Classmate with TV in bathroom

Gregoriouppy · 15/03/2025 10:11

My son goes to a state school and his classmate keeps going on about having a TV in his bathroom. Aibu to think this is the most pointless and ridiculous thing ever!?
No amount of money would make me even consider having that!

my son said he keeps bragging about it so I said he should tell him to take a book to the bog instead!!! 🤣

It’s not that expensive to have a tv fitted into the wall at the foot of the bath…I got one put in when we last did our bathroom. I think it was about £600, and when it is off it just looks like a mirror.

i can’t use it personally because I need glasses which steam up if I had them on in the bath, but my husband likes to catch up on shows he watches without me.

On the flip side, we don’t have a TV in the bedroom…and I find having one there to be odd (but understand why others do it)

Wackadaywideawake · 15/03/2025 11:44

On my wedding night we stayed in a hotel that had two freestanding baths next to each other, and a TV.

My husband put on bloody Match of the Day.

Wish now I hadn’t given him that BJ.

TortolaParadise · 15/03/2025 11:46

When house hunting I viewed a couple of houses with a 'bathroom TV'. Perhaps it was already there.

And come in no one likes the kid who constantly brags!!! In my sons class everyone has the same gripes about him!

Imagine being adults and bitching because an 11 year old brags 🫣

rwalker · 15/03/2025 11:48

Bathroom tv’s are a few hundred £ now just slightly more than a good bathroom cabinet there no longer a lavish expensive luxury

TinyGingerCat · 15/03/2025 11:52

Have you ever heard 10 year olds talk OP - they all brag all the time (your child included). It's harmless and just what they do. I can't fathom why you are upset by a small child boasting. If it was a work colleague then yes that would be weird. We have a bath rack that the ipad fits in (and a g&t) so I can pretend I'm far too classy to have a tv embedded in the wall but still get to watch MAFS Australia whilst having a soak.

VerySkilledFirefighter · 15/03/2025 11:59

Not a brag as I don't think I've ever actually told anyone else before, but we put a TV into our ensuite so we can watch films in the bath. It wasn't that expensive (£500 maybe), and we do also have built in speakers in the bathroom to bluetooth radio/music/podcasts while we're in the shower...

My house is very tastefully decorated, thanks - it just has a TV in the bathroom... like you probably have a TV in the living room or kitchen... We don't have a TV in the bedroom though.

Exactly like mine. If you are spending a lot of money upgrading a bathroom, it makes sense to put in a little extra to make go from nice and functional, to being a room you enjoy relaxing in, bathrooms aren’t just for pooping.

Also a quick shower on a morning, or hot shower with a bit of mood lighting and music on the evening can be the difference between it energising you vs relaxing you for bed so 💯 on board with getting the Bluetooth speakers in, I love them

Lilofthevalley · 15/03/2025 12:30

I don't believe in good taste, just different taste.

Bitching and sneering about other people's tastes is not something to be proud of though.

HanSB · 15/03/2025 12:31

Our first flat was a batchelor pad beforehand as the guy had a small tv mounted above back of the toilet - I guess so he could watch it for the couple mins that he did a wee!

Goatinthegarden · 15/03/2025 12:34

I couldn’t get excited about a tv in the bathroom, nor could I get upset about an 11 year old bragging about one. I’m sure his classmates will set him straight if he’s being annoying and he’ll learn to zip it, as most children do eventually.

Gregoriouppy · 15/03/2025 12:42

whatever floats your boat

He seems spoilt and entitled and it’s not the only thing he’s bragged about! @pizzaHeart

So what ? He is 11.
My cousin is always bragging about this and that and she is 72 y.o.

biscuitsandbooks · 15/03/2025 12:44

I've stayed in hotels with TV's above the bath - it's lovely!

Nice hot bubble/jaccuzi bath, glass of wine and a good TV show. Bliss Grin

DingDingRound3 · 15/03/2025 12:46

Gregoriouppy · 15/03/2025 10:50

Not something I would brag about!

No sneering seems more your thing

GreyCarpet · 15/03/2025 12:47

Wouldn't be for me because I only have one TV in the house and don't often watch that. But I can't see the problem if other people do and there are many other equally unnecessary things people enjoy.

People like different things...

I can see why children would be impressed though! 😁

Yes definitely!

Such a better way to live your life.

I’m sure your child will be a delight too. 😍

caramac04 · 15/03/2025 12:49

Well it’s not that different to reading in the bath. I’d have a tv for that purpose and we are refurbishing the bathroom so…… DH says no 😂

Yes but at least they’ll be humble

I would love it! Sadly we have a shower and no room for a bathtub.

Humble and nasty. Yep great combo. Keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻

AgricolaOrBed · 15/03/2025 12:50

God, it sounds like bliss. So while DH and kids are watching football this afternoon, I could be relaxing in the bath with a cup of tea watching ER.

I suppose people can do that with an iPad but can’t really see the difference - the experience is the same. Can definitely see the appeal.

PS OP you don’t need to wheel out your “whatever floats your boat” response on my account. I think your position is clear - other people like tacky things and you are a superior parent who likes bitching about your kids’ friends. Gotcha.
