Mark Carney taking on Trump

RedHot2025 · 10/03/2025 16:03

Fighting talk from Mark Carney today. He will win the trade war with America. Blames Trump entirely for this trade war.

He will apply from today 25% surcharge on energy to the 3 US states they supply. Means around 100 dollars per month per family in those states.

Trump is a buffoon as well as a bully and people will not tolerate his actions.

Does Trump have dementia?

Or is he thick as shite?

YABU he's just thick

YANBU he has dementia

Easing not wading!!!

BIossomtoes · 10/03/2025 20:58

How did you vote, just out of curiosity?

Are you serious? You did notice it was Clavinova?

Clavinova · 10/03/2025 21:11

CJsGoldfish
He pulled all of Columbia's funding because of the student protests and 'disappeared' the lawful American citizen who was in charge. Dude has a green card

Green card holders are not American citizens - Rishi Sunak held a green card. The man was also facing sanctions from the university I believe.

To be fair I only became a committed Brexiteer in 2018. I was rather ambivalent in 2016 and almost voted remain because of the doom-mongering warnings from people like Mark Carney and George Osborne.

It was quantative wading and dropping interest rates btw

Quantitative easing? Although your answer should be directed to a different poster.

Turns out their “doom mongering” was prophetic.

Sure.

Last article I saw on EU agriculture was Eu farmers in Brussels burning tyres and bringing the entire city to a standstill making tractor barricades because they weren't happy.

Bring a large new more efficient agricultural nation into the mix and it's going to get so much better for them.

What on earth are you on about? The FTA with Canada has been effective since 2017.

The protest you are referring to happened in May last year and you are grossly exaggerating its effects.

Prophetic or common sense?

What products from Canada are you able to buy living here? I was trying to support the BuyCanadian movement but so far have only got maple syrup and McCain's chips. There's strong flour and whiskey but I don't use either of those.

I’m struggling to find specific Canadian products, tbh, especially outside of maple syrup. The only lentils I can find showing their country of origin as Canada are at M&S. For my family the biggest “buy Canadian” thing we can do is send our youngest to Canada this summer to hang out with grandma!

Well last nights election coverage (in Canada) was really well done. I've never watched one before.
Both JT and MC's had a daughter deliver a section of their speeches and both did a great job.
I really enjoyed listening to Chretien's speech he was awesome at 92 years of age.
For me it will be a difficult election as I was sick of the previous Liberal situation with seemingly nothing happening on any front. Which had me thinking PC was the way to change and make things happen (increased development on all fronts) BUT in MC's speech (which seemed very wartime) he indicated building more and building fast. So last night might have swayed me as I do think Trump will make mincemeat of PP.
Personally I hope MC holds off on an election till the fall, allows Canada to see what his plans are. Because PP has really not given lots of details on how he plans to deliver his concepts or who will be holding key positions. I quite like Melanie J.

It's a risky move from Carney.

Yes he is standing up to Trump and being confrontational. But Trump has far more power in terms of economics and Canada are on their own.

To date most of the middle sized countries (UK, France, Germany, Italy etc) are appeasing Trump and trying to work with him rather than taking a confrontational position against him.

My guess is Carney will either end up as a hero or the idiot who ended up trashing his country in a battle he could not possibly win. We will see which.

Canada has tried to work with him but it's not possible really. It's easier to try and be middle of the road when you aren't as directly impacted. He calls our PM "governor" bc that's what he'll be if annexation happens.

The trade deal is only provisionally in force if it hasn't been ratified by 10 member states yet.

That’s five years old. Ancient history in Brexit terms.

JHound · 10/03/2025 22:04

Trump is to blame 100% for The Trade War and I am backing Canada.

Was talking to my Canadian friend the other day and she said the mood over there had been to take Trump’s threats over their sovereignity very seriously. And disappointment at the silence of other nations (especially the UK and “our” King given Canada is part of the Commonwealth).

Less than four years old - although we have had the war in Ukraine since.

Not sure about dementia, but I reckon Trump is a sociopathic narcissist.

Mark Carney seems reasonable, but I thought the same about Trudeau when he was elected... Hmm

JennyForeigner · 10/03/2025 22:19

I don't think it's dementia.

Syphilis, more likely.

DoubleDoubleDown · 10/03/2025 22:27

Meh! I'm not a fan of Carney. I think he's a bit of a wet lettuce like Trudeau. I think Poilievre has a good chance when we finally get an election.

That’s the mainstream media for you. It usually takes people a while to wake up to the lies, of course some will never get there. wef “progressives” painted in the best light when in reality it’s the opposite.

When Biden didn’t know what day of the week it was I bet none of you cried dementia then or moaned about the influence of billionaires.

Biden had far fewer references to sharks in his speeches, though...

Think you misspelled 'lamestream' BTW

I thought, off the bat, that Trudeau was a bit of a lightweight. My opinion on that hasn't really changed but I think he's been fine overall. Giving him a lukewarm 5/10.

yeah well if you don’t know who your own VP is you’re probably not gonna manage to fit a few shark references in, the teleprompter can only do so much to fool the people.

If we're going to get into exchanging Biden and Trump's various verbal flubs, we might as well open a Thread #2 now.

Though I'll join in with the time that Trump called Argentina a "great guy".
