  1. CNN now, poll shows majority of Americans disapprove of Trump.
  1. Commentator stated that Trump spoke about his several conversations with Putin and alarm bells ring, because Trump is parroting what Putin says. No independent thoughts?
  1. He comes over as having memory problems. He forgets what he said earlier.
  1. He needs help running press conferences and appears unable to manage without support.

Is he ill?

It's very odd.

I think Vance is, if possible, worse than Trump. Trump is a chaotic opportunistic felonious narcissist, but Vance has slid into having a genuinely frightening world view, of the kind espoused by Bannon, Curtis Yarvin and Putin, all of whom want to see the dismantling of western democracy and Europe.

And he has the financial backing and the intelligence to put it in place, brick by brick. People keep saying that he's unlikeable, with is true, but he doesn't care. He knows how to consolidate enough power that likability doesn't matter.

My caveat is that I would be very happy to be proved wrong on this.

I'm 100% aligned with this. Those owning social and regular media are aligned behind him and will make sure he's the next POTUS. Likeability doesn't matter here.
I've never been scared so much by world events.

@newnamesix Vance is far cleverer than Trump too. Unlike Trump, who was born into a well-off family, he pulled himself out of a poor, chaotic family background into the Marines and eventually to Yale Law School.

He shouldn’t be underestimated.

Like others, I don’t really know what he stands for and that’s scary.

He has always been the same imo. He rants and then backtracks I follow him on twitter X and he gets up early like me he posts something outrageous and then an hour later his minions delete it. Trump is a business man and I think he is trying to run the USA the same as he runs his company which will not work. He is not completely in charge and they will reign him in if he starts to get irrational

He is not as poor as he pretends to be. I watched his film on Netflix and I was told by a friend in the USA that he has not been completely honest about his life story

Mrsdyna

Another one! If anyone ran this country down it was the previous bunch. Bozo Truss and Sunach.
Can you imagine tiny little Sunach swerving Trump’s strategy as well as Starmer did.

It’s popularism. We had the same with Brexit. Many people who had the vote relate to candidates and arguments that highlight the problems and struggles everyday folk can see in the street and/or in popular press/social media.

There’s no solution or joined-up thinking policies associated with these opinion agreements. Just personalities that “relate to the common citizen”.

when these people actually get elected then that’s where the problems escalate. Electing “cool” and “in touch” with the people politicians leads to all kind of problems. They are inexperienced, have no understanding of how things work, can’t see a holistic view and end up screwing over the people who voted for them in favour of their own idealism (in best case), or personal wealth and power.

The sooner major parties reach out to the disillusioned the better. There are so many people on the fringe that feel they’re not represented is now so high that it is not a fringe minority anymore. These people are going to vote for the likes of Trump, Farage because they reinforce their concerns.

@Elissaisnotmyname I listened to his audiobook as I knew nothing about him when he was nominated by Trump and wanted to find out more. I agree that he wasn’t dirt poor, but having a Mum with addiction issues can’t have been a picnic for him and his sister. His grandparents saved him from going into care so yes, it wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been.

Getting into Yale is a huge achievement for anyone though, he’s definitely very clever and shouldn’t be underestimated.

Oh he’s running it like a business alright. like his bankrupt casinos, hotels, “university”, etc. He certainly knows how to run a business into the ground!

Yes, he is clever, and funnily enough he benefitted from programs that these days would be known as, ahem, DEI

@newnamesix yes, very ironic!

Iceboy80 · 05/03/2025 20:02

He is fantastic, god forbid a man that ACTUALLY puts his country first unlike the UK and Europe, the problem is UK and Europe are blind to it. You should ALWAYS put your own country and your OWN citizens first but for some reason people think this shouldn't be the case, seriously those people are fools!

anon666 · 05/03/2025 20:04

Weirdly the Zelenskyy meeting has boosted his ratings according to the Daily Fail. 🙄

I feel like we're in a propaganda war now, with a handful of billionaires in charge of social media, plus armies of Russian bots populating the Internet with lies and outrage.

We already have problems with our "free" press in the UK, but nothing compared to what's coming. Russia and China both have effective propaganda and censorship systems within their borders. Trump is trying to obfuscate everything so much with lies that no-one can tell the difference. In a similar way we have had Boris and Brexit as a similar long running battle for "truth".

We are losing the epistemological crisis to propagandists.

How is he putting his country first? Prices are going to rocket, people are losing their jobs, he’s putting his country at massive risk to well
established enemies, he’s wrecking the environment, telling women what they can do to their bodies, taking away the right to protest, pulling SEN funding ….. the list is endless.

I've heard China say they are ready for a trade war or any other war America wants.
I never thought in my life I'd be cheering on China against America.
Trump is a fool of the highest order if he cosying up and thinks Putin is his friend. Putin will use Trump and spit him out. I think the only world leader Putin respects and could partner with is Xi Jinping

Nah, he's a complete tosser and he's taking everyone for fools. I grew up knowing that donald trump was a joke and he's still a joke. The North Americans will find out soon enough though, and it can't come soon enough believe me.

In my opinion, those who believe the tide is turning on Trump misunderstand the nature of power, loyalty, and perception.

I think you’re also missing the depth of stupidity, in combination with the power of social media to brainwash people. I suspect that the tide might begin to turn when their Social Security is impacted. But they’ll probably still find a way to blame the Democrats for that.

Still has his hard-core support but they'd love him.no matter what

Surely they will only love him until they lose their jobs, Medicaid etc?

The problem is it will take a few months for the effects to trickle down - increasing prices, rising inflation, loss of health coverage/programs supporting them/their families. By then it will be too late to easily rectify and so many people will suffer as a result.

Trump does not care about anyone but himself. He wants to be the richest, the most famous, etc, etc. He doesn’t even want to be President, he just wants the attention he can get and the money he can make for himself and his cronies.

OneLemonDog · 05/03/2025 20:53

It's interesting to see Trump allies hinting that he's going to back down a little. Could have been his negotiation tactic but it reads more like jitters.

I think a problem for Trump and the US, though, is that even if he entirely cancelled the tariffs, the loss of goodwill has been extraordinary and I think the majority of Canadians would persist with some level of boycott.
