23/03/2025 10:24

Yes hes being a total knob .Your entitled to a rest and time for you - fuck him x

IamMoodyBlue · 23/03/2025 15:49

A knob definitely.
Here we are in 2025, and still he thinks that whatever a woman does in the home is her duty, whereas what ever he does deserves a medal.
Preparing (say) one meal in 42 for his daughter is too much for him? Pathetic!

arethereanyleftatall · 23/03/2025 15:54

How on Earth is staying with someone who is so stupid and lazy they can’t cook pasta for their own child better than being single?

grumpymacgrumpface · 23/03/2025 15:56

I’m assuming he will actually feed her if you don’t, in which case you are not being unreasonable.

In the unlikely event that you know she’ll go hungry if you don’t feed her then you are being a tad unreasonable but he’s being something much worse.

But I’m assuming the former is the case.
