To be jealous of everyone getting slim in weight loss jabs while I get fatter !

Sundayslump · 02/03/2025 08:18

Okay - lighthearted ? Maybe.

I’ve been lucky to grow up and be a size 10 . Had a baby at 27. Lost all the weight but my body changed. Baby 2 , again gained 4 stone but I’ve always kept the last stone. I am now 12/14 uk.

I work full time and have two children . I eat healthy for the most part and walk and exercise. When I am super strict which feels so much harder at 40 I am a size 12 but unlike in my 30s it seems so much harder to lose weight now . I feel crap in my clothes and I wish and dream of being a size 10. Call me pathetic !

My brother and his wife , twos sisters and their husbands , work colleagues and a few of my good friends who were never obese but had a few stone to lose are all taking weight loss jabs. They have all lost around 2/3/4 stone and are all now looking fab . All the women are now in size 8 jeans and I am jealous. I sound pathetic . None of these ladies were any bigger than a 14/16 to start with.

I totally understand these jabs are so life changing for so many people who need them but it seems in my life everyone has taken them and gone from a 14/16 to a size 8/6 size Uk and I can’t help but feel like if I just bloody jump on the bandwagon I will feel good, feel happy and be slim.

Now everyone around me is so slim I feel ever more aware of my size .

I want to state I exercise and do eat a healthy diet . I have just found after two babies and getting older unless I basically stick to 1200 calories a day I can’t maintain a size 12.
Ahhhhhh. Sorry for sounding so so so vain.

You have my sympathies. I took Tamoxifen for 3 years and the side effects were brutal. For me it was the chronic bloating, fatigue and joint pain.

I hope you’re doing ok now. Apparently I have to take it for ten years, which sounds like such a long time!

L0309 · 02/03/2025 20:50

I’ve used the jabs a few times.

I always regain the weight once I stop using them and they make me very tired and irritable.

my neighbour was recently taken to hospital because she couldn’t stop throwing after her first jab.

please don’t think it’s just an easy way to lose weight it’s really not.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/03/2025 20:52

"The thing is, why is a size 8 the aspiration? Surely at 12/14 you look good unless You're less than 5ft tall in which case get some heels!!"

A lot of short people look better at smaller sizes. Yes, you can argue that in different time periods and in different parts of the world, slim isn't the ideal, but in our culture it is. It also depends how the fat is distributed on your body.

It obviously is for some people.

I've been taking Mounjaro for 6 weeks and have lost 1 stone & 7 pounds. It has honestly changed my life after trying everything. I am 49 and was slim until 43 ... just couldn't stick at any diet, tried fasting etc. Zero side effects. I'm really enjoying feeling nice again and agreeing to go to things instead of hiding away.

You’ve used the jabs a few times, with long enough gaps between each time to regain all the weight? Even though they have only been available for weight loss for the last year or so? Interesting.

Ben Bikman, possibly other sources but I can’t remember. I know not everyone agrees with his approach but I do think he will be citing genuine research.

Geniune question. Does this mean diabetics come off it after two years too?

What do they move to?

Yes, thank you. I thought long and hard and decided to stop taking it early (only meant to be on it for 5 years) after speaking with my oncologist. There's a lot of heart disease and strokes in my family and Tamoxifen is known to increase your risk of both. So the risks of Tamoxifen outweighed the benefits (it only gave me an extra 0.5% of protection from reoccurance over 15 years).

You might find that the side effects settle down for you in time? And it's worth knowing that if you're struggling with any vaginal atrophy symptoms that localized estrogen is perfectly safe to use. Hope you're okay x

ZenNudist · 02/03/2025 21:03

Dont be sold the food noise BS. WLI are a short term fix which fuck your metabolism and increase the set weight your body thinks is safe.

Get some willpower. I think your problem is you're not fat enough. You are a healthy weight. Give it a few years, and you'll get a bit heavier and maybe get the willpower to diet. You might even justify the jab to yourself.

The problem is that the jabs are not a great idea. Particularly for someone like yourself who could do it slow and steady. They will only work long term if you keep taking them and who knows how buggered your metabolism will be by then. Be prepared to balloon if you stop WLI.

I'm a few years older and have resorted to fast 800. I'm doing a diet in stages. I'm 10kg down. Eventually you do have to weigh yourself regularly and keep on top of it or you get big again.

WLI are great for those people who need bariatric surgery and are huge. Not so good for everyone else who could just restrict calories and acquire good habits.

OP you say you want to lose a stone naturally, and trust me you can. Losing one or two stone is literally nothing unless you have a complicating medical factor. Get the GP to check your blood sugar and thyroid, and if normal then start to make sustainable changes and the weight will come off. It’s all about the long game. For most people regain is the issue.

It clearly isn't very easy for everyone, is it?
From looking at friends and acquaintances, it seems impossible for quite a few people after menopause.

Itdoesntmatteranyway · 02/03/2025 21:04

I have recently bought MJ. I’ve taken my second dose today.
Im late 40’s, BMI 28.
I bought online; had to submit my vital stats and a photo. Clearly I looked fat enough in the photo because it was approved within minutes! I also had to give my GP details and they say they inform them.
I’m only going to do a month. I’m worrying about the side effects a lot (my DH is furious and convinced I’m going to die, so far I’ve just had a bit of diahorrea and been totally knackered) but I’m using it to try to understand what I need to eat, rather than what I want to eat. It might not work, in that case I’ve basically just lost £120.

Ingridmous3 · 02/03/2025 21:05

Sounds more like they may be receiving chemo... Weight loss injection are subcutaneous, usually lower belly or front of thighs.

Okay so I want to say. My siblings are getting the jabs from Superdrug. No illegally. If they are lying about their statistics then I wouldn’t be suprised.
Ive had anorexia, bulimia which flared up awfully whilst pregnant . I spend all day abs every day thinking about food. I hate my body. So yes I might sound pathetic and maybe I should read the room but going to the gym and eating less is not fixing me . So maybe you could stop being judgemental and rude.

With a history of eating disorders when the information is shared with GP you will get turned down.

Quite. Aesthetics.

Pharmacists are still prescribing these drugs for exactly the same clinical reasons as GPs are - obesity (and all the risks to health that come alongside that clinical condition). "Aesthetics" are merely a happy side effect of weight loss... Research shows multiple benefits from "Weight Loss Jabs"

No actually you are right, I should have expressed myself differently. I was thinking more of OP specifically being younger. Although as someone with a vast amount to lose, it still sounds good to me…I have lost that amount many times in the past. That is the main issue for me anyway, regain plus more.

She is if she has other health issues, and what do you mean a month 'won't work' - clearly it is working, as it works for many people in the first month.

I don’t know the full details, as I have said. However if I had to guess I would say that he is not talking about people taking it for diabetes. I think he said he had always been less conflicted about the drug when used for diabetes as the dose was lower, and the difference in dose is the key to his concerns.

People are unlikely to be taking the full dose long term for maintenance.

Hmm, a month might well work, depending on how much she wants to lose. Based on my experience, my appetite stayed very reduced for around 2/3 weeks afterwards too, so I kept losing.

The less you have to lose, the less you can eat. You have to be very careful with everything. A very large person who overeats can more easily cut down. I know that there are other factors making it difficult for large people such as emotional issues with food, but in terms of just eating fewer calories it's actually easier for them than for medium or chubby people, isn't it?

Jins · 02/03/2025 21:21

He might be talking about Wegovy. That has a two year limit I think. Mounjaro can be taken for life. I think they decided that based on the 20 years of data they have
