To be jealous of everyone getting slim in weight loss jabs while I get fatter !

Okay - lighthearted ? Maybe.

I’ve been lucky to grow up and be a size 10 . Had a baby at 27. Lost all the weight but my body changed. Baby 2 , again gained 4 stone but I’ve always kept the last stone. I am now 12/14 uk.

I work full time and have two children . I eat healthy for the most part and walk and exercise. When I am super strict which feels so much harder at 40 I am a size 12 but unlike in my 30s it seems so much harder to lose weight now . I feel crap in my clothes and I wish and dream of being a size 10. Call me pathetic !

My brother and his wife , twos sisters and their husbands , work colleagues and a few of my good friends who were never obese but had a few stone to lose are all taking weight loss jabs. They have all lost around 2/3/4 stone and are all now looking fab . All the women are now in size 8 jeans and I am jealous. I sound pathetic . None of these ladies were any bigger than a 14/16 to start with.

I totally understand these jabs are so life changing for so many people who need them but it seems in my life everyone has taken them and gone from a 14/16 to a size 8/6 size Uk and I can’t help but feel like if I just bloody jump on the bandwagon I will feel good, feel happy and be slim.

Now everyone around me is so slim I feel ever more aware of my size .

I want to state I exercise and do eat a healthy diet . I have just found after two babies and getting older unless I basically stick to 1200 calories a day I can’t maintain a size 12.
Ahhhhhh. Sorry for sounding so so so vain.

You’ll get flamed OP but to be honest I feel the same.

Diningtableornot · 02/03/2025 08:22

YABVU. Take the pills if you want to and if you don’t mind the risks. Or enjoy your perfectly healthy and attractive slightly larger size. Or diet. Don’t waste energy on pointless envy.

Coldwatergloves · 02/03/2025 08:23

Same here. I am only a bit overweight but I have so much food noise and feel awful if I cut down enough to lose weight. I can maintain at a 12/14 but even then I'm constantly thinking about food.

Lentilweaver · 02/03/2025 08:23

I am menopausal and a size 12 after being an 8 all my life. I eat like a bird and exercise like a demon but still have the menopausal belly. Also had 2 DC.

Not jealous of jab users. The benefits for people who are not obese are minimal, afaik. And the side effects are intense.

I am occasionally jealous of people who don't have shitty Asian diabetes genes!

100 % agree

I wonder every day if I should just order he jabs.

Lentilweaver · 02/03/2025 08:25

OP, why don't you just get the jabs then?

Dreamerinme · 02/03/2025 08:26

Have a look at the Fast800 eating plan - high protein, low carb - you don’t have to calorie count necessarily given that your weight must be pretty normal at a size 12, but the principles of it may help you drop those last few kilos that you want to.

Also, what some people call a ‘healthy’ diet is often based on outdated notions. Eating lots of fruit may provide vitamins and be better than a chocolate bar, but fruit is still full of sugar. A high fibre seeded bread or sourdough etc might sound and be healthier that a bog standard supermarket bread but it’s still high carb and won’t help weight loss. Michael Mosley’s Fast800 plans do give a good guide to better eating for health.

FatGirlLosing · 02/03/2025 08:26

You do know that on the jabs you still only get to eat c1200 calories? It’s not a magic potion.

romdowa · 02/03/2025 08:28

My father took ozempic for diabetes and he was never so sick , even after stopping it took months for his gastric system to come right again. After seeing how sick it make him personally I'd never touch them and I'd rather be a bit fat

The thing is - everyone ( that i know ) say they have no food noise and it is a struggle to even eat 1200. Of course I can’t speak for everyone on these jabs but the whole point is you don’t feel hunger and the food noise so you can eat the 1200 calories.

Do you resent people receiving medication for other health conditions OP?

OP, why don't you just get the jabs then?

In my head i suppose I

  1. Worry that there must be long term side effects we aren’t aware of ?
  2. Worry I will then have to take them for life . Which concerns me medically and financially
  3. I have this dream/ hope I can get on a diet and stick to it and lose a stone naturally !!!!

In my twenties and 30s I could lose weight quite easily - now it seems so hard!!

Tbf to OP being size 14/16 is not a medical issue.

I am also curious how they managed to get the jabs anyway at that sizes

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 02/03/2025 08:33

The thing is, you can absolutely be clinically obese with only 2-3 stone to lose. I’m 5’2”. It’s 2 stone difference between a healthy BMI and an obese one. As I’m short, I can be obese and still in a size 12-14. It doesn’t sound to me like your family members are gaming the system or anything like that to get the jabs. And if they qualify for them, then why not?

capybaraqueen · 02/03/2025 08:33

OP I don't live in the uk and where I am you can very simply walk into a pharmacy and buy mounjaro over the counter. You can even WhatsApp them and have it delivered. As a result EVERYONE here is on it.

I've watched friends and colleagues use it to shift a stone and have been so envious.

Like you I was always slim. I work out 5-6 times a week; walk everywhere, watch every mouthful. Food noise is DEAFENING.

I wanted to shift 5 kg so guess what? I succumbed to the jabs two weeks ago.

Absolutely life changing!!!! Food noise gone along with appetite. I'll use it for a month and then I'm done.

Absolutely ZERO side effects. None. I'm still training hard, feel great, eating healthily, BUT no sugar bingeing in the evenings and small portions. AND NO FOOD NOISE!

Totally prepared to get flamed as I wasn't obese to begin with but honestly I've been the model eater and exercise all my life and I wanted to switch all the noise off so I could lose an annoying 5kg. No regrets here!

custardcream73 · 02/03/2025 08:34

I wouldn’t want to touch those injections with a barge pole. There are all sorts of health implications. Maybe I am being biased. I have had gallstone pancreatitis before, and was seriously ill. These injections can affect your pancreas and that is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy

heroinechic · 02/03/2025 08:34

YANBU I'm jealous too! I wanted to give them a try after struggling with weight for some time but I was still breastfeeding (breastfed until 17 months) and got pregnant again while breastfeeding so I've probably got another year and half until I can give them a go.

I'm absolutely delighted for my friends who are using them though! They are happier, healthier, more confident and for one in particular it has really changed her life. I just wish I could be taking part too, but instead while they're getting smaller I'm getting larger (currently 29 weeks pregnant!)

That’s right (I’m on them). I started at a size 14 (very similar story to you) and have lost 8kg in just over two months. No side effects. I ate healthily and exercised frequently but trying to calorie count etc just took up too much space in my head around a very high pressure job, kids etc.

I highly recommend giving them a go.

oh wait till your 50s! I think a certain amount of acceptance is needed.
Wishing you looked like you did in your 20s is pointless.
Unfortunately for me I have diabetes in the family so I can never go above a size 12 or a BMI 24. It is what it is.

Yes but they also reduce your appetite/food noise which for me in the hardest part. I don’t like being hungry.

Hi , I do hear you . I am quite simply jealous! They aren’t gaming the system and they are all paying for these jabs. The same way i could . The truth is I am abit scared to do it . But watching them all shrink as I struggle I am simply envious !

Even on the jabs if I eat 1200 a day I put on weight. I walk 15 to 20k steps a day, swim 3 times a week, thyroid is within NHS limits.
