To ask if your pet sleeps on your bed?

I don't mind my cat sleeping on my bed at all, but sometimes in the night she'll jump on my stomach and wake me up, or will lick my face to check I'm still alive!
This morning I evicted her at around 4am because she'd jumped on my stomach or back at least 4 times! As I say I'm happy for her to sleep there but I can't have the disturbed sleep long-term. Anyone else?

You just train them not to and give them plenty of comfy spaces of their own..If we had dogs we would not let them either.

Ok. But are you there in shifts 24/7? Because I pretty much guarantee a cat will go where it’s not supposed to.

caringcarer · 01/03/2025 21:13

My dogs and cats have their own beds blankets and a heated pad each for the winter and a cool pad in the summer. All down stairs in the sitting room, dining room and kitchen.

BellaVita · 01/03/2025 21:14

Yes she does 😆. Sometimes under the cover - she spoons me 🙄😆. She is 12 years old and only 7kg, a dinky dog, but by god does she take up the most room!

Here she is wanting tummy tickles.

A question for those with pets in their bed and who also share that bed with a partner: how do you stop it impacting your sex life? Do you shut the pet out and bring them in later?

Our dog doesn’t share our bed, but has different beds around the house to choose from.

Oh the things my dog has seen!

I haven't had a partner in years. My cat matters much more than a person. I had what was going to be a drunken one night stand a few years ago and he PUSHED my cat off the bed and was rude about him - I immediately lost the mood and kicked him out of the house (the bloke, not the cat).

stargirl1701 · 01/03/2025 21:19

No. Ddog sleeps in the kitchen and has done since the first day we brought her home.

Orangebadger · 01/03/2025 21:19

Cat yes, sleeps at my feet. Dog would love to but no way. I would be woken at 5am with a face wash!!

Yep and crates are barbaric. Anyone who uses a (locked) crate is not a dog person at all and has no empathy.

Oh get a grip, crates are necessary sometimes and anyone who fails to prep their dog to spend time in a crate (gradually, at the dogs pace, using no force and no distress) is setting their dog up for major distress if they need to travel in one, stay at the vets for any length of time without the owner, or recover from surgery/injury in one, and many surgeries/injuries do require strict crate rest.

Locking a dog in a crate without training them to associate the crate with rest and rewards is unkind and dogs should not spend long periods in them outside the above situations, but to claim ALL crate use is barbaric is horribly narrow-minded and ignorant!

My dog (terrier) sleeps on/in my bed. Made it very clear to DH years ago that dog is #1 to me 😂 older boy was there before DH before we lost him age 16, and then he lasted a week before he said it doesn't feel right without a pup snuggled up 😂 she's clean as she goes in the sea daily, and she is right at the bottom of the bed. Sheets get changed weekly, at least, so 🤷, they are family to us

Southwestten · 01/03/2025 21:26

Both our dogs sleep on or in our bed and sometimes the parrot roosts on the bed head.
However they are whippets so short haired. I’ve always wanted a Pomeranian which are fluffy, so if we get one I’m not so sure about one of those in the bed.

I had dogs all my life until a few years ago when I decided I just couldn’t commit to a new puppy. I NEVER let them sleep in/on my bed. The thought of a dog’s bare arsehole stamping itself where I sleep or next to my face makes me feel sick. My dogs were always treated like pets and that meant they weren’t allowed in certain rooms. Growing up our dogs weren’t even allowed upstairs. I don’t think they even knew upstairs existed 😂 my dogs as adults weren’t allowed on the sofa either. Thats where the humans sit.

Edited

Quite! I adore our dogs, they’re beloved members of our family. They also actively choose to eat shit sometimes - neither they, nor their unshowered arses are allowed on beds or sofas! They have their own extremely comfortable beds in the sitting rooms downstairs and the study upstairs

pinneddownbytabbies · 01/03/2025 21:28

What do you think?

StarDolphins · 01/03/2025 21:29

My dog sleeps on my bed & he’s so good, I carry him up, put him on & he goes straight to sleep & doesn’t move all night!

My cat has to stay downstaitlrs as she’s wake us up!

Mine loves her crate, it’s her safe safe. If she’s tired she will go in there of her own accord and snuggle down. I agree if they are unhappy in there it isn’t great, but with the right training it needed be bad.

Before you call me monster she takes up more of the bed at night than I do!

Living room door is shut at night. Eldest daughters (14 & 15)have high sleepers, youngest (9) has a safety gate on her door. We make sure. Its a preference for us. I don't judge others for their choices. My sister has a menagerie of pets who go wherever in her house. It's just our choice here in our home. Luckily our remaining cat is 14 so definitely prefers her own space anyway and has unfortunately lost the desire/ability to comfortably climb.

Lovelysummerdays · 01/03/2025 21:33

My lab sleeps with me she likes to press herself up against me so I often wake to find myself balancing on the last six inches.

I love her so I get out and walk round and hop in the other side.

TheGoogleMum · 01/03/2025 21:34

Yes, we have cats. They don't tend to sleep on it while we're in it though they do sometimes come visit us in the night!

Gettingbysomehow · 01/03/2025 21:38

My cats start off on the bed but get pissed off by my snoring and twitching and go off downstairs unless I have the electric blanket on, then they are glued to it.
One of them, the old girl is 15 so she sleeps where she wants.

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 01/03/2025 21:38

My cat keeps me awake if she's allowed in my bedroom. She's very busy, always up to something, and will cry for attention at FGS-in-the-morning. So she's shut out. During the day she can come in though.

Bellyblueboy · 01/03/2025 21:40

My cat sleeps on my pillow every night. She wakes me at 4am without fail!

I have tried keeping her downstairs but she howls so loudly she creates a bigger problem than a few head nuzzles and meows!!

Yeah, my cat wails if I try to shut him out of the bedroom. And he can open doors.

Where did you get your dog stairs? My terrier would love a set of steps as he can't get on the bed himself.

I bought them off Amazon. We have three sets I. The house for sofa and two of the beds. We have these ones but there are many others.

TrixieFatell · 01/03/2025 21:43

No. The cat and dog stay downstairs and are not allowed to go upstairs. It makes me feel yuk thinking of them being in my bed. They are allowed on the sofa but that doesn't feel yuk to me.

So they never sit with you 9n the sofa? Never jump up when you nip out?

28Fluctuations · 01/03/2025 21:45

No. [Shoves dog off bed with foot.] Never.
