To think the average Londoner is better looking?

I’m from a town near Manchester. Often go to towns nearby and into Manchester. There are all sorts of people of course.

I am currently in London and I can’t get out of my head that the average person here is much more attractive than the average person outside of London. I can’t place why. Is it that people here have more dosh for skincare?😂

I think it’s to do with money and depends what part of London you are in.

LadyKenya · 16/03/2025 09:13

I can't say that I have noticed this, I must say.

DragonBalls · 16/03/2025 09:13

Grabs Popcorn

(And my retinol serum)

I can't say that I have noticed this, I must say.

Me neither. I went to New York last year and was struck by how slim and stylish the New York women were in comparison to us in London.

SmugglersHaunt · 16/03/2025 09:16

I live in London, so thanks! (I’m sure it was probably me you saw)

I live in London, so thanks! (I’m sure it was probably me you saw)

And I was walking just behind you.

Whoarethoseguys · 16/03/2025 09:18

Of course that's not the case!

HelenWheels · 16/03/2025 09:18

i noticed this when i moved out of london

JoanOgden · 16/03/2025 09:19

I live in London and IME Londoners are slimmer on average than the UK population generally - probably because they drive less and use public transport more so have to walk a lot. They're also richer on average so have more money for healthy food and nice clothes.

socks1107 · 16/03/2025 09:20

thank you! 😊 (tbh I work in London and people generally look better than my closest town but think we maybe make more effort for work and jobs and money are better?)

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 16/03/2025 09:21

I dunno, I reckon my burly Yorkshire farmers could give those Londoners a run for their money!

After a good bath and getting out of the milking overalls, obviously.

PlatinumBrunette · 16/03/2025 09:21

I’ve noticed it too. Yes I was watching you all! You look amazing.
it’s all the walking. So much walking! When I lived there I walked miles each day - no exaggeration and had muscles and a figure. Now, well, not so much.

Lambington · 16/03/2025 09:22

Yanbu. It's the way Londoners hold themselves. Comfortable in their own skin.
They are also generally kinder and more tolerant than those in other parts of the country which comes out in their faces - a smile makes everone look more attractive than a frown.
People in the "regions" always seem to be scowling / complaining / blaming someone else. Not attractive behaviours.

ImmediateReaction · 16/03/2025 09:22

I thought a lot of Londonrers were pretty ugly. We all have different ideas of attractive @raelech

Did you hang out around Harley Street and see all the plastics and fillers, feels like a movie scene and not a good one.

TheaBrandt1 · 16/03/2025 09:23

Dh and I have noticed this. Once you see it you can’t unsee it. We visited a large city in the midlands and shall we say no one was conventionally good looking.

We wondered if those who were good looking were more confident/ ambitious so went to London. Or the more attractive women left for more exciting places? Same applies in New York. Also places where wealthier people live. Know I will be shouted at but it’s true!

unfold1 · 16/03/2025 09:23

I think generally bigger cities will have more attractive people as there’s larger and more diverse populations, more creatives and wealthier people.

Quote from The Office “she’d probably be a 6 in New York but she’s a 7 here in Scranton”

Also when you’re visiting London you’re likely in the desirable areas with wealthier people.

Highly doubt you visited Wood Green or Canning Town for example😂

fatgirlswims · 16/03/2025 09:25

YANBU for the places I have visited in London I agree. But also depends on the place. I’m sure some of the areas with highest levels of deprivation won’t be the same.

But yes statistically:
more money /less deprivation
longer life expectancy
younger average age
more access to services
high number in creative industries
Better clothes shops
higher rates of exercise
Higher public transport use so more walking
More media influence / lifestyle influence

RanchRat · 16/03/2025 09:26

When I moved North from London I noticed the men's arses were twice the size of the London bum.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 16/03/2025 09:28

So different from my town centre.

But in Central London when I go and the places I go it's a lot of people who work in London. So reasonably healthy (able to work) and well off enough to live in London. I'm sure there's other areas we could go that would be different.

My town centre is usually full of those not currently working. So older people, people with mobility issues, disabilities, people not in work,.

London is usually people working or people there For A Reason rather than local mooch for something to do town. Or to pick something up for the kids or pop to the chemist.

Capital cities will be different!

Diningtableornot · 16/03/2025 09:29

Not better looking but often better turned out and more expensively dressed. Also younger!!

AppropriateAdult · 16/03/2025 09:31

It would make sense, wouldn’t it - London is the biggest UK base for people working in media, entertainment and other ‘public’ roles, where looks and grooming are prioritised. It also tends to be where the super-rich live, so the people with the most access to high-end skincare and cosmetic surgery and well tailored clothes. And it attracts lots of young foreign travellers, who tend to be slim and fit and tanned.

SomethingDifferentBloomed · 16/03/2025 09:31

Nah this can’t be right, I live in North Yorkshire and I’m well good looking

DustyMaiden · 16/03/2025 09:31

When I go to London it’s clear a very large proportion of the people don’t live there.

chollysawcutt · 16/03/2025 09:33

They're probably not from the UK, tbh.

x2boys · 16/03/2025 09:34

Well if your in the wealthier bits of London you are going to have people who have the money to look after themselves
Bet it's not the same in a supermarket in a rough area with a stressed out parent on benefits ,Trying to do some shopping with a couple of kids though.
