The tide is turning on Trump

  1. CNN now, poll shows majority of Americans disapprove of Trump.
  1. Commentator stated that Trump spoke about his several conversations with Putin and alarm bells ring, because Trump is parroting what Putin says. No independent thoughts?
  1. He comes over as having memory problems. He forgets what he said earlier.
  1. He needs help running press conferences and appears unable to manage without support.

Is he ill?

It's very odd.

Fingers crossed but its going to take a challenging conversation to get hin to u turn on his decision to freeze aid for ukraine. The only carrot is ukraines minerals all these greedy fuckers give a shit against. The man is no statesman hes just thrown a tantrum due to the oval office spectacle. So there will have to be much ego stroking as doubt he will easily reverse if at all this recent decision. Perhaps it could be suggested he clearly wants peace and that war criminal in Russia could also cease bombing ukraine whilst "peace negotiations" prevail. Putin must be delighting in this.

It goes deeper than that, though. He started ranting about Hunter Biden at the White House meeting last Friday. Remember….that’s how he got impeached the first time—threatening Zelensky to remove the US funding already agreed/budgeted for by Congress unless Zelensky announced to the media that he was opening a formal investigation into the “Biden Crime Family” to thwart Joe Biden’s chances of winning in 2020. He’s still pissed off about that impeachment and sees Zelensky as the reason for it. It runs deep—not sure if it can be walked back.

The type of person that would vote for Trump wouldn’t have voted Democrat whatever they did. Trump is a convicted sexual abuser and felon who incited a violent insurrection, denied it, and then pardoned those who had been involved. That’s just a taster of the known unforgivable acts he’s committed. People voting for him are too far gone for ‘a different candidate.’

This is true of core voters, but I think probably the majority of people who voted Trump just hoped he would improve the economy, because they’re tired of being skint just like we are here. I don’t think we can blame the voters for the choices Trump has made.

I want aware of that, dobyou have any sources for that,? Also why would it be the responsibility of Z to instigate an investigation? Surely it would have been a US senator/official or such like?

A Ukrainian investigation. By the Ukrainian government. Trump thought it would damage Biden if a foreign government had him under investigation. Google Trump’s first impeachment.

I think he's already mentioned amending and extending how long presidents can run for office for. Watch this space. America could be in for a dictatorship which they're unable to crawl out of.
I do like that saying though, that people elect who they deserve.

I do feel somewhat sympathetic to the US people, including some Trump voters.

Even before Trump, their democracy was a flawed one, giving far too much power and influence to the mega rich. That, along with their all-but enshrined two-party system and hyper-partisan and relatively-unaccountable media mean that Americans are absolutely bombarded with disinformation (and that's before we factor in social media).

Essentially, half of the country has been slowly radicalized.

JadededViewer · 04/03/2025 23:49

In the realm of politics, perception often overshadows reality. While media outlets may highlight certain narratives, it's crucial to delve deeper into the substantive actions and policies that define an administration. The so-called "turning tide" may be less about a definitive shift and more about the natural ebb and flow inherent in democratic discourse.

*Imagine Trump causing a shitshow and you choosing to blame Biden for it.

Jesus wept*

It's actually vital to not only to imagine this but recognise it.

Biden's poor (and it was poor) presidency opened the doors for Trump's comeback.

He absolutely should have stepped aside after one term, allowing the Democrats to field a candidate that could have been effective in beating Trump.

His refusal to do this meant they were left with Harris, who was poisoned by both her own and Biden's legacy.

Given Trumps age they had a great shot of wiping him off the political stage if they could secure a second democratic term.

But no. He and his cronies got greedy and felt they could continue to another term, when frankly his capacity to be effective in the first was highly questionable.

They have some serious culpability here and I don't see many signs of them upping their game.

Right now they should be planning ahead for the mid terms and circling the wagons around a credible future nominee for the next election.

Someone who can encompass statesmanship and offers a sharp contrast to Trumps bluster and bullying without being patronisingly woke and be able to offer a clear economic message and rebuttal to his lies in soundbite format.

I don't agree that Biden's presidency was poor overall, in terms of policy and their execution (not that it was perfect) but I absolutely agree that he was plainly and obviously no longer a good candidate for 2024 and his unwillingness to resign was a big factor in the results.

That said, after Jan 6, Trump should have been (at minimum) jailed. If the Republicans hadn't assumed it to be the end of him, I imagine they would have voted to convict him on his second impeachment. Yes, Biden really, really should have kept to his word and not even tried to run again, but it is deplorable that Trump was even able to remain a viable candidate in the eyes of voters.

They shouldn’t HAVE to give anything up, but life isn’t fair and they are going to end up doing so to stop the fighting. The sooner that is done, the more lives will be saved.

I HATE this too. I hate Putin, can’t stand Trump and feel huge sympathy with Ukraine and its people. But three years in, the fighting and deaths have to stop.

Ukraine did give up something. They gave up their nuclear weapons capabilities after the Cold War ‘ended’ in return for guaranteed security. Apparently that security is no longer guaranteed.

Putin can’t be relied on to stick to any deal.

The deal: America gets the minerals. Putin gets to take some of the land he’s already gained. Ukraine gets peace.

But this is Trump and Putin. What happens when Putin and Trump get to do a deal and leave Ukraine people out of it entirely? (There’s already been one meeting between Russia and the US about Ukraine that Ukraine wasn’t invited to attend). Trump gets more mineral rights. And Putin gets all of Ukraine.

What country will Putin want next?

And then there’s the question of what countries will Trump want - Canada and Greenland - he’s already told us. Also Gaza as he’s made clear in his video.

@Catsandcheese If Trump goes, Vance takes over, it won’t trigger a complete change in leadership nor lead to an early election.
I much prefer the British system.

One step at a time though.
I know Vance is no better, possibly worse given he said maybe 5 years ago that he despised Trump and now here we are.

I used to think ( hope) Vance was just an opportunist who was biding his time but now I think he's fully immersed in the Trump cult and just gets off on being a bully in power.

Roe vs Wade was overturned under the democrats.

Yes, by a Supreme Court that is conservative with two applicants that lied to be approved by Congress.

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 05/03/2025 08:17

Yes, by a Supreme Court that is conservative with two applicants that lied to be approved by Congress.

Exactly. It was voted on 6-3. The 6 justices who voted to overturn were appointed by Bush Senior, Bush Junior, Bush Junior, Trump, Trump, and Trump.

And yes, they lied under oath during their confirmation hearings—they were all directly asked about Roe, all said under oath that Roe was settled precedent, yet surprise surprise, the minute they got the majority, they wasted no time undoing 50 years of womens rights.

I’m unclear how @AshKeys is laying this at the feet of the Democrats.

No - I precisely think that female and reasonable is the very counterpoint we need. Let's not start internalising those little boys' toxicity.

I agree, he has certainly shown his true colours over the past few days.
A horrible man.

I think Vance is, if possible, worse than Trump. Trump is a chaotic opportunistic felonious narcissist, but Vance has slid into having a genuinely frightening world view, of the kind espoused by Bannon, Curtis Yarvin and Putin, all of whom want to see the dismantling of western democracy and Europe.

And he has the financial backing and the intelligence to put it in place, brick by brick. People keep saying that he's unlikeable, with is true, but he doesn't care. He knows how to consolidate enough power that likability doesn't matter.

My caveat is that I would be very happy to be proved wrong on this.
