I am astounded that after everything she’s done she’s got the balls to go on TV 😳😳 most people would be hiding in a corner having gone into hiding! Just shows what kind of person she is.

I think Rinder did an amazing job. He said what everyone was thinking and didn’t hold back.

prelovedusername · 07/03/2025 09:04

I don’t feel the anger others do and I realise that makes me a lone voice. I don’t think she’s a criminal, I do think she was opportunist and made some very bad decisions that showed a disregard for the public who had contributed so generously to the Captain Tom Foundation.

I believe the situation blew up from innocent beginnings and they got greedy. And I can see the thinking. Without the family’s help and support, which was considerable and meant putting their own careers and lives on the back burner, the NHS wouldn’t have benefitted from the millions that were raised. At some point they convinced themselves they were entitled to claim some of that because they/she were instrumental in it being raised. That was where things went very wrong.

The problem was forgetting, or choosing to forget, that all this was happening under the auspices of a charity. The minute the Foundation was created the family lost the right to decide what was “owed” for their contribution. From then on some very poor and self serving decisions were made, including misleading the public into thinking proceeds from the book were mainly for charity, and using the Foundation to apply for planning permission for the pool/spa building.

It’s a shame that this is what people remember of the CTF and not how it lifted people’s spirits during a very difficult time, I also worry about the effect on their children of all this public hate.

TizerorFizz · 07/03/2025 09:04

The house was up for sale. Has it sold? The spa without pp was demolished. She's full of her own &"@! Could Sir Capt Tom really have wanted all this? The Charities Commission found against her and her DH. They mismanaged the charity and benefitted personally from it. Surely you would just disappear quietly?

She does have a brass neck not a bit of shame!

Throwing her late dad under the bus.😱

Did you see the side eye Rob gave Hannah when Kate thanked her for coming on. He hates her lol.

Poachedeggs1 · 07/03/2025 09:06

He was fantastic. I wish Kate had taken a back seat and let him do the full interview.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 07/03/2025 08:33

She is apparently writing her autobiography, so it is in her interests to stay in the public eye, no matter how awkward it might be. Good marketing.

The woman is all about the money.

Who's going to buy it is the question?

Why do people tink he was ignoant of the con just because he was old?
Odious man

I've had to turn off. Uncomfortable viewing!

I think she's had some surgery since the Captain Tom stuff - nose looks different and cheeks look smoother. It was obvious when they showed her alongside footage from 2020.

I don't think it is obvious. What is obvious is that things got out of hand. If Hannah did not want to show that she is innocent, she wouldn't be writing a book, appearing on day time television and allowing herself to be interviewed, she'd hide. She is out of her depth, however I don't believe the intention was ever to defraud and others were involved in all this. The charity commission and publisher have been far too glib for my liking, they have the experience and the right people to smooth things over.

However we will never really know. I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Hannah doesn't look to me at all as though she has had surgery. They are all well made up in the studio for the camera but I thought she looked tired and a bit thinner.

The likes of the Daily Mail are going to have a field day with this.

Agreed.
She accepted that it was misleading that the book introduction said that sales would go to charity and said this was a “mistake”.
How about just saying, out of respect for people who bought the book on that basis, we’ll give the money we made to the NHS….?
She could rehabilitate herself by doing that, but bottom line is she wants the money.

ThedaBara · 07/03/2025 09:09

She has a three book deal, one about perseverance, one about being in the limelight and an autobiography. She was a business consultant before and nobody will work with her now, so this is how she's making a living.

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 07/03/2025 09:10

I think her upper middle class respectable veneer is now well and truly gone, along with any remnants of good reputation.

I'd say her remaining options are either to knock the publicity-seeking on the head and disappear from public view completely or - if she's still desperate to cling on to infamy fame and whatever she can earn from it - to embrace the whole posh Katie Price vibe: where people are constantly compelled to see which way the cringefest binfire is burning this time.

Mightymoog · 07/03/2025 08:58

Poor man?

He was as big a grifter as the rest of his family.

I agree, he was shameless as well.

Peachy2005 · 07/03/2025 09:13

Surprised she hasn’t left the country, you would think it would be hard to hold your head up in public… but maybe some people just like any flavour of notoriety!

TheGoogleMum · 07/03/2025 09:14

I didn't see the interview, but I read the bbc article about her yesterday. She definitely seems like a grifter despite her protests!

I still can't believe she went to Barbados with him in December 2020 (while most people were still in some form of lockdown) only for him to pass away from covid less than 6 weeks after returning. The whole thing was opportunistic and she deserves the backlash. I just don't know why she's still going.

BrownPapery · 07/03/2025 09:16

The whole thing was a bit of a grift from the start and I include Captain Tom. The fact that the nation collectively lost its mind over some bloke walking up and down was just an effect of lockdown. From then on it was really just a freebie jamboree, including the free holiday that ended up killing him.

Now the collective delusion is that he was a saint and she’s a devil. But the truth is that both of them were on the make. Much easier to pin it all on her than accept we fell for it.

Sceptic1234 · 07/03/2025 09:16

A minor point - which I've raised before!

An army officer below the rank of major cannot continue to use their title in civilian life. Military etiquette and regulations make it very clear that "Captain Tom" should never be referred to as "Captain" anything because a captain is a junior officer!

All part of the branding campaign I suppose.

Grifty McGriftface wants the money and attention. It's the oxygen her type breathes.

LittleCharlotte · 07/03/2025 09:18

I'm not convinced he was a grifter. He just started doing a sponsored walk and it went crazy because blimey we all needed something to lift our spirits at that time. His family absolutely jumped on it so I'd blame them, the evidence is there that they exploited it but there's not much that he did apart from enjoying the fame and hell why not.

She's a bit like a one-woman version of the Post Office in the Horizon monstrosity.

Every single person knows that you are 100% guilty, with your reputation in tatters. We all know what the right thing is to do, to at least begin to make reparations and demonstrate your contrition; but instead, you throw a defiant toddler tantrum with no possible justification apart from "Waaaaaaahhhh - me, me, me, me!!!" and cling on to the wreckage in the desperate hope that there may just be one or two people out there, who don't already hate you, in a determined attempt to make it a complete full house.

Yes, I agree. I wondered why she'd reappeared in the news again and then see she's selling her books.
The woman has no shame whatsoever.
I hope people don't give her more money by buying it.
