Mark Carney taking on Trump

RedHot2025 · 10/03/2025 16:03

Fighting talk from Mark Carney today. He will win the trade war with America. Blames Trump entirely for this trade war.

He will apply from today 25% surcharge on energy to the 3 US states they supply. Means around 100 dollars per month per family in those states.

Trump is a buffoon as well as a bully and people will not tolerate his actions.

Does Trump have dementia?

Or is he thick as shite?

YABU he's just thick

YANBU he has dementia

@CJsGoldfish The statement from the DHS on his arrest specifically alleged that Khalil “led activities, aligned to Hamas, a dedicated Terrorist Organization”.

The law surrounding circumstances under which a Green Card can be revoked is very clear and legally GC holders are “aliens”, not citizens. There has been no change in this since Trump came to power.

As you say yourself, the revoking of funding to colleges is related solely to those that allow “illegal” protests. There has been no change in law as to what is legal or illegal as far as protests are concerned under Trump.

I loathe to leave a mistruth, or case of someone not understanding the actual issue. standing. I absolutely see this issue as a glaring example of what other leaders are up against. Mango Mussolini is not rational. He is not abiding by constitutional law and the ONLY external leaders he cares about are his very own triple axis. I'm not sure what CITME is but I don't think I've posted on a Gaza thread. 🤷‍♀️

As far as the above: "Confirming Khalil’s arrest, Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security later described it as being “in support of President Trump’s executive orders prohibiting anti-Semitism.”
You know they're just making shit up because there is not a scrap of evidence of any ties to Hamas. The paperwork was pretty shoddy and contradictory as well. This is the test case to get rid of anyone disagrees with the dictatorship. Threatening politic speech (because you KNOW any public dissent will be 'illegal') and controlling the media is just to silence the voices who disagree with the nuts running the show

Yes, the law is very clear on revoking a green card which makes this even clearer. I can't believe that irony of using a law that is rarely used and was designed to keep Eastern European Jews out of the US seems to have been overlooked. The law also codified rules allowing ideology to be used to deny immigration and allow deportation. Many parts have been deemed unconstitutional, the 'detention camps' being one. Doesn't stop Mango Mussolini though 🙄

Kinda sounds like you agree that student protests should see Colleges lose any funding? MM has used this to punish those colleges to toe the line and do his work for him. Peaceful protest on the student lawn now risks funding being removed. Free speech days are over, what can be publically uttered is now controlled. There is no need to change any laws because the orange one doesn't abide by them. He can define 'illegal', and has, any way he sees fit 🤷‍♀️

Aside from his fellow dictators, the orange fuckwit does not respect any leaders, so it is imperative that other country leaders find their backbones and actually do something to mitigate the damage

GildedRage · 16/03/2025 00:42

@CJsGoldfish this thread is discussing Mark Carney the new Canadian PM and the Canadian trade war issues with Trump.
Your inclusion of free speech and the affair of the students is better suited on the "conflict in the middle east" thread.

DuncinToffee · 17/03/2025 09:40

Carney has a busy day

Meeting Macron in Paris, Starmer in London and then a sit-down with King Charles, Canada’s Head of State.

i love his calm (reassuring to me) approach.
i listened to vassy kapelos interview the new finance minister domenic leblanc and he too was very convincing about building up canadian industries and developing more infrastructure which will help our long term resilience and lessen our dependence on any one trade partner.

Can someone explain the WEF thing to me like I’m an idiot? The weird friend on my FB is accusing him of being something to do with it. What’s all that?

GildedRage · 18/03/2025 00:45

I get the impression it's the white wealthy privileged aspect. the work of the WEF appears very theoretical but now more relevant than ever.
I've listened as several economist discuss Trump's plan to reset global trade price and issues with wage inflation.

It's think tank that is the subject of a huge amount of conspiracy theory - it tends to be a feature in the circle on the Venn diagram where the anti-vaxx, anti-15 minute city contingents on the far left and far right overlap.

People hold placards protesting the United Nations and the "great reset" at a rally of conspiracy theorists and supporters of US President Donald Trump on January 14, 2021 in Wellington, New Zealand

What is the Great Reset - and how did it get hijacked by conspiracy theories?

A global Covid recovery plan by the World Economic Forum has inspired false rumours about the creation of a tyrannical world government.

@user9876543211 the problem with the great reset concept and it being ridiculous, is it appears that the usa is actively pursuing a reset of both wage and trade, so imho it might be handy that mc is fully aware of the process and the implications.

HangryLilacGoose · 18/03/2025 02:17

Yeah, the WEF conspiracy theories are pretty nutty. I understand why conspiracy theories abound in respect of the Bilderberg Group, since they are very secretive, but the WEF are very transparent in publishing their meeting agendas and minutes and have been known to livestream.

Past attendees have included Trudeau and Harper from Canada. Blair, Brown, Boris Johnson, May and King Charles from the UK. Trump has attended twice. It clearly is not a meeting and policy-setting shadow-government of like-minded people, as some seem to think.

Conspire: “to act in harmony toward a common end” *

A bunch of rich old men people getting together to decide how to better organise the world for their benefit business and the environment etc meets that definition. Whatever you may feel about the actual group and its activities

It’s not a think tank. It’s an international organisation that invites rich and powerful people to become members and meet each other away from thr public eye.

What do Trump's "resets" have to do with the Great Reset? Is it just that one has the word "reset" in the title, and you've chosen to use the same word to describe Trump's policy aims?

I think I might struggle to set up an election then, since votes required.

I could be a dictator, but promise to be a nice one. Have there been any nice dictators?

I’m sure fidel Castro thought he was doing things for the right reasons and there’s certainly an argument that on some levels he was good for Cuba. Quality of life for many rocketed and i believe Cuba still has one of the highest life expectancies.

Back to the origins question. I think Trump is a nasty bully who sees the USA as his personal company and he will run it as he sees fit with total disregard for laws and rules. He actually had a slip of the tongue the other week when he said company instead of country when talking about the USA. I do think he’s in it for himself and is out to make him and his mates as much money as possible. He’s angry about how he was treated after leaving office last time and is holding a grudge against the establishment who he believes unfairly persecuted him with the court cases, etc.

What's an illegal protest? Trump has threatened deportation and loss of federal funding for 'illegal protests' - what defines an illegal protest?

Trump has said that this is the first of many and we all know how Trump feels about protesters. According to Mark Esper, Trump suggested shooting protesters in Lafayette Park during his first tenure.

I think with the college campus protests they’re illegal in Trumps eyes as they’re on private land. Colleges aren’t obliged to uphold the constitutional rights of free speech on private land. So Trump thinks they could do more to stop it. Hence why he’s stopped the hundreds of millions of dollars of grants to Columbia University. He’s fucked off with them and punishing them. And ultimately flexing his muscles as he holds the purse strings. The message to all USA universities is very clear. Do what you’re told or the money is cut off.

Annajones101 · 18/03/2025 06:39

OP, when you have come to terms with your Trump derangement syndrome, you may want to consider some facts.

US economy $25 Trillion
Canadian economy $2Trillion

Mark Carney was a shit at running the central bank in this country. He’ll be equally shit a fighting the ‘trade war’.

Honestly, the lack of basic knowledge of economic affairs on this forum is staggering sometimes.

While trade wars are not helpful, if there is one country that can afford to fight them it’s the US. They have two of the most important homegrown sectors - agriculture and energy. Europe and Canada, on the other hand, will get pasted. It’s laughable when people who hate Trump show their ignorance of basic facts.

TDS - the delusion that there's anything good, or worthy about Trump, that he's not a felon, he only wants what's best for America.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/03/2025 09:17

The Columbia protests involved property damage and vandalism, also illegal

So did the 6 January Capitol protestgs, @AzurePanda, and they were rightly condemned

However as we're seeing, condemnation is too often reserved only for issues which someone personally opposes, with mental gymnastics brought into play to excuse whatever they support

That's not correct. Protesting is protected under the First Amendment which prohibits the government from, "abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble.”

Certain things are illegal while protesting such as violence, but no one, including the President is above the Constitution.

Trump has also written to universities prohibiting them from teaching DEI, he hasn't explained what that involves. My guess is anything Trump doesn't like. He's holding universities to ransom.

No I get that. But Trumps argument (whether he’s legally right or not I don’t know) is that if people pitched up and hold a protest in your back garden you can call the police and have them removed. If they then decamp to the street outside your house you can’t do anything as the constitution protects them.

so Trump is saying Columbia could have done more to remove them and he’s pissed off they didn’t so is having a tantrum.
