I don't mind my cat sleeping on my bed at all, but sometimes in the night she'll jump on my stomach and wake me up, or will lick my face to check I'm still alive!
This morning I evicted her at around 4am because she'd jumped on my stomach or back at least 4 times! As I say I'm happy for her to sleep there but I can't have the disturbed sleep long-term. Anyone else?

My one dog sleeps up the top end of the bed with me as he barely moves all night. Couple of stealth turns, might ocasssionaly get a shove if I'm too close to the middle on my side and sometimes a back paw to the back or face. Gets wrapped up in his blanket but occasionally gets under the covers. The other one starts on the bed between my knees then combination of on the floor in his bed and back on my bed till the tv goes off with the occasional jump back on during the night depending on how he's feeling. Every night between 3 and 4 he gets under the covers between my knees for about an hour then back in his bed till I get up for work. I sleep poorly and wake multiple times in the night so the jumping up and down doesn't bother me. Gives me the opportunity to check they are warm enough and wrap them back up if necessary.

Yuck, no.

AllyDally · 02/03/2025 00:17

Mine do and I now get less sleep than when my kids were small. I was a soft touch wjen they were puppies and now really regret it.

Odras · 02/03/2025 00:23

Yes our rescue dog is a bag of nerves and very clingy and likes to cuddle up. If you asked me a few years ago I would have honestly thought it was so disgusting but I love him so much. He’s adorable and clingy because of his past so here we are.

HRTQueen · 02/03/2025 00:29

Yes my cat does day and night

she collapses on top of me (I sleep on my side) then snuggles in tightly she had to be close but not on top of me thankfully as she is quite chunky

dicdicnurse · 02/03/2025 00:36

Ddog sleeps on our bed and we wouldn't change it for the world. When we first brought him home we read so many books about puppy training etc but after 8 weeks of DH sleeping downstairs we realised that the only thing the puppy wanted was to be with us. We have all slept well since.

I live in Australia.
My cat brings LIVE VENOMOUS SNAKES
Into the house........
So, no!

ClassicBBQ · 02/03/2025 07:17

BBQ isn't allowed upstairs, so no. He has his own little sofa in the living room and is very happy there.

TangledandEmbrangled · 02/03/2025 07:45

Ddog is the first of our dogs to ever sleep on the bed, but he is tiny (4kg) very clean and doesn’t shed. He sleeps on top of one of his own blankets and under another and I barely know he’s there. He’s also extremely lazy in the mornings and doesn’t like being woken before 9.30 am at the absolute earliest! I find it comforting to have him there, especially when dh is working away.

In the past we’ve always had multiple large and giant breeds at the same time. They rarely came upstairs and weren’t allowed on the furniture, but had each other, lovely comfortable beds of their own and fleece house-coats for the winter. Some even got tucked in before we went to bed and all of them were very content.

When our last big dog was very elderly and on his own, dh and I took turns sleeping on the sofa near him for the last year. He needed company, but couldn’t have managed the stairs and would have been unsettled if we had changed his routine anyway.

salemcooper · 02/03/2025 07:47

My pup used to but then I got pregnant and needed more room. He adjusted very well to sleeping in a dog bed next to my bed.

Mumofyellows · 02/03/2025 08:03

Our Labrador slept in bed with us for almost the whole first year until we rescued a second dog and couldn't fit two big labs in the bed! They sleep downstairs together now, if DH goes away though I have them both in bed with me!

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 02/03/2025 08:07

Our cat does the rounds every night and kips with each of us in turn. It's sweet if you're the one she snuggles right down with when you go to bed.
It's less cute if it's your turn to get a bum in your face at 3am

DazedDragon · 02/03/2025 08:07

Yuck! Hell no!

I value my sleep and haven't got time to wash sheets on a daily basis.

(I'm assuming those who do let their dogs sleep in their beds do daily sheet washing?!?!?!)

Sgtmajormummy · 02/03/2025 08:28

It’s not unheard of for dogs and cats to catch fleas and for it to go unnoticed for days. What do you do if they spread to your bed covers? Or you?

Sleeping in a potential flea pit is not my idea of pet love.

Before DDog (mini Schnauzer) arrived we put all the beds on raisers and he has no idea he’s even capable of jumping onto the sofa.
He’s plenty comfortable with a camp bed, a dark crate (never locked) that’s his safe place and a donut cushion he moves around the house. It’s usually in the corner of the sofa for maximum strokes.

We had fireworks, helicopters, sirens, plane acrobatics and repeated cannon salutes yesterday.
He went in his crate and when things got beyond a joke, UNDER our bed.

Nope! Haven’t been killed by dog hair yet

In fairness ours is a short haired Jack Russell and very small and cute, so probably generates less mess than some larger breeds

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 02/03/2025 08:39

No. Cat will sometimes sleep on our bed during the day. Dog would if we were out and hadn't locked the bedroom door (he knows he's not allowed on the bed so he wouldn't do it of we were in!). Neither is allowed in our bedroom at night, because they would wake us up.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 02/03/2025 08:41

I've had cats for about 50 years and this has never happened. You give your pets regular anti-flea/tick protection.

silentpool · 02/03/2025 08:42

No, the cats don't have access to the bedroom part of the house. They are nocturnal and noisy which doesn't work for sleeping. I also think it's unhygienic.

Gumbo · 02/03/2025 08:45

I have one cat who sleeps on my legs, and a few times a night will creep up to purr by my face to remind me that she's still happy.
And a hefty ginger boy who appears at some point every night, and sneaks onto my pillow where he wraps himself around my head like a bloody turban - and astonishingly I never notice this happen as he's so gentle!

I've long since accepted that this is where they want to be, and I'm fine with it😊

maudelovesharold · 02/03/2025 08:51

Our cat sleeps on our bed (or any other bed he can gain access to!) during the day, but definitely not when we’re in it, because he takes over! The only time I’ve allowed it, when he was recovering from a GA, dh and I ended up at the outer limits of the bed, with the cat having the best sleep of his life, sprawled out across what felt like the full width. Was awful for us!

It just gives me the ick. I find it repulsive.

aCatCalledFawkes · 02/03/2025 08:56

My cats during the day yes, at night no they go in the kitchen as there are PITA if they are out all night.

Yes, cat is a lovely but annoying alarm clock. This morning she wanted me to get up and feed her so she lay on my neck. Amazingly uncomfortable.

Starlight40 · 02/03/2025 09:01

I can't lie on my back in case my 4 cats do this. We do have 1 cat that sleeps under the covers between us. I love it when he does that.x
