She is not coming across well.

I am astounded that after everything she’s done she’s got the balls to go on TV 😳😳 most people would be hiding in a corner having gone into hiding! Just shows what kind of person she is.

I think Rinder did an amazing job. He said what everyone was thinking and didn’t hold back.

She has a book to sell. She's had to self-publish as nobody would touch it, so she'll be taking every opportunity she can get to do TV/Radio.

Weepixie · 07/03/2025 09:21

Doesn’t she have another book out?

I'm not convinced he was a grifter. He just started doing a sponsored walk and it went crazy because blimey we all needed something to lift our spirits at that time. His family absolutely jumped on it so I'd blame them, the evidence is there that they exploited it but there's not much that he did apart from enjoying the fame and hell why not.

I don't think we'll ever know whether he was an innocent kindly old man who was duped and exploited, just as bad as them and in on it from the start, or anywhere in between.

He has another DD who hasn't gone on the grift and has fully retained her dignity, so it's not necessarily a clear case of 'apple doesn't fall far'.

Pfft, shes got absolutely zero fucking shame.

This.

Greedy, self serving and found a way to make money whilst people donating thought it was going to the NHS or charities rather than her families pocket.

Vile.

Newgirls · 07/03/2025 09:22

Thing is she doesn’t need to make a living. She prob inherited that massive house and could live somewhere nice quite happily I’m sure. But she wants to be rich. So here she is spinning things to her own ends.

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 07/03/2025 09:23

THREE books, though?! Makes Dan Brown look like Jane Austen!

Jessbow · 07/03/2025 09:23

presumably watch-able tommorow

Trainarmrestfairy · 07/03/2025 09:25

She’s not the only culprit. Her father was just as bad - he knew what she was doing and her long term plans. I’ve read in several pieces that she has a sister who wanted nothing to do with the whole affair (walking, books etc).

With the exception of that sister, the whole family were/are a bunch of crooks and we’re (those who did anyway) a nation of idiots who fell for it

ItShouldntHappenToMeYet · 07/03/2025 09:01

Lordy, I hadn't realised so many copies were sold!

Was Spare not the fastest or biggest selling autobiography ever? Record breaking

Good to see Judge Rinder giving her a roasting. It's a shameful state of affairs all round with them

An awful lot of charities and 'good causes' work on the basis of 'it's all for charity' when it comes to aggressive fundraising, but make some highly controversial choices when it comes to spending/directing the funds... but at least they know not to push it too far and not to kill the golden goose.

The house is on the market. Had to reduce the price last I heard.

Why do people tink he was ignoant of the con just because he was old?
Odious man

Yes. He was odious. His comments about his sex life with his first wife were beyond the pale and showed very clearly who and what he was.

NewMarmiteJar · 07/03/2025 09:29

This grifter is angling for reality TV. Shameless woman.

AreYouTheFarmer2025 · 07/03/2025 09:30

Because of this, decent charities are struggling now because she's put people off donating.
She's awful 😞

I had to turn over as it was uncomfortable viewing but also she is a total charlatan so glad she got the roasting. She has to live with tarnished reputation forever so that's her commence. I have to say I didn't get the whole captain Tom thing but that's a different story.

I agree - i thought the Captain Tom thing was ridiculous at the time as it felt very dodgy to me but then I figured I was just a hard hearted cow!

I still can't believe she went to Barbados with him in December 2020 (while most people were still in some form of lockdown) only for him to pass away from covid less than 6 weeks after returning. The whole thing was opportunistic and she deserves the backlash. I just don't know why she's still going.

Yes! Wasn’t it lucky that he’d always wanted to go Barbados and not Rhyl?

Disgusting, entitled cow of a woman with very skewed morals in my view.

Choconuts · 07/03/2025 09:38

I'm sure she believes that no publicity is bad publicity and as long as people are talking about her she won't care what they are saying!

Who will buy this book?

Too many people. She knows she will make money, so no doubt is willing to put herself out there, to promote it, even though she knows what the public perception of her character is. I honestly cannot think why anybody would be interested in her book, but hey ho.

Why should she? When she is just adding more money to her rather well stuffed nest.

BrownPapery · 07/03/2025 09:40

I think a lot of people projected a lot of feelings onto him- about our own elderly relatives in particular (at a time when we couldn’t see them) but also about our nostalgic view of the past. He was just a bloke, slightly dodgy (as lots of people are), happy to benefit from the grey area between what was being donated to the charity and what was going into his own metaphorical pocket. His daughter’s the same but you face a bit more scrutiny when you’re not 100 years old and benefiting from the whole country’s projected feelings about their own grandparents.

TorroFerney · 07/03/2025 09:41

ThedaBara · 07/03/2025 09:09

She has a three book deal, one about perseverance, one about being in the limelight and an autobiography. She was a business consultant before and nobody will work with her now, so this is how she's making a living.

I don’t think it’s a deal, she’s self publishing she said in another interview. Which shows a different level of no shame and ego.
