The tide is turning on Trump

  1. CNN now, poll shows majority of Americans disapprove of Trump.
  1. Commentator stated that Trump spoke about his several conversations with Putin and alarm bells ring, because Trump is parroting what Putin says. No independent thoughts?
  1. He comes over as having memory problems. He forgets what he said earlier.
  1. He needs help running press conferences and appears unable to manage without support.

Is he ill?

It's very odd.

he's decapitating the instruments of government every single day.

Can you give examples of this ? My knowledge of the mechanics of the American political system is fairly scant.

I’m no expert on the US political system, but my understanding is that new legislation should be voted upon in Congress. Trump is using Executive Orders (where he alone signs legislation into law) for everything, bypassing all Congressmen and Congresswomen who are the democratically elected representatives of each Community. Executive Orders are designed to be used in cases where legislation is urgent.

To be fair to Trump (I just shuddered after typing that), the use of Exexutive Orders has generally increased in recent presidencies - likely due to increased partidan gridlock.

Terrifying isn’t it? And even at this early stage, we already see leaders of other countries being forced “into a state of constant reaction, always playing defence, never dictating the terms of engagement”

Yes, but he is using them for everything, completely cutting Congress out the legislation process.

He is fantastic, god forbid a man that ACTUALLY puts his country first unlike the UK and Europe, the problem is UK and Europe are blind to it. You should ALWAYS put your own country and your OWN citizens first but for some reason people think this shouldn't be the case, seriously those people are fools!

@StrikeAlways Unfortunately, presidents issuing executive orders to bypass Congress is nothing new, especially if Congress is gridlocked, as it has been regularly in recent years.

I found these.stats and it’s quite interesting- FDR issued over 3,700 during his 12-year presidency! That does include wartime, of course, when quick decisions would’ve been
critical.

Some responses here sound very AI generated. There is a company called data annotation - I was quite interested in them as they pay but you do several tests to join and it's very easy to spot when doing the tests that it's all about AI and fluency in responding and much of the work is posting 'to an agenda ' on forums so it seems - they have a great many doing freelance for them- I think we are getting here on mumsnet 'this kind of thing' because mumsnet numbers are big enough to have influence -

@CaptainRosy I don't disagree- however I do object if paid influencers are being told to target it- I don't think that's really the spirit of the site

You don't see any difference between people arguing and debating opinions in good faith and people paid to alter the playing field? And don't bother with trying to equate MSM headlines with social media campaigns. Your position is either deliberately disingenuous or it's fatuous.

Ever heard of Cambridge Analytica? What if you're a political influencer who is paid by a hostile foreign government and you don't disclose that to your followers?

Crikeyalmighty · 05/03/2025 23:25

I can't agree with you @CaptainRosy it's a very big difference with 'me ' trying to influence/offer an opinion for the heck of it and others paid to do so either freelance or as part of a job without declaring 'who' their client is.

In one example, ten people are giving their opinions (of course, they'll be part-formed by wider societal influences).

In the other example, ten people (or AIs) are giving one person's opinion, giving it the appearance of undue weight.

Moreover, bots are widely used to purposefully circulate disinformation so, in the second example, the likely end result is more people believing false information.

I think he's eager to get going on leveling Gaza (including the people existing there) so that he can start the rebuild. Of course he won't be doing the dirty work, Netanyahu will, but the outcome will be pleasing to both.

Imagine Trump causing a shitshow and you choosing to blame Biden for it.

Jesus wept.

I blame him for handing Trump such an easy victory.

GoingOffScript · 06/03/2025 04:03

It’s too late to do anything. The USA had 4 years to
stop this guy coming back to the presidency. They failed. He ought to have been imprisoned for Jan 6 alone. He’s a mad man; a capricious brat would be dictator. He once boasted he could walk down Fifth Avenue and shoot someone and people would still vote for him.

“When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time”. Maya Angelou (or words to that effect).
