Classmate with TV in bathroom

My son goes to a state school and his classmate keeps going on about having a TV in his bathroom. Aibu to think this is the most pointless and ridiculous thing ever!?
No amount of money would make me even consider having that!

my son said he keeps bragging about it so I said he should tell him to take a book to the bog instead!!! 🤣

Jacuzzi bath? That TV is for porn 🤣

Hillsaremyhappyplace · 16/03/2025 22:38

We’ve got one! Haha. We got it tiled in when we got our en-suite done. My husband loves it. Watches all his sport whilst soaking in the bath. We don’t have a TV in our bedroom if that goes in our favour 😂

FaithFables · 16/03/2025 22:39

This was my dream when I was a kid! I was determined to be rich enough to have a TV in my bathroom when I grew up. 😂Of course nowadays no one needs a TV in the bathroom, just use your phone.

RafaFan · 16/03/2025 23:09

What is the relevance of the state school?

Julimia · 16/03/2025 23:17

What on earth has school type and money got to do with this? If it's what you choose fine If it's not , fine. Do your own thing and you will encourage your children to do the same

SassySusie · 16/03/2025 23:28

I don’t watch much tv at all, it I wod
acthally love to watch while soaking in the bath.

ThinWomansBrain · 16/03/2025 23:31

Often watch a film on my laptop while in the bath.

EMary12345 · 16/03/2025 23:51

Oooh would love this ... bubble bath, no hubby or kids and greys anatomy!!

Jumpingthruhoops · 16/03/2025 23:55

What's 'ridiculous' and 'pointless' about being able to have a relaxing bath while watching an episode of your favourite TV show? Sounds epic!
You sound a bit jealous to be honest...

Polarbear2023 · 17/03/2025 01:49

We have 1 🤣 when we moved in to this house it was on the top of the list of things I wanted and no regrets. We have a lush bath and I sit and watch my itv dramas in the bath 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

User79853257976 · 17/03/2025 01:55

What’s it got to do with going to a state school?

It wouldn’t be for me (I rarely watch TV), but I can think of more pointless and ridiculous things than a telly in the bathroom.

HumphreyCushionintheHouse · 17/03/2025 03:54

I have one. When I was postpartum, I’d have a soak in the bath once DH got home and took over baby care. It was me time and the greatest thing ever. Baby is now 13 and I still like a soak and a telly session (with wine if I’m so inclined), it’s the quietest room in the house.

MrsPeregrine · 15/03/2025 10:18

Why the need to be so judgemental about other peoples’ choices that have absolutely nothing to do with you?

This.

Millions of people use their phones and tablets in the loo. Films while bathing, listening to news whilst getting ready for work, or otherwise. If someone takes it a step further and mounts a TV, who cares?

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 17/03/2025 06:50

My in laws have two TVs in their kitchen. One massive one mounted in the wall behind the dining table, and a small one on the kitchen worktop at the far end.

The dining table one really annoys me. In spite of having two further lounges with ample seating and big TVs, it's their best TV, so they will sit around watching football on it on dining chairs rather than go somewhere comfortable. And because I happily opt to face away from the TV during meals, I get people craning their necks around me.

Emmz1510 · 17/03/2025 07:25

No it’s not ridiculous. I think I’d rather enjoy watching TV while having a soak in the tub.

CarrieOnComplaining · 17/03/2025 07:28

People have TVs in kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms.

If I wanted to lie in the bath watching TV (I don’t) I’d much rather a proper tv on the wall than risk my phone or tablet falling in the bath while I squinted at it.

It seems entirely unremarkable.

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 17/03/2025 07:34

A TV in the bathroom? How very common!
Only books alllowed!
Having said that, I once stayed in a hotel with a tv at the foot of the bath. Loved it, but spent whole time thinking I would be electrocuted during The Apprentice!

I guess it’s a cliche of private schools, most who attend are rich Russians or footballers kids and that’s where you expect it. (Friend teaches at private and that’s what she has told me).

Edited

My eldest went to a private school, we lived on a council estate!

OMG, I'd forgotten this. I stayed in the swankiest hotel once (got upgraded). The bathroom had a huge adjacent dressing room.

In front of the bath, was a TV embedded in the wall. I'm not a huge TV fan, but the luxury of watching TV in the bath, with a glass of bubbly next to me was fabulous. So far removed from my daily life it was surreal.

I rented a very small bungalow once and could see the TV in the lounge from the bath if I had both doors open 🤣.

WickWood · 17/03/2025 08:57

I would love this! But then I spend an hour plus in the bath (refilling when the water cools down) I absolutely love a long, relaxing bath!

YourBestFriend · 17/03/2025 09:49

I am with you, OP. It screams chavvy and tacky. It takes a special kind of gaudiness to think that's a good idea

But that wasn’t what OP started the thread about, was it?

She was moaning about how this child was always bragging, not how a television in the bathroom is ‘tacky’ and ‘chavvy’. (Although we all know that’s what she was getting at).

If you read again OP's first message, you can see how they express in really clear terms how she finds it pointless and ridiculous. To which I wholeheartedly agree with.

Hillsaremyhappyplace · 17/03/2025 13:16

This thread is so funny. 🤣 I feel a bit sorry for those who are genuinely getting worked up about this. Why?! My husband loves his baths whilst watching golf 🤣 Why would people begrudge someone this? It really has no impact on you whatever 🤷‍♀️
