I'm shocked and don't know what to say.
My friend of thirty plus years moved in with a new partner last year.
She had few options due to three divorces and very few savings.
I've met the chap once, he seemed OK but over handy for my liking. Both her adult daughters have said they don't like him. I thought it was an age and class thing (he's 27 years younger).
It turns out he is an admirer of Hitler and Trump.
I said to my friend well he won't be invited to dinner here. He apparently made the statements at a family party last week. The daughters quite rightly walked out. I'm disabled, my husband not white. My uncles POW. I can't believe she's with him. She was very lonely. Aibu to be shocked or none of my business?

Also really appreciating the dogs! The canine derailment of this thread greatly amused me at the end of a long day.

Op I think the men are a symptom of her own loneliness. It's a really difficult thing to live with so I'd probably be a bit concerned for her absolutely.

Up to you but I couldn’t remain friends with someone who didn’t mind her partner admiring Hitler. Even if she binned him now, I coukd never feel the same about her.

Are you absolutely sure he wasn't joking? I cannot imagine anyone being a fan of Hitler. Yes, I know Trump's awful, but he hasn't tortured and killed six million people for their religion. (I personally don't like the Trump/Hitler comparisons. Hitler's in a class of evil all of his own.)

Either he was joking or this isn't real, because I cannot imagine the Hitler thing. Even if true and even if he was a Hitler fan, it seems most unlikely that he would say it out loud.

Even Hitler had to start somewhere and that's why people are comparing him to Trump. Hitler passed the Law to Remedy the Distress of the People and the Reich (Enabling Act 1933) which allowed him to deviate from the constitution and essentially enabled him to become a dictator. Trump has gone on a lot about wanting a third term even though this is against the US constitution and is actively looking for ways around the constitution so he can stay in power. There are parallels between the rise of Hitler and what Trump is trying to do now and you don't even have to try hard to find them. His election has also given all the right wing Christians, racists etc the green light to pursue their demands virtually unimpeded. The attacks on abortion rights which obviously started before his election are escalating to absurd levels with some states now actively debating criminalising women for travelling across state lines for an abortion. Hitler banned abortion and restricted contraception. Texas has issued an extradition warrant against a New York doctor for sending (legal in NY) abortion medication through the post to a Texan woman.
