Middle-aged professional women doing drugs on the weekend

Is this common now? I was invited to a house party Saturday night and snow was being done quite openly, there were also Mary Jane vapes and Ecstasy passed around.

These were mainly mothers with adult grown sensible families. What is going on, am I totally not with it?

Was it always this way or is this scene infiltrating a different demographic now?

We always knew people like this did this, but was it this open and accepted?

I didn’t partake, still a great night.

You could argue lots of people are on drugs getting through a few bottles of pinot at the weekend, just a different drug in this case.

I love a pinot and don't care if it's a drug. Life is short, enjoy 😉.

My friends who take drugs have always taken them.

I'm early 40s and couldn't think of anything worse. I used to be borderline alcoholic and did a fair amount of drugs in the 90s/00s but I would never touch them now. Even if I wasn't a parent. I haven't had alcohol in a couple of years either, I haven't missed it.

Markovenchip · 09/03/2025 09:40

Glad you enjoyed the evening, but drugs are illegal, stay away from them, I would walk out of a gathering where drugs abound, if other people wish to spend money on this muck it's up to them, but as long as they don't go blaming anyone but themselves if they end up requiring hospital treatment

DibDob22 · 09/03/2025 14:51

Weed or marijuana

That’s a bit melodramatic. My reasons for not using drugs are the criminality, exploitation and environmental costs of something like cocaine, but it’s perfectly possible to be a middle-aged professional holding down a job, running a household and leading a functional life while taking drugs socially, with no more health risk than social drinking.

Fair enough, but I just can't be doing with illegal drugs, or people who imbibe and deal in them, no matter how 'soft' they are, but that's me, I can't change at age 64, I wish you all the best.....

Soberinthecity · 10/03/2025 17:38

Yes normal. But as you can prolly tell from my name, not for me for a good long while, now. I'm in bed by 9 latest!

not heard /seen coke and smoking dope, all a bit 70's / 80's..E too.. but mescaline and micro-dosing acid does seem to be quite popular amongst 40-50 y.o. mums I know.

fair comment re the societal costs of coke. Pity more people don't factor that in.

So many people saying drugs are illegal youbare terrible for the social issues it causes. Yes this is a fair argument., if the government really cared they could look at policy change, decriminalisation, regulation and in fact would likely decrease usage and stop the nefarious element. This isn't a new problem, people will always the drugs so why not address the route cause. Secondly people who say everything that is legal and immoral is fine e.g consumer goods supply chain, and the people on the other side of this suffering, ignorance of Western involvement in atrocities e.g slaughter of children in palestine should take a long hard look at their moral compass and should maybe face into these issues and not consume countless products or vote for parties that back them before ranting
Get off your moral high horses you are just as bad.

valentinka31 · 13/03/2025 19:26

they think they are so cool. I knew one who also swore, drove too fast, parked in disabled spaces and fucked other people's partners because they weren't 'husbands' so she had zero respect. Absolute embarrassment of a person.

How can a mother take class A drugs and drink a bottle of rose a day and think she is better than other people. Think she is living the life, just because she shafted her ex DH for a stack of cash.

I think quite honestly it is dirty living and I find that behaviour unbelievably immature, and pretty sad. But a lot of these middle class mums on coke think they are superior somehow.

I don't.

Agree, I think ‘because it’s illegal’ is a very poor argument.

In very recent times being gay was illegal. Alan Turing was chemically castrated by the state for admitting to a boyfriend. It’s just not any reliable arbiter of morality.

If you’re worried about the legal consequences of taking drugs recreationally, fine – although it’s practically decriminalised for users.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons not to take recreational drugs (including alcohol).

Leeto888 · 13/03/2025 21:24

There is substantially more to it than being illegal. Driving 32 mph in a 30mph zone is also illegal. When you choose to buy drugs you are supporting organised criminal gangs and all the violence and misery that brings to some of the most vulnerable people in society.

my mum used to chastise us for not eating dinner when there 'are starving children in Africa'. Well done for blowing out your argument to an equal degree ! And equally illogical: that legal alcohol access is at base of many societal problems does not mean that equally damaging illegal drugs should therefore be made legal.

indeed..that doesnt mean they shouldn't be challenged when illogical or demonstrably wrong ... 'a lie is half way round the world before the truth has got its boots on'
