To ask if your pet sleeps on your bed?

I don't mind my cat sleeping on my bed at all, but sometimes in the night she'll jump on my stomach and wake me up, or will lick my face to check I'm still alive!
This morning I evicted her at around 4am because she'd jumped on my stomach or back at least 4 times! As I say I'm happy for her to sleep there but I can't have the disturbed sleep long-term. Anyone else?

Only during the day time! He has his 'own room' (the kitchen!) at night.

The only exceptions to this in the past have been once they get elderly (and so are far quieter).

Yuck! Hell no!

I value my sleep and haven't got time to wash sheets on a daily basis.

(I'm assuming those who do let their dogs sleep in their beds do daily sheet washing?!?!?!)

No, life is too short to be washing sheets every day. Nothing bad ever happened to me for not doing so.
My dog sleeps on her own blanket on top of my bed.

Cow90 · 02/03/2025 11:36

I think when you have a pet, the trade off is that there will be pet hair in your home, even if you clean daily.

I lint roll my bedding often.

My cat jumped on my stomach a few times when he was a kitten (a 4+ kg kitten!), so painful. He also used to wake me up by kneading my belly and purring. Very cute but not workable long term.

Whenever your cat wakes you up, calmly pick her up and shut her outside your bedroom without saying a word to her.

I did this with my cat consistently and he very quickly learned not to disturb the slave. He lies/sleeps silently at the bottom of my bed all night.

Another thing I'd recommend is not giving her breakfast as soon as you get up. Give it to her about 30 mins after, once you've had a coffee etc so she knows that waking you up won't lead to an immediate reward.

During the day yes, but at night both cats sleep in the utility room, I like undisturbed sleep.

Wtf, that’s hilarious. Of course not.
He has his own blanket, he’s not on my bedding, it’s only dog hair, and I could not be bothered with that 😆

But NOT in your bed or on your sofa!

Me too, and I love climbing into my clean sanctuary of a bed every night. Dog hair free!

No one is letting their pets sleep in your bed or on your sofa 😆

ilovesooty · 02/03/2025 12:39

Little cat sleeps on my feet or cuddled up behind my knees. Big cat sleeps on his own little cat sofa next to the bed. Neither of them disturb me in the night and big cat wanders up to sit on my chest when he hears my alarm go off in the morning.

Vaxtable · 02/03/2025 12:51

Yep, my little dog starts off in the bed, then when she gets hot moves herself out and onto the top of the bed, I sleep through it

Each to their own. It would give me the absolute ick.

And that’s totally fair.

It just gives me the ick. I find it repulsive.

Don’t do it then 😂

LadyNairne · 02/03/2025 16:55

No dogs upstairs or on any furniture. We’ve always trained them with this rule since they were puppies. I really feel disgusted if I have to sit on a sofa where a dogs bum has been. And I hate the idea of sleeping in a dog bed. It’s the combination of dog hair and saliva and bums and paws, that grosses me out, and where they’ve all been.

Ive only ever had larger breeds of dogs so maybe small lapdogs are different. Cats I’ve never owned so maybe they’re different too. I really love animals but they have their place in my world! (eg, the entire downstairs to roam at night, and at least 3 dog beds each to sleep on)

JJMama · 02/03/2025 17:59

Yes my cat sleeps on my bed. He rarely wakes me up though. He’ll just curl up in the curve of my legs on top of the bed, or sometimes if it’s really cold he’ll snuggle under the duvet. I’m honoured he’s comfortable enough to do this. 😽

DisabledDemon · 02/03/2025 18:13

Two cats and a small dog on the bed and we all sleep like logs - although it's a good thing that the retriever doesn't want to join us as well or DH and I would have to sleep on the floor!

catlover123456789 · 02/03/2025 18:24

I used to let the cats sleep with me but then one of the younger ones started using the carpet as a toilet and that was the end of that, they are locked downstairs at night now. I kind of miss the cuddles but I also appreciate the uninterrupted sleep. And the cats are fine downstairs.

Littlepiggietoes · 02/03/2025 18:34

My cat sleeps on mine or the kids beds in the day. At night she’s either in the kitchen or the garden, she’s a rescue and still absolutely feral, she can’t be trusted to have full room access at night as she scratches faces, attacks feet etc. The only exception is if I’m poorly (migraine sufferer). She’ll sleep with me and stay with me good as gold until she senses that I’m getting better, at which point she’ll bite my feet and get thrown out of the room.
I love her so much though, and wouldn’t change her for the world. She was obviously mistreated when she was small, and has massive trust issues. Last week she fell asleep on me on the sofa in the evening and I felt so honoured that she was letting me stroke her belly, an area that usually gets your hand bitten!

Scarlettdewinter · 02/03/2025 19:17

2 cats. One sleeps under the covers between me and hubby, the other next to my leg at my other side. Absolutely fine until I need to get up to pee, or start having night sweats. My mother (who thinks she's Hyacinth Bucket) is totally horrified at even the thought of it!

TigerRag · 02/03/2025 19:21

Parents dog sleeps upstairs. I don't trust her to sleep in my room (I once woke up to find her stood on me just staring at me!) at night

Tryonemoretime · 02/03/2025 19:30

I loved our cat and adored our dog, but they always slept on the kitchen with the door shut (when our dog was a puppy, I half slept in the kitchen with her until she settled down). Doesn't anyone with an animal sharing their bed worry about fleas and ticks setting up home under their duvet? Our pets were regularly treated, but even so, I found an occasional tick on both of them. I'd love another cat or dog, but they'd be confined to their own beds at night!

TheMauveBeaker · 02/03/2025 19:32

Our various cats over the years have always gone out at night. They’ve always had shelter of some kind - the last one had a small kennel with pillows and blankets inside. I wouldn’t be able to relax if we’d let them sleep inside, let alone on our bed 😂

AliAtHome · 02/03/2025 19:57

My cat sleeps on our bed (if she wants to) most nights - isn’t that the point? I love it it, and her, but she doesn’t disturb us and does her own thing if disturb her.
