Mark Carney taking on Trump

RedHot2025 · 10/03/2025 16:03

Fighting talk from Mark Carney today. He will win the trade war with America. Blames Trump entirely for this trade war.

He will apply from today 25% surcharge on energy to the 3 US states they supply. Means around 100 dollars per month per family in those states.

Trump is a buffoon as well as a bully and people will not tolerate his actions.

Does Trump have dementia?

Or is he thick as shite?

YABU he's just thick

YANBU he has dementia

No I get that. But Trumps argument (whether he’s legally right or not I don’t know) is that if people pitched up and hold a protest in your back garden you can call the police and have them removed. If they then decamp to the street outside your house you can’t do anything as the constitution protects them.

so Trump is saying Columbia could have done more to remove them and he’s pissed off they didn’t so is having a tantrum.

Trump hasn't said that; he hasn't clarified what constitutes illegal protests.

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression said, "...the president does not have unilateral authority to revoke federal funds, even for colleges that allow 'illegal' protests,"

In January, Trump signed an executive order that called for the removal of foreign students who participated in protests. However he's continuing on from Biden who arrested thousands of protesters in 2024.

I could be a dictator, but promise to be a nice one. Have there been any nice dictators?

Dictators tend to be populist, because they have to be, lacking a mandate. You could argue that many have been 'nicer' than what went before. Even the Perons were very populist.

Trump may not have clarified why he’s saying the Columbia protest was illegal but he stated it was an illegal protest. Of course he may be wrong. There’s been a lot of discussion online from legal experts as to why he may think it’s illegal and it seems to come down to the public vs private land and that a landowner can lawfully stop a protest. Now whether a lack of stopping it makes it illegal is another story. Did Columbia tell the students to go away? In which case there’s an argument that not complying with a lawful order makes further actions illegal. Trump seems to think Columbia didn’t do enough. Other universities in the past have sent the police in and students have been arrested, which does back up the illegality of protesting on private land after being told to leave. Hell, decades ago USA students were shot dead on campus for protesting!

  • Your rights are strongest in what are known as “traditional public forums,” such as streets, sidewalks, and parks. You also likely have the right to speak out on other public property, like plazas in front of government buildings, as long as you are not blocking access to the government building or interfering with other purposes the property was designed for.
  • Private property owners can set rules for speech on their property. The government may not restrict your speech if it is taking place on your own property or with the consent of the property owner.

@ElbowsUpRising The reason given has been antisemitism and pro terrorism. Trump cannot override the constitution nor can he unilaterally stop federal funding. He says they are 'anti American', which is ironic.

The students who are being deported are accused of being pro Hamas, despite no evidence.

I totally agree. It's a disgrace. Protesting is fine if you're a Proud Boy storming Capitol Hill or a Maga fan protesting about abortion clinics.

Protesting about thousands of people being killed in Gaza does not equal being pro Hamas.

The sad thing is that Trump will go after any judges who try and block deportations or otherwise stand up to him. He's already trying to go after the judge who tried to stop the Venezuelan flights. How long before the judges stop standing up to him as they're bullied away from doing the right thing?

His ranting against the judge is off the scale. I believe they're releasing pictures and names of judges in order to bully and threaten them.

After basically arranging an ice hockey match with Putin, Trump comes out with this nonsense about Canada

https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3lkousok4j62n

Trump: "Canada doesn't pay for military. They give us nothing. And they are the worst people to negotiate with of everybody ... they cheat."

He just appears to have a series of events. A word he likes using in his rants is 'nasty'. He's very odd.

I find it impossible to make any comment about Bigly without resorting to playground language together with sticking my tongue out at him. That's the level he operates at, like The Sun newspaper being written to a reading level of around 10 years old. It's quite difficult to combat and is a massive part of his popular appeal. So I'm just saying I loathe and detest everything he and his supporters represent and good luck to Canada. Resist.

@RedHot2025 I’m liking MC firm professional approach to questions on DJT. I’m actually liking most of his messsging at this point. I couldn’t care less about his personal finances (I remember it was a big news story for Paul Martin and JT as well).
What I do care about; follow through on proposed infrastructure and the pipeline/refineries.
PS I really dislike Rosie Barton and I’m glad he set her straight in London.

GildedRage · 19/03/2025 21:20

i'm really confused regarding the liberal party, who have for the last 8 years dragged their feet on any plans and projects, tied everything up in red tape and consultations not to mention legal challenges.
some of the miltary concepts they are announcing have been in the wings for a while (the shipbuilding in nova scotia and the nwt radar) there is also a sub purchase to be announced at any time.
I'm hoping to hear if indeed they are willing to modify their green agenda for and increase in the pipeline and the new build of refineries.
MC is saying the right stuff but will he deliver? after all it's very far off MC usual environmental stance (wef) and that of the liberal party.
I do however like his firm but polite stance.

Serpentstooth · 19/03/2025 21:48

Don't be confused. Times have changed. Priorities must change with them.

That and the childish talk.
I think if he starts swearing, it'll be a further red flag. However, I'd rather he's not discounted as ill. He is too dangerous for that and needs to be held accountable. Him and his entourage.

Canada's new Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to call a snap election for April 28, triggering an intense campaign dominated by President Donald Trump's trade war and demands to turn the close US ally into a 51st state ➡️ https://u.afp.com/SwYJ

What’s to stop Trump overriding the constitution or unilaterally stopping federal funding?

if he chooses to ignore court orders, who exactly is going to stop him? It’s hardly as if the US Marshals are going to arrest him for contempt. Congress are equally powerless - they can withhold funding on paper but in reality if Trump orders the Treasury to release funds there’s nothing that Congress can do about it.

Ultimately, if he does ignore court orders, which he will, the only thing to stop him would be the elected officials in his own party standing up to him. So far they seem disinclined to do so.

No one is above the Constitution and it's very difficult to change. Trump has written a flurry of executive orders and federal trial courts have issued temporary restraining orders requiring the government to stop until the EO have been litigated.

My point was he's breaking the law, not that he's not an autocrat simply doing what he wants.

What's fascinating and horrifying in equal measure is his gaslighting.

Serpentstooth · 23/03/2025 11:37

It's interesting in a horrible way. When push comes to shove, what will the US military do? Defend their sacred cqonstitution or defend Mr Tangerine Man ' cos democracy'. A coup is a coup, not complete yet. If someone's running up a goldy looking uniform for Bigly and printing letterheads in GeneralqqQ-

Serpentstooth · 23/03/2025 11:41

Bugger. Posted accidentally. Anyway, it's there now. On reflection, General Bigly wouldn't be sufficient. Emperor Bigly the Best might do it

Unfortunately, he's packed the SC with his placemen, which came up trumps for him, with their corrupt ruling that he's immune, whilst sitting. It's as if Nixon and Watergate never happened.

Interesting. Wonder what he calls him in private.
