Mark Carney taking on Trump

RedHot2025 · 10/03/2025 16:03

Fighting talk from Mark Carney today. He will win the trade war with America. Blames Trump entirely for this trade war.

He will apply from today 25% surcharge on energy to the 3 US states they supply. Means around 100 dollars per month per family in those states.

Trump is a buffoon as well as a bully and people will not tolerate his actions.

Does Trump have dementia?

Or is he thick as shite?

YABU he's just thick

YANBU he has dementia

I’ve read about the posts in a number of places although press articles don’t tend to reproduce pictures of instagram posts, in any event the good news is that unlike the way protestors are treated in the majority Muslim countries he is going to have a hearing where evidence will be presented.

Oh, you read about the posts? 😂

I really think you need to look into the law that is being invoked to justify the cancellation of visas and revocation of PR rights. I'd love to know what you think about it

Gosh, having read that article, the "calls for violence" (and who knows what involvement Khalil had) were far less direct and far milder than the ones that led to people being charged and convicted in the UK after the Southport attack. And to think how many Americans, Musk and Vance included, were strongly expressing concerns about the UK's "attacks on free speech".

God the US sucks.

AzurePanda · 13/03/2025 15:35

@CJsGoldfish Quite obviously if he hadn’t objected to the deportation order then of course there wouldn’t have been a hearing. He has objected and now there is a legal process underway.

It’s hardly down to me or anyone else outside of the process to provide “evidence”. It’s up to the two parties involved, the State and Khalil.

HangryLilacGoose · 13/03/2025 15:40

Let's also not forget that the current President used his free speech rights to inspire an actual attack on the Capitol (before pardoning various of those who committed violence).

HangryLilacGoose · 13/03/2025 15:47

Calls for violence by Trump or those that are pro-Trump: acceptable.

Actual violence by people who are pro-Trump: acceptable.

Vague references to violence that the Trump government doesn't agree with: criminal.

Brought to you by the same government who are banning journalists and law firms they don't like.

All while smugly lecturing Europe on free speech

How much are the democrats paying you for this? 😂

That is absolutely pathetic. That's the best you can do?

It really is a very worrying descent towards fascism going on.

Honestly, for your own sanity… lighten up lol

The world is a cold place as it is without strangers being keyboard warriors to other strangers, especially on MumsNet!

Asking people to lighten up over goady "jokes" which are indiscernable from loony Trumper talking points is a bit rich. How about you don't start some bullshit with people you can't finish, then try to palm it off as a joke because you don't like criticism.
I like jokes. A funny one would be great. Have at it.

Maitri108 · 13/03/2025 17:49

Apparently Rubio has reasonable grounds to believe that your presence or activities in the United States would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States”

Then why hasn't he been charged and given the reasonable grounds?

What was that Vance? Basic liberties are in danger?

RedHot2025 · 13/03/2025 17:59

The conflict in middle east stuff takes over even threads about Canada and Trump tariffs. Its invasive. There's about 10,000 gaza threads and the stuff on there says exactly the same as this. I wonder should I start posting tariff comments on the citme, they'd go bananas

i know @RedHot2025 i'm eagerly looking forward to hearing HOW PP and MC plan on strengthening canada against the usa and support during times of stress.
i guess the fact that trump is scattering chaos everywhere, or so it seems to me, is part of the picture but not what i would prefer to focus on.

solidarity as lots of people and places are being caught in the full on scattering of disruption this president is causing.

AzurePanda · 13/03/2025 18:13

@Maitri108 he doesn’t need to be charged with anything. The government believes it has sufficient grounds to deport him under terms of his Green Card.

What grounds? What reasonable grounds? What evidence?

Rumours about IG posts don't count.

AzurePanda · 13/03/2025 18:42

As has already been explained, an objection has been lodged to the deportation order so now a hearing will take place.

As already explained, there's no evidence, grounds or charge. Democratic societies don't normally cheerlead erosion of rights.

To be fair, nobody is talking about the conflict itself, rather the US clamping down on free speech and other extreme actions by the Trump administration, which I think is of relevance to Trump's stated goal to annex Canada.

cheezncrackers · 13/03/2025 19:12

The Canadians have played a blinder by appointing the former Governor of the Bank of England as their PM, when the Americans have that demented old idiot Trump.

AzurePanda · 13/03/2025 19:13

@Maitri108 what erosion of rights? He has a battalion of lawyers and will have the opportunity to put his case and the state will have to put theirs.

He is not a US citizen, as he will have been aware under the terms of his Green Card he is treated as an “alien”. He is certainly benefiting from considerably better rights than protestors enjoy in the countries of his citizenship or for that matter most of the Middle East.

The right to free speech and to protest. Are you being deliberately obtuse?

Can we just stop saying this? Please. Just because your country is slightly better than Somalia, or Yemen, or Pakistan, or El Salvador doesn't make it good. And aiming to be just slightly less dreadful than places on the UN's shit list is nothing to aspire to.

Nationality is a matter of luck. And just because someone started less lucky than you doesn't mean every time they disagree, you say, 'well you had a shit life, have some more'. It's repulsive.

Basically, assume foreigners are fully human. It makes you a full human to think that too, which is a bonus.

AzurePanda · 13/03/2025 19:40

@MrsTerryPratchett I’m curious as to why are so many are so exercised about these rights in the USA and seemingly unconcerned about the complete absence of them in a large number of countries ? Ironic given the USA enjoys pretty much the strongest protection of free speech rights of any country.

And of course Khalil is accused of distributing pamphlets featuring Hamas iconography so in his case, free speech is irrelevant. Discriminatory harassment, targeted threats and incitement to violence are not covered by free speech protection. And the Columbia protests involved property damage and vandalism, also illegal.
