I don't mind my cat sleeping on my bed at all, but sometimes in the night she'll jump on my stomach and wake me up, or will lick my face to check I'm still alive!
This morning I evicted her at around 4am because she'd jumped on my stomach or back at least 4 times! As I say I'm happy for her to sleep there but I can't have the disturbed sleep long-term. Anyone else?

How do yo7 stop them getting on any furniture? Is someone there to stop them 24/7? Do you sleep in shifts? I don’t think cats and their letter are necessarily more ‘germy’ than dogs and pavements, incidentally.

You just train them not to and give them plenty of comfy spaces of their own..If we had dogs we would not let them either.

Cathod · 01/03/2025 20:53

I stopped the cats sleeping on the beds after I found 3 dead fleas on the bed. The cats are given flea treatment monthly. If husband had his way he would sleep spooning his favourite cat.

Youbutterbelieve · 01/03/2025 20:54

Not at night.

I don't have an issue with animals on my bed, they sleep on it in the day (I have a bedspread for this exact purpose!). But they don't sleep on it overnight, they disturb me too much. Dog sleeps in the utility room and the cats sleep wherever they can find, but not in my room!

BiddyPop · 01/03/2025 20:54

DDog used to snooze on the spare bed all day and also it wasn't unusual for her to be found on our bed of the door was open. But she was shut up downstairs at night (had a very comfy bed and was quite happy there).

Oldraver · 01/03/2025 20:55

Boy cat sleeps at the bottom and occasionally sleeps on my feet

Girl cat will jump on me, but if I pretend to be asleep and keep my arms/hands in (she will put her head in my hands to insist I rub her) she will go off and settle in between my legs

Previous cat spent the first three months sleeping in my armpit

Catza · 01/03/2025 20:56

I have a large dog who stinks, farts and sheds. No way she is sleeping in my bed. Sometimes I let her come in the morning for a 5 min cuddle, otherwise she is in her own bed downstairs and my bedroom door is firmly closed.

Our cat is shut in the kitchen at nights or he’s an absolute pest at 5am looking for his breakfast! On weekends he comes and lies in with us, and will often sleep on a human bed during the day. Sometimes I put the electric blanket on for him.

We had a (Bengal) cat like that … if you let him upstairs at night he would just yowl when he fancied a midnight snack! He’d also nip your toes under the duvet if you didn’t respond to his early morning calls for breakfast!

I had dogs all my life until a few years ago when I decided I just couldn’t commit to a new puppy. I NEVER let them sleep in/on my bed. The thought of a dog’s bare arsehole stamping itself where I sleep or next to my face makes me feel sick. My dogs were always treated like pets and that meant they weren’t allowed in certain rooms. Growing up our dogs weren’t even allowed upstairs. I don’t think they even knew upstairs existed 😂 my dogs as adults weren’t allowed on the sofa either. Thats where the humans sit.

I will never understand why people want dog anuses on their pillow and hair all over their bedsheets. And a fartung partner is bad enough, let alone a farting dog!

Thesnoozingsighthound · 01/03/2025 20:58

A question for those with pets in their bed and who also share that bed with a partner: how do you stop it impacting your sex life? Do you shut the pet out and bring them in later?

Our dog doesn’t share our bed, but has different beds around the house to choose from.

LennysRucksack · 01/03/2025 20:59

When our first terrier puppy arrived in 2007 we swore that she would never sleep on the bed - she'd have her own bed in our room. 2 weeks of broken sleep and overnight toilet training later, I slept through her crying and DH popped her in our bed, so that was that.

She slept with us every night for her 12 years, and now we have two more that curl up with us. I miss their warm presence around my legs and feet when we go away without then.

Interestingly, I have diagnosed Contamination OCD but the hygiene issue has never troubled me at all. I mean, I have my limits but whilst I'll have an epic meltdown if someone puts an outside shopping bag on my worktop, the proximity of the dog's arsehole when sleeping on our bed never seems to trigger me...

Obviously if they are filthy, smelly or have visible clinkers then they get bathed. They're only small, 8kg and 10kg.

They get the memo fairly quickly and retreat to a safe distance.

Joystir59 · 01/03/2025 21:01

Our dogs sleep in their own bed in the living room and aren't allowed on the sofa or on beds. Their bed is a lovely cosy doggy sofa. I don't want to sleep in a hairy sandy pit or sit in one in the evening. Plus the sofa is new and cost a fortune.

One time when DH and I were being amorous in the day time, the bedroom door was open (pre kids!) and unbeknownst to us one of the cats came in. Didn't realise until it started licking DHs butt! Bedroom door has been firmly shut ever since.

Offcom · 01/03/2025 21:03

Cat used to make the effort to wake me up by sitting on my full bladder at 5am but frankly these days she just phones it in (by rattling the cat flap and howling up the stairs).

Dog sleeps under the duvet, perpendicular to me because how else would a 9kg dog manage to take up most of a king-size bed?

TeenLifeMum · 01/03/2025 21:03

Working cocker spaniel slept downstairs for 2 years but moved to his own bed in our room when the kitchen was done. At 3 years old I was going through an emotional/shit time and he jumped onto the bed and snuggled when I was crying one night. He has been there ever since. He’s now 4.5 and generally sleeps at the bottom of the bed.

we just got a sprocker pup who is 15 weeks old and sleeps in a crate in our bedroom. Once she’s not chewing everything, she’ll be on the bed. Dh predicts it’ll be before she’s a year. She’s the sweetest pup. They make my heart happy.

Superstorefan123 · 01/03/2025 21:04

Dog sleeps downstairs (free roam of all the sofas, bed and blankets) and you’d honestly think we made her sleep in a cardboard in the garden the way some people go on! Totally legit to not want your dog in the bed you can very much still adore your pet.

DearDarcy · 01/03/2025 21:04

Yes my dog sleeps on our bed, on her own blanket though not under or on our duvet but I just think, look they are part of the family and they are not around very long so let them on the bloody sofa, bed and anywhere else where we find comfy :) as long as they are comfy and content too!

She does have free rein to jump off though and sleep in her own bed if she wants and sometimes does this.

But that’s just us 🥰

caringcarer · 01/03/2025 21:05

I've got 2 cats and 2 dogs and they all sleep in the lounge. They are not allowed upstairs.

Rabssccuttlefissh · 01/03/2025 21:05

My poodle sleeps downstairs in her basket. I have enough trouble sleeping, without a fidgety poodle waking me up.

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 01/03/2025 21:06

Our three cats sleep in our bedroom. They rotate during the night to their beds beside ours, on the bed, draped accross random furniture lol.

Then at 4am they are all kicked out because they get the zoomies. We will close the door then until it's time for us to get up.

They know the routine though and quite often they will all just leave the bedroom at 4am and hang out outside the open bedroom door.

Iamthemoom · 01/03/2025 21:06

Most nights at least one cat on my legs. Some nights three. But they're my babies so happy to co-sleep. 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

Audiprettier · 01/03/2025 21:07

Yep me too!
Now only have one small rescue dog & she has steps to get up on the bed. She curls up in the crook of my knees & is just as much my hot-water bottle as I am hers!
She's just so cute & I love her!

We used to command him off the bed but now he sees us kissing he slinks off and lays in the corridor outside until we call him back.

Cat used to be shut out as she’d stare.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/03/2025 21:08

Our last dog always slept on our bed. Just as well it was a nice big one.
Former dog slept on the floor by my side of the bed. He never disturbed us, but he always knew the second I was awake, even if I hadn’t opened my eyes or barely moved.

My dog has a tail that covers her anus. And she sleeps at the foot of my bed. If she scoots up to my end, it is her head that does, not her back end.
And dog hair is just hair. That is plenty of my own in my bed.
