To be jealous of everyone getting slim in weight loss jabs while I get fatter !

Sundayslump · 02/03/2025 08:18

Okay - lighthearted ? Maybe.

I’ve been lucky to grow up and be a size 10 . Had a baby at 27. Lost all the weight but my body changed. Baby 2 , again gained 4 stone but I’ve always kept the last stone. I am now 12/14 uk.

I work full time and have two children . I eat healthy for the most part and walk and exercise. When I am super strict which feels so much harder at 40 I am a size 12 but unlike in my 30s it seems so much harder to lose weight now . I feel crap in my clothes and I wish and dream of being a size 10. Call me pathetic !

My brother and his wife , twos sisters and their husbands , work colleagues and a few of my good friends who were never obese but had a few stone to lose are all taking weight loss jabs. They have all lost around 2/3/4 stone and are all now looking fab . All the women are now in size 8 jeans and I am jealous. I sound pathetic . None of these ladies were any bigger than a 14/16 to start with.

I totally understand these jabs are so life changing for so many people who need them but it seems in my life everyone has taken them and gone from a 14/16 to a size 8/6 size Uk and I can’t help but feel like if I just bloody jump on the bandwagon I will feel good, feel happy and be slim.

Now everyone around me is so slim I feel ever more aware of my size .

I want to state I exercise and do eat a healthy diet . I have just found after two babies and getting older unless I basically stick to 1200 calories a day I can’t maintain a size 12.
Ahhhhhh. Sorry for sounding so so so vain.

Apologies, can you explain what it means to you?

I’m not being rude, I genuinely thought I knew what it meant. To me, food noise is not being able to resist certain foods. I ended up overweight because I was mindlessly eating high sugar/high salt foods that I just couldn’t say no to. The foods were making me tired and sluggish and then I just craved more of them to get me through the day. I’d eat when I wasn’t hungry because it was there and I couldn’t resist.

I have found (over years) that cutting out high sugar/high salt foods (basically the same things that we now call UPF) really helps me to say no to food I don’t need to eat, but there is still a consistent gnawing in the back of my head telling me to just have the food. I cope by eating big portions of whole foods and vegetables, but I could easily eat snacks constantly if I thought I’d get away with it. I rarely feel the same about an apple.

I appreciate I don’t suffer as badly as some because I am able to say no and keep myself in check. My understanding is the WLIs give people more control over saying ‘no’ to food they don’t need.

Actually, I have found MJ has killed my craving for booze, and that has been widely reported so they are now looking at as a possible treatment for alcoholism.

I know! It’s amazing.

Take it a step further. It doesn’t give me the control to say no. The thought never appears.

Yes there is no food noise because most people feel mildly sick on them... I can't imagine feeling like that ever again after sickness in pregnancy it caused me massive anxiety. I've had friends feeling really rubbish, sick etc one waking up in the night shitting themselves... out of about 10 people I know 2 have had no symptoms with the others having as above.

That's enough to put me off without the unknown side effects (which if you are obese probably counteract other complications of that but if you don't need to loose much who knows what inner damage you are doing for a quick fix)

No, most people don't feel mildly sick for long. That's not how they work, or how they are intended to work.

This is a bit like the plastic surgery thing, isn't it?

I finally get why these jabs cause resentment for "cheating".

I'm on them. After literally 20 years of yoyo dieting and continually putting weight back on. I've tried everything, even overeaters anonymous.

For me, these are life-changing. I've broken the self-destructive cycle of dieting then bingeing that my "biological make up" conpeks me to do. Along with the other 95% of people who put all the weight back on after a diet. I'm a size 16, down from 22. I no longer have pre-diabetes. (I paid for them myself not NHS)

However, I get that perhaps if these jabs aren't last resort, but become the norm, we are all back into an arms race of pursuing physical perfection. And suddenly everyone feels they have to take them, even to get down from a "normal" size.

It's like we can't win 😕

TheMorels · 03/03/2025 18:49

I’ve not had a single side effect and I’ve not heard any of the people I know on mounjaro say they’ve had any either. In fact, people talk about how better they feel generally - aches and pains gone, anxiety abated etc.

There’s a little faction on here that are inexplicably peeved about people using GLPs to lose weight easily. They’re the ones that will talk about hideous side-effects, ‘ozempic face’ and, gleefully, ‘piling the weight back on’.

Sorry I meant to quote @SnacklessWonder but messed it up - original here…

Many people are talking about ‘food noise’ - all this junk food has us craving and addicted. I love junk food, but the less I eat, the less I find myself a slave to it
You don't understand food noise. It's not about junk food for starters.

Oh, wow, amazing, we have an answer to obesity epidemic. Now, tell me, should I drink the magical weighloss litre of water before or after my usual 2-3L that I've been drinking for years?

Bitter much?! It’s worked for me and a lot of other people and im proud of myself for that. Maybe there are people who read my comment, give it a go, and it works for them too. Im working really hard to lose the weight, I never said ‘magic’ water was doing it all for me but it helps me. Im also sticking to a calorie controlled diet.

Tbf I’m on them and think they are amazing but I’ve had absolutely hideous side effects. A lot of people do. I think we are in the minority but a significant minority nonetheless. The months I don’t have the side effects I do feel amazing though.

Mightymoog · 03/03/2025 18:00

but once you have been on the injections for a while you are no longer obese.
Then you are just taking them to stop overeating, which isn't a medical condition

You need them to maintain your chronic obesity which is a medical condition. The reasons for chronic obesity are complex and vary from person to person.

Just bide your time

Watch and wait and see what happens to the others before you dive in

They may end up piling it all back on when they stop injecting

You’re letting the side down…

The correct phrase is ‘they’ll end up pulling it all back on and more

🙄

HeavyHeidi · 03/03/2025 18:56

Posters really think people on MJ have not previously tried to lose weight by eating less, drinking water and taking brisk walks?

SilenceInside · 03/03/2025 19:07

@restingbitchface30 if it was the solution it would be well known and well used. Water is obviously much cheaper than medication after all. I think every obese person who has ever tried to lose weight has been told to drink more water and stick to a calorie controlled diet. It's clearly not effective to simply suggest that to people.

Ah, no, the correct terminology is "they'll end up piling it back on, and more" isn't it? [checks bingo card]

On mounjaro I had horrible side effects - racing heart, terrible anxiety, sleeplessness and nausea/diarrhea. I had to give it up after 4 weeks. A minority of people certainly do get nasty side effects, just like any drug.

SnacklessWonder · 03/03/2025 19:20

Obesity is a chronic disease for some. Not all.

I was obese. I know why. It's not because I have a chronic disease.

I am very aware of that. The difference between is I am not sitting here saying don’t do that take the shot. I am saying that for a multitude of people (myself included) after a life time of fighting disordered eating we have found something that actually works. And it does. My entire approach to food is completely reframed. It is not hard work. It is life without disordered eating. Just like taking an anti depressant for millions is life without depression. Drink water to an obese person is like saying to someone depressed “go for a walk”.

Arraminta · 03/03/2025 19:25

Can we also add "track marks" to the Official Bingo Card, too please? Even though, you know, it's actually physically impossible to get track marks from 4mm sub-dermal needles. But hey, why let little things like facts get in the way of some salacious hand-rubbing.

Trouble is when you work in hospitality or a care home how do you cope How will the employer or indeed service users know whether its the side effect of this or a tummy bug
