I tried.

I really did.

But JFC it's absolutely awful.

"Come and watch me make the most basic of crafts while telling me how much you admire me, and I gently patronise you"

Really awful.

I think some people do have a problem with her and don’t mind saying so. I do. I think she’s a pretty awful person because she lies, she’s spiteful and she’s a hypocrite. If she succeeds with this show then great, it might keep her out of mischief for a while.

Man people are wild

Ciri · 05/03/2025 09:35

This type of show is meant for people in a certain demographic who like pottering and pinterest and being poncetastic (as per the MN threads). I fall into that demographic. I have HGTV on constantly in the background and watch all the homes/gardens/lifestyle programmes.

I turned it off after 2/3 of an episode. It was reminiscent of when your teenager tries to teach you the most basic of things that you've been doing for decades like they've just invented it.

No of course not, but this would be a pretty boring place to browse if we all just posted if we were being unreasonable about not liking a TV show 🥱

It's almost as if the show isn't really the issue here 🤔

Ikr. Talking TV show opinions is so unusual

I wonder what the underlying problem with gavin abd stacey was

Gavin and Stacey isn't funny amymore | Mumsnet

Is it just me? I don't think it's aged well at all, I thought the finale was rubbish!

I watched Ep 1 because I was curious. Couldn't go further.
Leaving MM aside, are these type of shows popular in the hellscape that is 2025? I don't know anyone who has the time to make candles or bath salts. Baking, OK.
Is the audience just very rich trad wives? Puzzled.

SnowFrogJelly · 05/03/2025 09:36

Got a one star review 😬

CreationNat1on · 05/03/2025 09:36

What a goady, incitement to loathing inspired thread. Nasty.

I havnt watched it yet. Whenever I watch MM inspired content, I find it twee and boring, however MM reminds me a little of Amanda from Amandaland, so I might tune in at some point.

I enjoyed it

Really calming

I enjoyed the 2 i watched too,i'm indifferent to her and it is quite shallow , i expected there to be lots of 'amazing' 'oh my gosh' 'i love you' etc as it was but i think this type of american programme is always like that.
I enjoyed it the same way as i would flicking through a home /interiors magazine, visually beautiful ,carefree ,a bit impractical but a nice break from work/domesticity for a few minutes.

Greyexpectations · 05/03/2025 09:37

chollysawcutt · 05/03/2025 08:56

I haven't watched it because it's not really my vibe. Plus, social media is full of free content like this, so I'm not sure what warrants a paid-for TV series.

BUT I do think she is kind of between a rock and a hard place. Her profession, her career, her training, is TV/acting. She dumped it for a career change (Royal Person) which spectacularly didn't work out for her.

She can no longer be an actor because she has become the story, so the only place for her to go (because why should she give up all that she trained for?) is a fictionalised, non-fiction version of herself. Basically, the only person who can write a script for her, is her. It's all very meta.

Marina Hyde said something interesting on the latest Rest is Entertainment about Oscar speeches - how they are often so tedious because many actors are brilliant at making other people’s scripts come to life, but dreadful at being themselves.

I thought MM was a perfectly good, watchable actor, but it sounds like she cannot be herself in an entertaining way. I say though the Mindy Kaling snippet on the Netflix homepage and thought it looked utterly hideous - and if that was the best bit, chosen to draw viewers in, the rest must be unbearable.

Oh cool, you spent far too long making lady birds on toast. I could paint the cistern chapel in cheese but it would all still look the same smeared in a toddler’s hair. Some of us have less time to waste.

PorkHollywood · 05/03/2025 09:37

She has a really annoying manner of speaking, I’ve had to switch it off.

Is that their house? It's amazing! I don't mind it, don't love it. Am watching it because it's MM

No, apparently they rented it for the show.

I guess it's soothing. It's like how I read long makeup guides while not actually wearimg makeup?

I sort of think that if she wants to win people over and 'share' her life why does she not share her actual life-and film it at home as that's what people may be interested in? Otherwjse it's just a woman who people
May or may not think is a bit of a grifter talking about things about which she doesn't have any particular expertise. And so what's the point? She isn't interesting or knowledgeable enough in her own right to make it worth watching for her advice or opinions on cooking or styling or whatever. People are interested in her because of who she married let's face it and how that plays out in her home life.

Because that would end up being some sort of grim kardasian style childhood for the DC. As much as I dislike how fake/rude she comes across the one positive to her seems to be that she prioritises the DCs privacy.

Sunshineandoranges · 05/03/2025 09:40

She stated she enjoys the sacred time with her family at the end of each of her working days. What exactly is this sacred time?

Theunamedcat · 05/03/2025 09:40

toastofthetown · 05/03/2025 08:41

Sorry, why do you think might be being unreasonable? MN has a section for TV shows and a Royal Family section if it’s specifically Meghan you want to talk about.

But she doesn't WANT to be royal they are racist

Robynxoxo · 05/03/2025 09:43

All that matters is the streaming numbers. Alot of bad tv shows and movies do well financially. Emily in Paris for example is awful but I love it.

Ozgirl76 · 05/03/2025 09:44

I’m probably in the demographic that should like it. I used to love River Cottage, and I’m a middle aged, middle class woman. But to me it’s a little try hard - I like presenters to be a bit more real and fallible, and to be able to put myself in their life. But I would never be friends with someone who ponced around with rainbow fruit and making everything perfect, it’s way too much.
I guess maybe Americans like that kind of thing though.

Any show with hired 'friends' is toe curling. Jamie Oliver did it and so did Nigella.

True, but Jamie and Nigella can actually cook and are known/respected for being cooks.

Ap42 · 05/03/2025 09:45

I made it through half an episode. It was dull!

CreationNat1on · 05/03/2025 09:45

I visualise a hippy sitting under a tree with a colourful handed knitted (by granny) poncho on, having a ‘smoke’. Yeah, man.
