Middle-aged professional women doing drugs on the weekend

Is this common now? I was invited to a house party Saturday night and snow was being done quite openly, there were also Mary Jane vapes and Ecstasy passed around.

These were mainly mothers with adult grown sensible families. What is going on, am I totally not with it?

Was it always this way or is this scene infiltrating a different demographic now?

We always knew people like this did this, but was it this open and accepted?

I didn’t partake, still a great night.

The only thing I’ve noticed is that now the children are all older and independent, some friends are more likely to enjoy wine more than perhaps before. Where as they might have just had one glass they’re more open to say three glasses etc.

wtf. 3 glasses. You’re off your fucking head @friendlycat and I hope they take your adult kids away

I presumed she meant in powder form - I.e. MDMA.

In answer to the op, it's common in some circles, not in others I think. I'm not too fussed what others choose to do. No where I go appears to have it available but I've heard of others taking it who I know.

Sounds like a load of performative wank. Middle aged, middle class druggies are deeply tedious. You probably need some new friends.

What’s ‘performative’ about taking drugs? It’s age old.

Bluh · 02/03/2025 22:56

@stanleypops66 no-one likes a narc hun

Never been any less tedious, though. I bet they all feel so WILD when they're at it.

Edited

I assumed she meant someone offered Ecstasy to the adults at a house party.
Snow and Mary Jane though 😆

Can they get me some speed? I need a boost

I only have 1.5 days off per week and I have to fit in the housework, life admin, meal prepping and cook a roast. When are they doing their chores, when?!

If you ask about the speed could you also ask for some tips on household management, these ladies are clearly doing it way better than me if they are free to live it up with Molly on the weekends.

They don’t watch television and barely consume any social media, that leaves many hours to have a nice dinner and a good time each evening.

All very slim and stylish. Maybe they’re not getting it too badly wrong!

Whats a Mary Jane vape?

I don’t know anyone really doing this, but we are at the ‘I want to go to bed at 9pm’ phase of parenting.

Whats a Mary Jane vape?

Goes with your Mary Jane shoes. Very Mumsnet Style&Beauty.

Ohapal · 02/03/2025 23:00

I don't think I would get about with those people anymore. I'd be pretty pissed off if someone offered me that shit. I'd think they never grew up and couldn't see past the end of their own noses. Bet they'd be really fucked off if their teens got sucked into county lines or whatever. But alright for them perpetuate the demand for it? Fuckwits.

KatyaKabanova · 02/03/2025 23:02

I love your usage of drugs lingo. Do you live in Macclesfield and work in IT?

lilmishap · 02/03/2025 23:03

OP it was a house party, it's exactly the right environment (at the right part of the week) for middle aged people to get wasted around other middle aged people without judgement.
What happens at the other house parties you've been to?

mummymissessunshine · 02/03/2025 23:04

Seems pretty normal in some circles.

3 in one sitting is rather excessive, I don’t believe the svelte figures would last that long caning it each weekend like that.

what stage is that? Asking from a parent of an 11 year old…

KidsDoBetter · 02/03/2025 23:07

Tbh yes - it’s common in my group of friends. Men & women all highly professional well paid etc. Not on every social occasion thankfully as that would be very tedious. But 3-4 times a year I suppose.

Were they Sex People Elaine?

I don't understand this joke and need it spelling out to me please!

KatyaKabanova · 02/03/2025 23:10

Yes, never mind the exploited teenagers from the council estates doing all the drug running. Just relax and light another candle.

mynameiscalypso · 02/03/2025 23:10

I'm sure there are people like this but my various social groups are not into drugs at all. One went through a phase of taking ketamine until she freaked out that it was going to ruin her bladder and stopped. We don't even drink that much these days, for more interested in cheese than anything else really.

look up Alan Patridge sex people episode on you tube. It’s genius. Stephen Mangan at his finest. Think it’s Lynne not Elaine tho.

You smoke cheese ?! Wow.

Red0 · 02/03/2025 23:11

I continue to be shocked that parents in their 40s with primary school aged children - professional people, outwardly sensible nice people - are sniffing cocaine on a weekend including back home after an evening out, taking pills when it’s a bigger night out, taking a line here and there on a random weekday night at the pub. These are parents I see at school that I would never suspect, but through mutual friends, I know a lot more about them then they realise!

mommatoone · 02/03/2025 23:11

OP you seem more focused on their 'svelte figures' than the fact they are cokeheads or whatever they are! I'm cringing

hellywelly3 · 02/03/2025 23:12

Suppose if they had their kids in their 20’s it’s probably a bit about reclaiming a bit of lost youth.

Cheese is another street name for Monkey Dust. V popular in Stoke apparently
