I'm shocked and don't know what to say.
My friend of thirty plus years moved in with a new partner last year.
She had few options due to three divorces and very few savings.
I've met the chap once, he seemed OK but over handy for my liking. Both her adult daughters have said they don't like him. I thought it was an age and class thing (he's 27 years younger).
It turns out he is an admirer of Hitler and Trump.
I said to my friend well he won't be invited to dinner here. He apparently made the statements at a family party last week. The daughters quite rightly walked out. I'm disabled, my husband not white. My uncles POW. I can't believe she's with him. She was very lonely. Aibu to be shocked or none of my business?

OP, if any of my friends willingly shacked up with a literal fascist, as if that was just a harmless difference of opinion rather than a dangerous ideology of hatred and genocide, I would probably never speak to them again.

Hitler wasn't as bad as Hitler either, in 1934. It was clear to some people where he was heading though. Not to everyone. Lots of people wouldn't listen to the people who could see worse things coming.

No, they are actually very similar in far too many ways. There are quite a few historians who have spoken about the similar ways in which each came to power, one particularly talking about them as political performers, strong on extremist language but vague on policies.
The rhetorical strategies of both are very alike as is the whole PR aspect
Actually, the rhetoric of both are strikingly similar in their racism and dehuminisation and Trump has absolutely adopted tactics of Hitler, validating his supporters fears and blaming all of society's ills on a perceived 'group'

Similarly, Trump is now moving to control the media, handpicking who gets to ask questions in briefings and press conferences. And who even attends.

Trumps campaign was based partly on the demonisation of a whole group of people and their affect on ruining the good ol USA. He is talking about 'relocating' people from their homes en mass in a country that isn't even his. He wants to annexe other countries in any way possible. The rounding up of those he despises and sending them to camps to live in conditions that are unimaginable.
Lets not forget that he said that if he lost, it would be partly the fault of the Jews. He also failed to mention the word Jew in an earlier Holocaust remembrence speech. He did mention a 'unified reich' another time though

It is absolutely right to remember the pure evil of Hitler but it is wrong to forget that he started much slower to play on peoples fears and anger about economical and social issues. And there are far far too many similarities to pretend there isn't just to justify the support of the Orange Hitler 🤷‍♀️

I'm so sorry op. It's horrific he would have that viewpoint after what your family has been through. It's possible his views weren't as apparent earlier on, not that it makes much difference and she could obviously leave him.

Honestly I don't understand why people need to make wild comparisons. Trump isn't like Hitler anymore than anyone else is.

But Trump is sending people back to their own countries who entered illegally. Sending them home, for breaking laws that all countries have about illegal immigration. Not sending them to death camps because of their religion! I see what you mean about some of the similarities in coming to power, but I still think the Trump/Hiter comparisons are very off-colour and inaccurate considering what Hitler did. I agree with a PP about the comparison being insulting to Holocaust victims.

The fascist has two and that's usually a good indicator of a reasonable man.

Hopefully as my friend has told me about his views she's making plans to leave. I won't entertain him and luckily I don't have that many occasions to avoid him.

I think if you've moved in with someone and you have limited choices it's hard to say I've made a mistake. I don't know what that feels like having been married for 30+ years.
