Middle-aged professional women doing drugs on the weekend

Snookerfan · 02/03/2025 22:12

Is this common now? I was invited to a house party Saturday night and snow was being done quite openly, there were also Mary Jane vapes and Ecstasy passed around.

These were mainly mothers with adult grown sensible families. What is going on, am I totally not with it?

Was it always this way or is this scene infiltrating a different demographic now?

We always knew people like this did this, but was it this open and accepted?

I didn’t partake, still a great night.

Have never come across this.

I don’t think taking drugs is anything to be proud of. But neither is boasting about how boring you are after a certain age and how you are in bed at 9pm every night past a certain age. As many people are doing on this thread.

@PickledKT

My husband is 50 and I am 37 - we are having a dinner party this weekend and we have "snow" for pudding 🙌🤩

This is a genuine question. Does the supply chain really not bother you? Have you read about county lines? It's about one step removed from whoever you buy your coke from. I'd be really interested about your thoughts on it.

Are you aware of Supply chain of Jasmin - Yes The Flower - that is used manufacture every perfume out there? ITS horrific, probably worse than "snow" here's a link below with the documentary about it

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct6r8y

But yes Absolutely! The entire supply chain is corrupt and dangerous. I don't think about this to be honest - this applies to all recreational drugs - just like perfume - if it's good I will invest in it

please bear in mind also - I only engage in this a few times a year and unlike some people I don't do it around children

BBC World Service - The Documentary, Perfume’s dark secret

Children as young as five are picking jasmine, an ingredient used in leading perfumes

kungfoofighting · 05/03/2025 08:25

I don’t take drugs or drink (hardly ever) nowadays.

If someone was getting sloppy and messy, can see how that’s unappealing. But if people are just enjoying themselves and dabbling a bit at weekends with friends – I don’t know, whatever. They’re probably having fun.

Many drugs may not have ethical supply chains, but then neither do iPhones. If you’re vocal about one, be equally vocal about the other, or you’re just a hypocrite picking something you dislike anyway to virtue signal about.

I know. Just because you're over 5O you don't have to act like you're practising being in a nursing home.

lissie123 · 05/03/2025 08:49

Drugs are illegal. Alcohol is not. There is the line. Whether you are taking or supplying drugs you are breaking the law however you justify it. My Ds (early 20’s) rents a house in a dodgy area -next door to a drugs dealer. He sees the middle class mums and dads turn up in their expensive cars to get their supplies for the weekend. He thinks it’s ridiculous.

Has anyone in the anti-drug camp eaten an avocado recently?

Just some food for thought…

Mexico's avocado boom and organized crime

The growth of global avocado consumption in recent years has drawn attention to Mexico’s avocado industry and the expanding criminal networks around it. While studies have tended to present organized crime as a barrier, the industry’s growth has evolve...

Yes Chatting absolute SHIT 🤣

Yeah. We know. Self important, self indulgent shit. We've all been on the wrong end of some coked up motormouth holding court at some point. I guess you think it's enormous fun and 'if you can't beam 'em, join 'em.'

Well thanks, I'll pass, but you knock yourself out.

GregT · 05/03/2025 09:24

I’m not a middle aged woman, but as a man I don’t think that is commonly done or acceptable. None of my friends do that!

id find another set of friends. You could end up with traces of the stuff on you, it’s illegal and you could in the worst case could end up with some kind of career ended conviction. Not to mention the lives ruined by drugs.

I’m not a policeman btw. My vice is getting rather drunk occasionally (happy drunk 🥴) .

its not big, it’s not clever! (Yes I’m a parent of 3) lol

Just some food for thought…

Person A: Murdering people is bad!

Person B: Yet you yourself partake in crime by eating avocados 😏

Kids in Liverpool aren’t getting shot over Jasmin, but crack on with your dinner party fun.

Well the point is its no different to all the posters who act like a middle aged woman occasionally partaking in drugs on a weekend is anything other than a drop in the ocean of demand for the drug market next to heroin addicts scoring multiple times a day. You really think the drug trade will disappear just because you guilt tripped a couple of middle aged woman on Mumsnet?

Its more the ageism for me why do many here think it's fine for a young person to do drugs but unacceptable for anyone middle aged? You're either for or against drugs right.
Me personally I've never done drugs, but then I became a mum at 15 so never had time, maybe when the kids are grown up and I'm middle aged I'll go a bit wild haha probably not but if I do so what?

Why don't the virtue signallers on here all get together to help all the apparently sweet innocent teen boys who got tricked into selling drugs and have no idea what they're actually doing. 😂 See how that goes

Hummingbird445566 · 05/03/2025 10:52

I think it’s normal in a lot of circles. I personally don’t touch the uppers anymore as the lows after just aren’t worth it. I and many of my friends quite happily partake in cannabis. We understand the strains and the different effects, and only consume enough to have a lighthearted evening the same as those who like a couple of glasses but don’t drink to excess. There is no hangover and no issues with additional calorie intake (unless you hit the chocolate drawer,) and we are all likeminded. This country is one of the last to legalise and I personally don’t think it will be long until it is.

Thirl123 · 05/03/2025 11:00

No this is not normal but could be quite widespread. People who do this have no morals or decency because of the harm and misery the drug supply chain causes. I feel sorry for these lost souls

Crikeyalmighty · 05/03/2025 11:12

I don't know anyone doing this shizzle anymore and i work in music ! Most I've seen is a few occasional spliffs , too much alcohol ( still popular) and someone who I was managing clearly taking coke a fair bit in her 30s - she couldn't hack it and ended up a right aggressive mess before going cold turkey and quitting any drugs

NewMarmiteJar · 05/03/2025 11:12

If we're heading in the ethical direction presumably buying from Primark or Shein et al in terms of child labour and exploitation is just as problematic.

Or using a smartphone or electric car…those minerals are not mined ethically

Flowerpower456 · 05/03/2025 11:17

I find it incredibly sad that anyone would want to take something that not only is illegal, something people seem to forget but a substance that can cause such devastation in such a frivolous way. Like can you not have fun without it? Really? Do you lack such a personality that you need to resort to chemically changing your brain?
and yes I am aware that alcohol is also harmful and I again find it sad when grown adults feel the need to abuse that to such extreme in order to “have fun”.
Honestly I would find new friends. Like others have said do they not have jobs that would be at risk by engaging in that behaviour?

No it isn’t. It’s ridiculous to suggest it is.

LighterSpring25 · 05/03/2025 11:27

None of my middle aged friends do it but I know it's popular with some of the local 20/30 year olds.

06230villefrancesurmer · 05/03/2025 11:35

Musknet · 04/03/2025 18:58

About 93% of the UK consumption of cocaine occurs within a 20 mile radius of Chipping Norton.

I know because I live there and I am very, very observant.

That's just not true

Itsabummer · 05/03/2025 11:41

Notsosure1 · 03/03/2025 02:43

I guess it depends what you mean by harmful and also the industries behind them. The supply of Bordeaux is probably slightly different to that of crack cocaine.

The “Drug industry” supply chain is evil, destroying communities, families and individuals. They are the reason for much knife and gun crime not to mention the sideline industries such as prostitution, people trafficking
I accept alcohol is horrendous to get addicted to, the Australian, French, South African, Californian and many other wine producers are not the evil drug cartels that promote junkies
Middle class dinner party guests consuming drugs are allowing these cartels to thrive. But hey it’s “cool”, not so cool when the magistrate is lenient on his/her drug supplier in court or when the geography teacher decides to have a quick line during break time and is caught by pupils.
