Is war likely?

In the UK in the next few years given world events?

What do people think will happen?

My personal view is that it is likely though of course not inevitable - but there is a path now for Europe to step up - but with the mad orange man who knows what will happen.

I’d go to war for Zelenskyy 🇺🇦🥰

Proudest moment was when he called JD Vance “suka/bitch” in the Oval Office of all places. He’s so sassy. Love him.

For the last 5 years.

You can't think of anything that has happened in the last 6 weeks that would make an invasion of Taiwan more likely? Of the US going back on its obligations to protect Taiwan?

BurgundyZero · 04/03/2025 22:44

A lot of you seem to go around in your little bubble and don't see the large urban areas given over to gang rule, the enclaves where nary a word of English is heard, the huge strife between immigrant populations importing their vendettas.

The war is starting and it won't be an attack from outside.

Bogginsthe3rd · 04/03/2025 22:46

With Trump I think probably war is less likely because

  • Trump has a huge ego and wants to be lauded with ending the Ukraine war
  • Zelensky, after his planned humiliation by Trump and Vance and after US withdrawal of military support now has no option but beg to give away Ukraine's minerals in exchange for a peace treaty.
  • If USA have control of minerals they have a presence in Ukraine that Russia wouldn't attack.
  • The price for peace will be Russia keeping all territory taken so far and maybe even more and Zelensky resigning.

BUT

In the medium term Russia will know USA is no longer Europe's back up and may not do anything in acceptance with NATO treaty (ie attack one NATO country is am attack on all), so may well feel like they can take more Baltic states. This would possibly mean European reaction and war between Europe and Russia. So v unstable situation. Without USA military backstop it's a brave new world.

Ok you Reform weirdo. Isn't there a Daily Mail headline that needs a bit of hate speech by you in the comments?

Sunnierclime · 04/03/2025 22:52

In the next days/weeks? I don’t think so.

Months / year? Probably not.

In the next 5 years ….. I reckon there will be a war of sorts, possibly cyber / trade based rather than military, but who knows.

I do think that with climate change, mass migration, resource shortages etc we are heading for WW3 within the century. I think the current culture wars, nationalism and scuffle for land and resources is just the beginning.

I would never vote Reform. I do live in ganglands and I am quite keen to have left this place well before the next election-- if there is one.

Of course there won't be WW3. No one can afford it, and there's the worlds so hung up human rights where people would simply refuse to fight. So no, of course there won't be.

Nobody could afford WWll. It didn’t prevent it. And no, people wouldn’t refuse to fight, they wouldn’t get any choice.

Yes, and rather concerning that it’s apparently going to take Europe about 10 years to re-arm. Putin is 73, I can’t see him hanging around, he’s going to want to make his move sooner than then.

The US are trying to stop the bloody war fgs.

Are they? What makes you think that? They don't seem to be doing a very good job of it if so.

Ah you must be a kent variant? When you say "if there is one" ominously, what Debbie downer dystopia are you suggesting ? Or are you considering the possibility of a reinstatement of monarchial rule by Charles III (and the ghost of Diana?)

MustBeGinOclock · 04/03/2025 23:05

Nope

BurgundyZero · 04/03/2025 23:10

Are you so ignorant that you don't understand what happens to elections in time of war?

Aye be gone with ya. Take your xenophobic views elsewhere.

Livelovebehappy · 04/03/2025 23:22

More likely civil war within the UK than a world war. There’s a palpable unrest and frustration atm in this country, like a bubbling cauldron. If the Government don’t start to get a grip, things will kick off within the next couple of years. That’s what I worry about.

Absolutely agree with this. This country is full of angry, disenchanted people. COL, collapse of infrastructure. We’re teetering on a precipice, and it won’t take much to set things off.

Zonder · 04/03/2025 23:00

Doing a better job than Europe have done. The war in Ukraine has been going on for three years. Europe have spent that time just making sympathetic noises, and thrown money and weapons at the situation. And now Trump has started to try and diffuse the situation, albeit not very well, Europe suddenly start trying to put plans in place to try and resolve. Where have they been the last three years? Trump may not be succeeding in his clumsy attempts, but at least it’s given Europe a kick up their arses.

InWalksBarberalla · 04/03/2025 23:35

ManHereSorry · 04/03/2025 22:03

Ridiculous take. All it means is that they could try to take over whoever they want, and you think European countries would just surrender to the Russians without a fight? Have you seen what Russia does to people from areas they capture?

The Russians have the pee-pee tape of Trump, this will prevent the US from trying to interfere too much in their antics. That’s why Trump is dismantling any opposition in the US. His plan is they will stand by while Russia does what it likes and it’s up to Europe to defend itself.

Why do you think Russia want to take over Europe rather than stop NATO expansion? And how exactly do you think Europe would stop them without the US? Angry tweets and cosplaying photo ops do not magically create a powerful military.

Likely outcome is that Russia will get to keep the parts of Ukraine they've already got. And then hopefully NATO (assuming it exists) will stops pushing up against Russia's borders. And the EU can merrily continue to spend billions on a Russian fossil fuels.

noblegiraffe · 04/03/2025 23:40

Why do you think Russia want to take over Europe rather than stop NATO expansion?

Why do you think Russia will be happy with the bits of Ukraine it gets to keep and not the whole of Ukraine that it actually wants?

No..despite how Starmer would like it. Good for the economy. Trump wants peace

Right 😐

I think they'll be happy enough to carve it up between them and the US. What do you think Europe can do about it. First you need to wean yourselves off Russian fossil fuels and somehow replace all your military kit you sent to Ukraine to be blown up by Russia.

You forgot to call us all 'sheeple' and end your post with 'FACT'. Very remiss, do make sure St. Tommy doesn't find out.

JadededViewer · 04/03/2025 23:52

War is never an inevitability but neither can it be dismissed. The tides are shifting, alliances are fraying, and the UK's defense posture is far from certain. If we aren't vigilant, we risk being swept up in events we could have controlled. It's time for leadership that sees the storm coming and acts before it breaks
