Classmate with TV in bathroom

Gregoriouppy · 15/03/2025 10:11

My son goes to a state school and his classmate keeps going on about having a TV in his bathroom. Aibu to think this is the most pointless and ridiculous thing ever!?
No amount of money would make me even consider having that!

my son said he keeps bragging about it so I said he should tell him to take a book to the bog instead!!! 🤣

Humble and nasty. Yep great combo. Keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻

@DingDingRound3 don’t you think it was unnecessary and unfair comment about OP’s child however you disagree with OP.

Coolasfeck · 15/03/2025 13:08

I think it’s pretty shitty that someone has hosted your son at their home, and you’ve come to slag off their house on the internet.

I think only one of the parents in this story is tacky and classless and it’s not the tv parent.

REDB99 · 15/03/2025 10:47

I think it’s tacky, like having a TV in the bedroom. Do something else! If every room in your house revolves around the TV I’m assuming you’re pretty limited in your hobbies / interests. There’s one TV in my house, in the living room where it belongs. I also agree that with modern technology why do you need a TV in the bathroom, just take a device in to watch something in the bathroom if you want.

But why is it ok to watch something on a device in the bath but not have a telly in there? When I'm in the bath I don't want to be disturbed by messages etc!

Would you agree that the way we parent, the way we display our 'norms' is how we influence and shape our children.? I am pointing out that being judgemental and rude about others and making that your norm, will produce a child, very likely, the same. OP thinks she's making her DC 'honest', I was offering my 'honest' perspective on this and I disagree.

It's not what I'd want for my kids, but as we can see here, different folks, different strokes.

Itisjustmyopinion · 15/03/2025 13:18

But sneering and being judgemental is fine according to you.

I bet you are one of those “I just tell it as it is” people

In your words whatever floats your boat but bragging is not as bad as being nasty about other people’s choices that have nothing to do with you

You’re assuming that it’s true…
My son came home saying that someone at school had 3 PS5s (hard to get hold of at the time ). I replied didn’t you tell him that we have 20 PS5s and 30 Xboxes which made him realise that some people talk 💩 and playing along or rolling eyes is the way forward.
I think most people who watch tv in the bath use a tablet or phone

Lots of people have TV in the bathroom. Not sure why you'd think it wasn't true?

Gregoriouppy · 15/03/2025 13:24

I tell my kids not to brag, I was taught not to brag. This kid all he seems to do is brag.
im just stating how I think a tv in the bath is kitsch and unnecessary as others have too.

I won’t mention the other staff he brags about as I’ll be crucified on here!!!

I assume from responses like this that those who make them are pretty limited in their thinking. Having a TV in every room doesn't mean that they are all on at all times, or that anyone using that room is watching one. It just offers more options for where individuals can watch if they are not doing 'something else'.

In a house with X people there could be TVs in Y number of rooms, but a maximum of X could be being watched at any given time.

ProfessionalPirate · 15/03/2025 13:55

I don’t understand why you care. It’s not something I’d install, I love baths but I keep them fairly short so it wouldn’t be worthwhile for me. I’m aware some people like to spend ages in baths/hot tubs - each to their own I say. I do have in-wall speakers in my bathroom so I can listen to music while I get ready, I suppose some people think that’s pretty dumb too. Conversely, I won’t have TVs in bedrooms at all in my house, but I know many others are fine with that. Horses for courses.

But why mention the tv in bathroom thing then? The kid is obviously just a bragger. It’s a common personality / age thing. A few of my DC’s friends have a tendency to brag. Yes it’s annoying, hopefully they will grow out of it. It won’t win them any popularity in the long run. Not worth getting worked up about though in my opinion, just make sure that your own DC stay grounded.

Because it’s a strange thing to have and why brag about it!? It’s more about the bragging tbh

oh come on, were you never a child, of course you'd shout about having a tv in the bathroom, it would be thrilling. If he is generally an obnoxious child then fair enough but he's probably excited.

oh the irony!

@FrangipaniBlue im not bragging 🙄

I used to rig up a tv in my bathroom- to watch while I was having a bath (I was about 12) it was a small black and white tv, I loved it!

Swanfeet · 16/03/2025 22:17

OP what has it got to do with you? Why does it matter to you? I can’t believe it bothered you so much you had to write about it on here. The more of your comments I read the more judgmental, self righteous and ridiculous you sound. I’d say the green eyed monster got the better of you, you just don’t want to admit it so would rather ridicule a child and their family instead.

Tagyoureit · 16/03/2025 22:19

Germy remote control!!

I suppose it’s bc they can but I don’t like to hang out in the bathroom longer than needed.

Flamingosrule · 16/03/2025 22:30

We put a tv in our bathroom .. and as someone has already mentioned, it’s actually not expensive! one of the best things we’ve done! He wants to watch rugby .. I’ll go and have a soak for an hour and watch trash tv with a glass of wine! Absolute bloody bliss! 🥰
the jacuzzi bath however - wish we hadn’t done that .. never gets used!
