He didn’t go to Tesco?

I’ve been ill with the flu for the past few days and am in the worst of it, asked DH if he could pop to the shops and get some dinner in, and food for dc over the weekend, as we have nothing in and I thought he would stop at Tesco on his way home from work.

He decided to go to our village newsagents which sells no fresh food and spent 50 FUCKING QUID on crap. He got unbranded frozen ready meals which no one in our house would touch with a barge pole. The rest went on crisps / chocolate / ice cream / pot noodles. He didn’t even get bread (which they actually sell). Because i’ve not been happy about this he’s now gone in a mood and said he’s not bothering again. AIBU to be psised off he didn’t go to tesco and get real food the kids actually eat and not just chocolate and crisps. And now he’s moaning saying he didn’t know he wasn’t ‘allowed’ to go to the village shop and that i should have told him. I shouldn’t fucking have to tell people to use their brain.

@TENSsion

You don't have to be furious about it. He's still a lazy SOB.

What did his mum do?

WiddlinDiddlin · 07/03/2025 22:56

CalicoPusscat · 07/03/2025 22:06

@WiddlinDiddlin although I'm in a very small town not village I confess my corner shop stocks Cook ready meals 😆

Lucky, mine stocks fags, tobacco, energy drinks and tramp juice, and anything else is brands you've never heard of, stale, out of date or just revolting even if technically within date. It frequently has half the shelves bare and I swear is a front for something else.

But then I live on a council estate in a rural area! Noooooot jealous... noooo not at all.

LovingHare · 07/03/2025 22:58

holy trinity, i always prefer the supermarkets for value and the village newsagents in Lestershire were omg on prices etc i think it was only one that was ok and that was due to reduced prices

Yourethebeerthief · 07/03/2025 22:58

@TENSsion

You don’t seem know what the word “incapable” means.

Only because you have a different definition of food shop. One that is used to defend lazy men. Funny how his food shop and his wife's food shop would look so different. Why is that?

HoldYourHat · 07/03/2025 22:59

If I was unwell enough to be in bedridden and the kids and DH were out of the way and sorted for the night without hassling me, I would let this one go. Sounds like an awful illness OP. Hopefully no one else catches it. Hope you feel better soon.

localnotail · 07/03/2025 22:59

I mean, going down the road of eating crap - if he got a few pots of Pot Noodle or any other instant noodles, some frozen veg and maybe bread and milk - it would have been sort of ok? And nowhere near £50. The guy is a MORON.

Because he is a man who maliciously went out off his way to upset his kids and wife lmao

Because they’re different people.

It is possible for a couple to cut each other a bit of slack now and again, you know.

Not everything needs to be the basis of creating a war zone.

I’m more concerned by your vitriol towards women who wouldn’t be “furious” about this.

Why are you talking in such dramatic and exaggerated language? Like you telling me to "calm down" in your last post. Can you not just have a discussion? We've established some women like yourself will accept minimum standards from men, crack on. Some of us value ourselves more than that and we'll crack on.

Mumoftwinsandasingleton · 07/03/2025 23:02

Something similar happened to me whilst I was pregnant with my twins. I asked my husband to buy fish and chips with salt and vinegar. The fish and chips were so raw and awful. I moaned for a few seconds about them. Hubby got very angry and didn't talk to me properly the entire rest of the pregnancy!

Yes that's what posters are arguing. He's a Machiavellian genius who orchestrated a shitty food shop to upset his wife and kids.

Put the drink down hen.

You’re saying any women on here who would be anything less than nuclear about this deserves to have miserable relationships and lives.

I never told you to “calm down”. I told you to stop being rude to other women and trying to imply they were stupid.

Could you not do an online shop?

Why the fuck should she have to, when she's ill in bed? Shouldn't her h be competent to shop?

Wherehavetheyallgone · 07/03/2025 23:04

Are you sure they're not Cook! frozen ready meals? My village shop sells them and they're great. Would explain the high price too!

Alright calm down, who said he wasn’t looking after her all he done was pop to the corner shop 🤣🤣🤣

@TeaNtoast25 And yes you did say calm down😂😂😂

BellesAndGraces · 07/03/2025 23:06

ItGhoul · 07/03/2025 21:45

Why isn’t he worried about the kids eating shite?

Probably because he’s sufficiently rational to comprehend that eating ‘shite’ for a few days isn’t going to do them even a modicum of harm.

You would be ok with your kids eating crisps and chocolate for dinner simply because their mother is unwell when they have a perfectly healthy dad around?

Justhere65 · 07/03/2025 23:06

He bought some food … it’s only for a few days. Pick your battles.

Lentilweaver · 07/03/2025 23:07

Tomorrow, as it's Women's Day, I am going to do the laundry by chucking them in the washer and not switching it on.
It will be ok because
I tried
Nobody died
People can do without clean clothes for a weekend.
It's a first world problem.
