To be jealous of everyone getting slim in weight loss jabs while I get fatter !

Okay - lighthearted ? Maybe.

I’ve been lucky to grow up and be a size 10 . Had a baby at 27. Lost all the weight but my body changed. Baby 2 , again gained 4 stone but I’ve always kept the last stone. I am now 12/14 uk.

I work full time and have two children . I eat healthy for the most part and walk and exercise. When I am super strict which feels so much harder at 40 I am a size 12 but unlike in my 30s it seems so much harder to lose weight now . I feel crap in my clothes and I wish and dream of being a size 10. Call me pathetic !

My brother and his wife , twos sisters and their husbands , work colleagues and a few of my good friends who were never obese but had a few stone to lose are all taking weight loss jabs. They have all lost around 2/3/4 stone and are all now looking fab . All the women are now in size 8 jeans and I am jealous. I sound pathetic . None of these ladies were any bigger than a 14/16 to start with.

I totally understand these jabs are so life changing for so many people who need them but it seems in my life everyone has taken them and gone from a 14/16 to a size 8/6 size Uk and I can’t help but feel like if I just bloody jump on the bandwagon I will feel good, feel happy and be slim.

Now everyone around me is so slim I feel ever more aware of my size .

I want to state I exercise and do eat a healthy diet . I have just found after two babies and getting older unless I basically stick to 1200 calories a day I can’t maintain a size 12.
Ahhhhhh. Sorry for sounding so so so vain.

You do know that on the jabs you still only get to eat c1200 calories? It’s not a magic potion.

There’s no recommended calorie intake on the jab. It doesn’t work like that.

YABVU. Take the pills if you want to and if you don’t mind the risks. Or enjoy your perfectly healthy and attractive slightly larger size. Or diet. Don’t waste energy on pointless envy.

What pills?!

Lentilweaver · 02/03/2025 08:38

I expect we are going to see a lot of Ozempic envy as everyone starts taking them.

Tbf to OP being size 14/16 is not a medical issue.

I am also curious how they managed to get the jabs anyway at that sizes

Exactly. The WLI are a life changing medication for people with a health condition. People with a couple of stone to lose are being ridiculous and mean spirited with all of this jealousy crap.

I wouldn’t want to touch those injections with a barge pole. There are all sorts of health implications. Maybe I am being biased. I have had gallstone pancreatitis before, and was seriously ill. These injections can affect your pancreas and that is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy

So does being obese.

Presumably they're just paying for them?

I know, I’m on them. The OP references 1200 cals is what she needs to lose. They work by consuming a level of calories you need to lose. (As it happens 1200 is also roughly what I eat on average daily, although I don’t religiously count on MJ).

I am so happy for people to take them who need it . I am saying people around me are using them to just lose a few stone instead of dieting and I’m wondering if I should just do the same as I am so envious of their slim figures. They are all buying the jabs online. So they aren’t perscribed.

OP, as a pp said, people often believe they are eating healthily when they're not.

I'm a size 10 and I'm 49 years old. I lost a stone and a half 3 years ago eating around 1600 calories a day more quickly than I'd ever have achieved it eating 1200 calories a day. I'm always full, much reduced appetite and no whatever this 'food noise' is.

I think the jabs are brilliant for those who need them. But there seem to be an increasing number of people who want to use then to get rid of a stone.

Genevieva · 02/03/2025 08:42

I had no idea so many people were on weight loss jabs. Personally, unless there is a clinical reason, I’d rather not be an early adopter. But I do understand your frustration with your body.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 02/03/2025 08:42

MJMaude · 02/03/2025 08:29

Do you resent people receiving medication for other health conditions OP?

OP wasn’t talking about people who are serious obese due to medical conditions which are no fault of their own. She’s talking about her friends and family who have got a bit porky from over eating and lack of exercise and are using the jabs as an easy fix.

OP you have three choices.

Take the jabs yourself.

try a different diet plan you haven’t tried before and up your exercise.

accept you for who you are. A size 12 is fine but it’s how you feel about it yourself. I get it as I don’t like the way I look at a size 12.

You still have to qualify for a prescription from a private doctor to be able to pay for them.

OP what is your BMI? You may not qualify for them anyway (your size 14-16 friends probably did)

ItisIbeserk · 02/03/2025 08:42

I wouldn’t touch any WL meds without a prescription. They’ll be compounds with any old shit in them. This is the stuff that will land people in hospital.

They need to be prescribed regardless.

Aliceinwonder1 · 02/03/2025 08:43

Agree with all of this, seems everyone is doing it! I wish I could but my husband is really concerned about side effects etc and financial implications too. However I've been told it gets rid of the food noise and that sounds like a dream not to have!

Assuming you are in the UK they are still prescribed. Typically you need to send a full body photo in tight clothing, and a picture of your feet on scales showing your weight but not necessarily the dumbbell or weight jacket tipping your BMI over 30

edited for clarity

ladymammalade · 02/03/2025 08:44

When you say they have to be prescribed, is this where you just log in to boots or whatever website and tick a few boxes, and they get approved by a doctor?

Ilovethatbear · 02/03/2025 08:44

They are prescribed if buying online from a proper pharmacy.

You say your relatives had “two, three, four stone to lose “ So they are quite possibly obese at the outset.

I don’t understand your envy, given the fact you say you don’t want to take this medication. It’s like saying you don’t want to take HRT but are really envious of friends who take it and don’t suffer menopause symptoms any longer.

thebear1 · 02/03/2025 08:44

YANBU, I feel similar, bmi 27 and constantly trying to lose and thinking about food. But I don't have the budget for the jabs so will continue trying to improve diet.

arcticpandas · 02/03/2025 08:45

I am tempted to get the jabs as well. But with a bmi of 20 I don't think I can get them even if I pay for them? I just feel it's a pain to be hungry and have to eat. I rather eat when I want to without being hungry as it seem you can on mounjaro. Like if I'm hungry at 11 I just have to eat, I can't wait until 12-13 which is a bummer if you're invited somewhere. With Mounjaro this wouldn't be an issue so I'm jealous, yes.

MinnieCoops · 02/03/2025 08:45

Best thing I've done for myself in years. I am very grateful to the jabs.

If anyone needs a £40 off your first pen discount code please DM me, it's honestly been life changing to lose 3 stone.

OP, do some research and if you want to try them then go for it.

Nothanksiwillwalk · 02/03/2025 08:45

I feel your pain and I took mounjaro and lost 4 stone.

I now am that person who still calorie counts and exercises like a demon to keep in maintenance (I was cut off by my prescriber at a healthy bmi - they didn't do maintenance plans).

I'm 6 months in from stopping the meds and have maintained my weight but the calories in v calories out balance is brutal and I know I have to do this for life (which I will!).

I would love an affordable maintenance plan but am instead trying to embrace the slog of keeping my healthy bmi.

You do know that on the jabs you still only get to eat c1200 calories? It’s not a magic potion.

Is that all it is then? You get to eat 1200 cals but have no 'food noise'? If so, I could probably train my stomach with a bit of effort not to expect my admittedly large portions at every meal. After 4 days, I'd be in the zone and stop craving as many carbs and big meals.

scorchedwitch · 02/03/2025 08:46

Low carb diets remove food noise.

A great alternative and there is a low carb section on MN here:

ChanelBoucle · 02/03/2025 08:47

Do these jabs raise metabolism or simply stop you from wanting to eat? How to they help people who are already on a strict and disciplined diet that struggle to lose weight?
