Middle-aged professional women doing drugs on the weekend

Snookerfan · 02/03/2025 22:12

Is this common now? I was invited to a house party Saturday night and snow was being done quite openly, there were also Mary Jane vapes and Ecstasy passed around.

These were mainly mothers with adult grown sensible families. What is going on, am I totally not with it?

Was it always this way or is this scene infiltrating a different demographic now?

We always knew people like this did this, but was it this open and accepted?

I didn’t partake, still a great night.

I’m not a middle aged woman, but as a man I don’t think that is commonly done or acceptable. None of my friends do that!

id find another set of friends. You could end up with traces of the stuff on you, it’s illegal and you could in the worst case could end up with some kind of career ended conviction. Not to mention the lives ruined by drugs.

I’m not a policeman btw. My vice is getting rather drunk occasionally (happy drunk 🥴) .

its not big, it’s not clever! (Yes I’m a parent of 3) lol

You won’t end up with a conviction simply from being around people taking drugs.

Kids in Liverpool aren’t getting shot over Jasmin, but crack on with your dinner party fun.

So you are fine with kids being hurt as long as they aren’t local kids?

Person A: Murdering people is bad!

Person B: Yet you yourself partake in crime by eating avocados 😏

Actually Person A: is arguing drugs are bad because of the violence of the supply chain

Person B: is pointing out the same cartel links to avocados.

Have a wild guess.

ColourlessGreenIdeasSleepFuriously · 05/03/2025 13:56

You can get fair trade avocados though

I think it’s normal in a lot of circles. I personally don’t touch the uppers anymore as the lows after just aren’t worth it. I and many of my friends quite happily partake in cannabis. We understand the strains and the different effects, and only consume enough to have a lighthearted evening the same as those who like a couple of glasses but don’t drink to excess. There is no hangover and no issues with additional calorie intake (unless you hit the chocolate drawer,) and we are all likeminded. This country is one of the last to legalise and I personally don’t think it will be long until it is.

And do you grow it yourself?

Or do you buy from a dealer where some poor sod has been trafficked into the UK and locked in a building for a couple of years to care for one crop rotation after another?

I grow my own. That way I can ensure it’s all natural, all organic and of a strain that isn’t too strong or full of the harmful properties that are more likely to induce psychosis related issues

Thirl123 · 05/03/2025 11:00

No this is not normal but could be quite widespread. People who do this have no morals or decency because of the harm and misery the drug supply chain causes. I feel sorry for these lost souls

This is very common/normal BUT most that I know of are using natural products such as mushrooms or cannabis and are not involved in drug purchase at all.

LoAndBeholden · 05/03/2025 15:20

Having been in middle-class circles all
my life, I have not encountered this other than when at university in the 90s. And I am now 55 and our kids have left home. Nobody even drinks much any more. OP, we clearly have very different friends!

Bugaloo77 · 05/03/2025 17:14

I’m clearly doing something wrong if they have the energy to do drugs and still parent. I couldn’t parent my out of a paper bag after 3 glasses of wine let alone drugs.

I do know a lot of parents smoke weed once the kids are in bed though.

MarvellousMonsters · 05/03/2025 19:09

PickledKT · 04/03/2025 19:03

I have been around people who have done this in my adult life for about 15 years. I think it's all good as long as there no children around - I've never participated if people have told me their children are in bed - that's ridiculous - I once had a couple turn up to my house and say "I've left my 11 year old babysitting her 5 year old sister" and I told them to go home - I mean what were they thinking?

I think the most important thing is that you are around good people and there are no safe guarding issues in relation to children and pets for that matter - and also not doing it during the week!
if you have no kids - work hard / play hard

If you are not used being around this - it can be a shock though. My husband is 50 and I am 37 - we are having a dinner party this weekend and we have "snow" for pudding 🙌🤩

Can I suggest you watch the NARCOS series' on Netflix, it might make you think twice about the industry you're supporting.

Yes! Pablo Escobar was so fucked up. Do you remember the bombings and all the people he killed because he didn't get his own way! Scary business! Especially back then - no one has ever come close to what atrocities he committed and will be felt by many for centuries!

I was responding to OPs post in regards to "she still had a good night" and to be clear I was not in anyway promoting "sitting around doing coke"

I can see how my post may have sounded really immature for a 37 year old and I have had more people in this post say to me how stupid I sound - rather than people who enjoy that sort of thing - who do it respectfully and responsibly.

i have been very used to being around people in the last 20 years doing this for years in a social situation

if you want to see a real problem check out Jasmin Pickers for all the perfumes in the world!

BBC World Service - The Documentary, Perfume’s dark secret

Children as young as five are picking jasmine, an ingredient used in leading perfumes

Leeto888 · 05/03/2025 19:41

Are you still going on about Jasmine @PickledKT? no matter how much you bang on about this, it doesn’t change the fact you are propping up an industry which is based on exploitation and violence.

Dontshootthemessengers · 05/03/2025 19:54

JohnofWessex · 02/03/2025 22:52

The issue I suggest is a bit like Child Pornography and the devastation that the supply chain causes

Exactly this. It’s no good supporting local farmers and buying fair trade bananas and chocolate all week then snorting coke at the weekend! Massive hypocrisy

PickledKT · 05/03/2025 19:58

Leeto888 · 05/03/2025 19:41

You are totally right. I apologise if I have caused any upset. I didn't mean any harm and my comments are not malicious - I didn't mean to bang on about anything and you are correct 100% I shouldn't be using The Jasmine Picking industry to excuse my post and my actions - again I am sorry if it seemed like I was showing off - I just posted being honest as the OP asked if this sort of thing happens in our middle age - again I do not have any children or dependents

Leeto888 · 05/03/2025 20:08

Don’t apologise @PickledKT You obviously mean well.

We did have one politician there, and a magistrate. Politician was into the vape, magistrate happily expertly hoovering a line. Most funny of all, my friend’s kid’s geography teacher was there. Bizarrely, I was more shocked by the school teacher than anyone else.
Not much hard drinking at all come to think of it. Pretty decorous in a casual sort of way, all things considered.

I'm a bit shocked by the magistrate, they might have someone come up in front of them on a charge involving cocaine use. Also I feel very differently about a joint to coke which is addictive and can destroy lives.

NattyNatashia · 08/03/2025 18:17

You could argue lots of people are on drugs getting through a few bottles of pinot at the weekend, just a different drug in this case.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/03/2025 18:19

Clearly my social circle isn't posh enough for that. A good night for us is cocktails and shots 😂. Only three or four times a year, we have primary aged kids to care for!!

LlynTegid · 08/03/2025 18:21

Sadly I suspect you are right.

People who don't care about those who are stabbed (not usually white middle class people), or modern slavery. Or to put it another way, indirectly racists.

Tothegym · 08/03/2025 18:49

Yes, quite simply it is now quite common in certain groups, and maybe always has been because if you aren’t into it you usually wouldn’t be exposed to it, they will be in the bathroom or need to keep popping out the room. Most of us have hung around with someone who’s doing this without us even knowing. Unless you live with them every day you don’t know how it really negatively affects them and it’s easy for them to put on a show of a great life if you only see them on one evening, they might have a miserable life on the other days, on a come down, mentally beating themselves up.

TicklishBeaker · 08/03/2025 18:54

Not normal to me. But guess it is to others
I wouldn't know what snow and the rest of them are!!

You don’t get charged for taking coke.

They’d only really go after suppliers – lower level ones might be of interest for the info they can provide (if persuaded)
