I tried.

I really did.

But JFC it's absolutely awful.

"Come and watch me make the most basic of crafts while telling me how much you admire me, and I gently patronise you"

Really awful.

🤣🤣🤣

I do also like the plates that were used in the show. The White Company has lovely dupes such as the bone china pasta bowls.

Face it, it's a complete flop.

Great - now that you’ve been completely vindicated in rubbishing the show those of us who are enjoying a completely inoffensive lifestyle show can get on with chatting about what we liked about it.

The Portobello Scalloped Bowls are also lovely. Are made in porcelain and with lovely shapes.

I really also love the idea of the mason jar margaritas - thinking of doing a variation when we go camping in late spring (just trying to think of a glass alternative because the site is glass free - hmm). We normally get there early (it’s a small music festival) - so would be fun to have whilst I set up the gazebo and the cooking station.

This sounds really lovely though😄. As I 've said given the gloomy winter that we had, I can't wait for the festivals season and spring in general. Just thinking about where you could find an alternative to glass.

Omg I answered my own question - souper cubes! And then I can then freeze the jalapeños or lemon peels in them. Omg they will look so bloody cute - I am going to be insufferable 🤣.

TheMeasure · 11/03/2025 08:37

We have a concerted effort here from two posters to champion the show in whatever way they can.
And one of those posters (now on 142 posts on this thread) has accused others of being fixated.

This is so clever 😂 they are going to look very cute indeed, and most importantly "unrelatable" 🤣

chollysawcutt · 11/03/2025 08:42

Oh, I watched it! Well, the first episode. It was unintentionally hilarious. Or maybe it was intentional? Her guest 'Uncle' Daniel (do the kids really call him that? I had my doubts that they have even met him) was solidly uncharismatic. And, for an MUA, decidedly un-dexterous.

And then all those whispery shots with 'Beekeeper Brandon', a kind of b-list Owen Wilson (who doesn't get credited with a last name and who Meghan calls 'the beekeeper'. No Uncle status for him).

But my main take was, all this talk of 'elevating' the guest experience... just sit them outside to look at that amazing view. I mean, how much more 'elevated' do you need to be?

I watched with 22 yr old DD and she was 🤔. Didn't get the concept. Didn't understand what Meghan was aiming for. Thought it was a shame she wasn't doing something more interesting. Said insta is full of this stuff - for free.

Also, at least Nigella and Jamie have a crowd to please on their shows, all Dancin in the Moonlight etc. I just felt kind of sad for Meghan at the end with her one friend.

Awww with regards to the views, the show really sparked my interest in visiting California one day.
The landscape is so rich( mountains, beaches, countryside. Especially Montecito.)

Maybe one day. Certainly not under this administration.

Now that actually sounds good! 😂

And making chicken dinner for Jeffrey on a Friday when he drives home from work
And saying how cute he is.
And knowing every shop keeper in the Hamptons .
And her gay friends who own the flower shop. I reckon they're always glad if a free meal from Ina's Dina '

That episode with Daniel which showed the back garden view of the mountains and then the hike with Delfina (in addition to their garden) really has showcased Montecito - it really is gorgeous.

That lady is really pretty.
We are also nearing hiking season at least for me.

The episode with Delphina was my favourite one - just love the idea of hicking and having lunch al fresco.

I sat and watched a couple of episodes of this, the one with the bees and the one with the ridiculous fake children's party.

It's properly, properly awful, isn't it? The woman has no charisma, clearly no relationship with the people she is sharing a screen with and only the most basic of crafting/ cooking abilities. I mean, that pasta thing she made looked properly terrible, and yet somehow someone felt that greenlighting an entire series of this dull shit was a good idea.

muhlezur · 11/03/2025 09:39

i have been to that part of California several times and before the recent fires, and the reality is a huge part of the landscape is scorched earth from the regular wildfires they experience, roads are often washed away by flash floods and its a rare day when you can see the scenery clearly because there is usually a heavy haze blanketing the area, the air quality is not all that great either. It is not as idyllic as the few glimpses on MM's show.

The coastal scenery on a clear day is beautiful, the landscaped gardens of the mega mansions and gated communities are pristine, however the mountain area is harsh and for the most part it is pretty barren with just scrubland.

I don't know about that. I've only been to Houston, Chicago and New York( although my stay in New York was extremely brief). Would like to visit California as I have never been. Especially S. Francisco/ Montecito. So many interesting places that I would want to visit!

I’m in bed (still) this morning with a cup of coffee and I’m watching some of Jennifer Garner’s Pretend Kitchen shorts. I’m enjoying them and she is doing something I have criticised Meghan’s show for not doing (at least in the couple of first episodes I’ve seen) and that is to engage directly the viewer. Jennifer is looking straight into the camera and talking to me (the viewer) so I am not feeling like a spare part. She also has her pyjamas and big fluffy slippers on, no or little make up and just got out of bed hair. Her interactions with her mum are so natural and relatable and her mum is so ordinary (in a good way), quite elderly and non-glamorous. I know very little about Jennifer as a person and not a lot as an actress but what I feel is a realness about her and her mum. She seems to be the sort of person you could be friends with. I prefer this rather chaotic vibe, it’s more me. Apparently it is her real kitchen in her real home.

It was in reply to this comment, hate to burst anyone's bubble about were Meghan Markle lives, but there is nothing rich about the landscape there, unless Meghan residing there elevates the reality for some.

i'm a bit jealous of her tbh - I'd love to have the time and skills to be able to do things so neatly. I could try and make a lovely arrangement, but it would look awful!

And again S. Francisco is another one on my list. I agree that in the US in general the level of homelessness and other social issues are insane. So you would have pockets of extreme wealth and pockets of extreme poverty. However, I am still interested in visiting

But why not give it a try? Many things don't seem that difficult to replicate 😄You can do it!

TheMeasure · 11/03/2025 09:55

As with anywhere, it looks gorgeous in bright sunshine. SF is frequently shrouded in fog and LA in smog (I lived there).
Can't blame the crew for picking nice days for filming but bear in mind that only a tiny percentage of folk will live anywhere near the kind of luxury enclaves that H&M do. And of course, the recent wildfires have shown how quickly that can be wrecked in a flash.

I think the lack of charisma is a huge part of why people who turned against her (because of Oprah etc) can’t find their way back to when we thought we liked her (because Harry liked her, so she must be nice). Charisma can forgive a lot of things (not always a good thing) it can win people over. Charisma is something people feel from another person, it can’t be based on facts or how unfair supporters feel their favourite person is being treated. Even though he's an utter a*sehole at times, Harry can switch the charisma on which is a big advantage for him.

I went to Cali many years ago. San Fransisco was my favourite city. It was so beautiful and quirky. I loved every second of it. I'm almost scared to go back because its meant to have really gone downhill. I didn't make it to the National Parks (Young so spent my time in LA/San Fran and Vegas!) but that's on my Bucket List. I hope Trump/Musk don't destroy them before I can go.
