Mark Carney taking on Trump

RedHot2025 · 10/03/2025 16:03

Fighting talk from Mark Carney today. He will win the trade war with America. Blames Trump entirely for this trade war.

He will apply from today 25% surcharge on energy to the 3 US states they supply. Means around 100 dollars per month per family in those states.

Trump is a buffoon as well as a bully and people will not tolerate his actions.

Does Trump have dementia?

Or is he thick as shite?

YABU he's just thick

YANBU he has dementia

Sadly I think neither is true. I think his explicit purpose is to sow confusion and create chaos, so that he can never be pinned down as responsible for the bad things that will happen down the line. His ultimate aim is power and wealth - his own. It won't be long before he is angling for a third term, perhaps on the basis that the constitution needs to be amended to allow for an 'emergency', which he will of course have created himself by his divisive chaotic rule.

Mrsbloggz · 10/03/2025 18:16

Imo Trump is lacking in intellect and has some age related cognitive decline.
I feel very encouraged by Mark Carney's speach!

Unelected WEF globalist vows to take on democratically elected President.

Tells you all you need to know.

https://www.weforum.org/stories/authors/mark-carney/

He's not unelected, he's just been elected as per Canada's rules for electing prime ministers.

And you sound like you think it's somehow unfair or out of order for Canada to respond to Trump, simply because Trump was elected? Canada didn't elect him, they don't just have to shrug and say "well he was elected. There's literally nothing we can do". Shall Denmark do that when Trump demands Greenland "well he was democratically elected, so better not take him on".

No, it's not the total bill - the 25% levy will cost an additional $100 per household.

100 Canadian so about $70 USD

I assume she lies back and thinks of the bank balance. And the hurried visas her parents got. And the portable property she's presumably squirrelling away as fast as she can.

No way, she despises him, she wont be agreeing to have sex with that rancid old goblin.

Yes he's thick as shite. Just look at the things he says, doesn't sound statesman like at all, or even like an educated normal person. He was never a 'successful business man' as they tried to spin it ihn 'The Apprentice', he took the company his father had built and managed to get it into trouble many times apparently.

At 79,yes he could well be starting to get dementia. He seems almost unhinged and to have deteriorated over the years.

He's also just a vile man, and a liar. Evil really, but sadly he has managed to hoodwink a lot of the dumber Americans. But with his lack of intelligence I do wonder if he is just a puppet for more sinister forces behind the scenes.

I feel so sorry for all the decent Americans of which there are many, who never wanted this.

My husband works for some thoroughly decent Americans, lovely people, I feel so sorry for them having this loony throwing his weight around.

How many countries would vote for a convicted rapist as their leader for one of the most powerful countries in the world. He is as thick as shite, his vocabulary is limited, and appears to be mentally unstable, perhaps insane or dementia, definitely a narcissist. He’s a vile bully, I did chuckle watching Jimmy Kimmel saying Trump wears a diaper, hilarious 😆

He was elected only by so called "Liberal" party membership, he has never won the popular vote from the public and he's not even an MP.

It's just another WEF power play, he's merely replacing the previous WEF'er

A few of the people your DH works for are likely to have voted for Trump unless they were Black or Jewish, which are the only two groups who voted against him in any big way.

GasPanic · 10/03/2025 18:32

Mielikki · 10/03/2025 18:01

@GasPanic the EU and Canada already have a free trade agreement (CETA) in place and the French agriculture sector remains un-devastated. The main agricultural import from Canada is grain. The EU sends wine and cheese back. Everyone is happy.

Sure.

Last article I saw on EU agriculture was Eu farmers in Brussels burning tyres and bringing the entire city to a standstill making tractor barricades because they weren't happy.

Bring a large new more efficient agricultural nation into the mix and it's going to get so much better for them.

Isn't the Trump administration now clamping down on protest? While also protecting freedom of expression? So confusing.

Novotelchok · 10/03/2025 18:42

Carney probably won't be in power in Canada for long anyway looking at the polls - which means he doesn't need to worry about the medium term impact of what he's doing. Things go well for Canada - he can take credit. Things go badly - he can blame the incoming government.

CulturalNomad · 10/03/2025 18:44

For perspective, and a reminder (as if we needed it!) that consumers are always the losers when it comes to tariffs and trade wars:

https://www.nationalobserver.com/2024/12/18/analysis/energy-us-ontario-Trump-Trudeau-tarriffs-electricity

From the above article:

"For Ford to even suggest that Canada might disrupt cross-border energy supplies was foolhardy. But it says something about how some of us may have a totally unrealistic view of how much leverage we have in this situation. Yes, Canada is energy rich. But Ontario has become very dependent on U.S. supply, even using U.S. territory to access Canadian supplies. How we allowed ourselves to become so dependent on a foreign country is a whole other topic."

Here's to hoping that cooler heads prevail and that the willy-waving gives way to negotiations that benefit consumers.

GreenUp · 10/03/2025 18:45

lola006 · 10/03/2025 16:18

I think it’s Doug Ford putting the levy on electricity since he’s the ON premier.

As a Canadian (living in the U.K.) I repeat myself often with this point but it should be noted that the boycotts everyone is seeing from Canadians has more to do with Trump threatening a sovereign country with annexation than it does the tariffs.

What products from Canada are you able to buy living here? I was trying to support the BuyCanadian movement but so far have only got maple syrup and McCain's chips. There's strong flour and whiskey but I don't use either of those.

Harrasing Jewish students, blocking them from campus for refusing to renounce their faith and openly supporting Hamas isn't really a "protest" now is it.

BIossomtoes · 10/03/2025 18:47

Polls can change. I imagine Carney will have a positive impact on the Liberals’ support.

SinnerBoy · 10/03/2025 18:53

People moaning about the WEF re usually using it as code for "The Jews."

Mirabai · 10/03/2025 18:54

So either the plucky leader standing up to the nasty bully, or the cynical politician rolling the dice with peoples livelyhoods in the hope of harnessing a goundswell in support in order to get re elected ?

You decide the narrative...

RoastDinnerSmellsNice · 10/03/2025 19:07

According to his nephew, he's showing all the same signs that his Grandfather (Trump's Father) had, and he suffered from dementia, so I think it's highly likely he has it.

AND

He's thick!

The very idea of having a lie down with Mr Trump!

I've just had a lie down and feel.much better (and it wasn't with Trump, promise).

I was shocked to hear that an American friend voted for Trump, but he explained that he lives in one of the states on the border, and voted for him as he said he would put a stop to all the immigrants, which were a REAL problem, apparently he's done this, so at this point my friend is happy, BUT he also doesn't agree with Trump on Ukraine.

edwinbear · 10/03/2025 19:16

Carney was a poor BoE Governor. All his ‘forward guidance’ nonsense caused so much confusion - remember the ‘unreliable boyfriend’ headlines? I was quite pleased when he went back to Canada.
