To think Trump is right

1000 replies

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 08:04

Watching the press conference last night which descended into an argument

I can't help think Trump was right and made good points

Thousands of troops are dying and being seriously injured every month

Trump wants it to stop

There are thousands of people who have children alive today who will not be alive tomorrow because of this war

They are clearly in a stalemate and soldiers are now dying untill peace terms are made as no side can win on the battlefield

Trump as brutal as it sounds was being realistic about what peace would be like

Ukraine has to be realistic

If Ukraine sign the rare earth deal with America then America will have a stake in Ukraine and they should then get a better security deal

Trump has not agreed what that is yet, it's clear he wants the European's to form a big part of that

The European's want American troops and for good reason

But this has to stop and the only way it will stop is by peace negotiations

And these have to be realistic and Trump is saying it as it is

sweetie you clearly did not watch the whole thing or have the first understanding of the realities of the situation.
or you are a warmonger, happy to see young men die and a country destroyed as long as its a long way rom you

in either case your opinion is valueless.

Totallymessed · 01/03/2025 13:42

Everyone knows Trump is arrogant and incredibly thin skinned. Zelensky knows that. Maybe no-one should have to bother being polite to him, but unfortunately he's currently the leader of the most powerful country in the world. So politicians have to be pragmatic, if they want Trump to give them what they want.

GameofPhones · 01/03/2025 13:42

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/03/2025 12:59

Z appears to have taken vigorous steps to remove corruption in the country, as it was a condition of NATO candidature

I'd suggest the key issue there is "appears to", @GameofPhones, and NATO conditions for caandidature hardly matter now, when America's veto would instantly stop Ukraine being admitted

Do you have any evidence of corruption?

oh please the EU is totally incapable of conducting a war without the US and the UK.

your naivety is astounding.

The EU is capable of conducting a war without the UK.

The UK is not the most powerful country in Europe anymore. Plenty of other countries have better economies and better armies.

If the UK want to join the war, great.

If they don't want to join the war, we don't need them

Elon musk is one of the richest men in the world! He isn't going cap in hand to Trump.

I can't get over how disgusting this attitude is.

TheWombatleague · 01/03/2025 13:42

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/03/2025 13:27

Zelensky is in no position to be rude when he goes cap in hand for money to the US for a war that is going nowhere

And yet as I've said on several threads it's been something of a popular approach among America's so-called allies, @BusyExpert, with one hand stretched out for money and the other flicking Vs

Understandably a lot of Americans don't appreciate this, and whether we like it or not the climate's now changed with Trump being the President - something they're going to have to get used to

America has maintained its position through the support and cooperation of its allies. If Europe moves its support elsewhere the US is fucked. Losing the dollar as the world's reserve currency and leaving it strategically isolated would finish it as world power.

Gtfto2024 · 01/03/2025 13:42

ZooAccountant · 01/03/2025 13:30

My argument is if that I think Zelensky was rude and arrogant. You don't go into a meeting on the defensive with the leaders of a country who have been supporting you. He should have considered his approach and yes that includes his attire.

You don't bully and gang up on your guests. Trump and Vance spouted bullshit to Zelensky and when he quietly corrected this, they talked over him and shouted him down.

Zelensky was calm and restrained, and very much the better man.

Trump and Vance (have you got down on your knees and prostrated your thanks to us), are fuckwits of the highest order. Trumps casual insults aimed at Biden (clearly Biden also said no to him), shows his pathetic grudge keeping clouds his judgement and shows his stupidity.

But hey, Zelensky in his clean, casual clothing was tidier and smarter than Trump with his schoolboy tied tie and ill fitting, poorly won suit.

Finally someone who knows what's going on! Thank you! It's not as simple as "the BBC told me to hate Trump so everything he does is bad." There are complex military and strategic considerations to all of this.

What Zelensky wants, which is the US military going toe to toe with the Russians on Ukrainian soil, will cause WWIII. So the US isn't going to let it happen.

Yeah apart from the condition to go back into the F35 program was Turkey hand over all the Russian missile systems it has, Turkey has refused, so not back in the program.....

Also Trump wants to drop F35 development....

akiwi · 01/03/2025 13:43

Today's world is about image. Zelenski knows this, and every time we see a picture of him we are reminded by the way he dresses that he's the leader of a country that has is fighting for its existence.
If he wore a suit, we would see a business man arguing about money with other businesses men.
The choice of not wearing a suit is brilliant, which is why pro russians keep attacking it.

They'd only be going toe to toe with them if any peace agreement was worthless. And if it's worthless why is Trump so keen to sign Ukraine up to it?

noblegiraffe · 01/03/2025 13:44

BreezyShaker · 01/03/2025 13:38

When you an invited guest and you need yours hosts help you wear a suit. Everyone other person in that room wore a suit. It’s performative to wear a sweatshirt all the time. What is wrong with a suit??

Of course it's performative that Zelensky doesn't wear a suit. It's symbolic of the fact that his country was illegally invaded and is being devastated by war. He hasn't worn a suit since the invasion.

Here's Zelensky in a suit in 2019 for you. He can wear a suit. He is making a statement by not wearing a suit in 2025.

To think Trump is right
EasternStandard · 01/03/2025 13:44

@Bertaboo the realistic situation is that both need US hence the security ask

Bertaboo · 01/03/2025 13:44

ZooAccountant · 01/03/2025 13:41

Elon musk is one of the richest men in the world! He isn't going cap in hand to Trump.

Yeah but posters were saying that wearing a suit is respectable.

So you don't have to wear a suit and be respectable, if you are rich like elon musk, then?

Jeeekers · 01/03/2025 13:45

IMO
ths press conference was to show unity and Mr V either didnt understand or more likely didn’t agree with “diplomacy”
He saw opportunity to have a global platform to get support for a different agenda.

Edited

I've seen zero signs of EU countries being prepared to fight in Ukraine. What countries are you envisioning getting involved in anything more than paying for weapons?

C152 · 01/03/2025 13:46

Bertaboo · 01/03/2025 12:24

Genuine question:

Why are no other European countries intervening and fighting Russia?

This war has been dragging on for years now

Because they still believe in and apply the rule of law.

Uricon2 · 01/03/2025 13:47

Zelensky was argumentative and ungrateful. I also find his lack of wearing a suit disrespectful,

@BreezyShaker I posted this on another thread (apologies to those who have seen it) The link is from the Imperial War Museum site

https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205140997

"Mr Churchill in his siren suit at The White House, Jan 1942"

Perhaps Trump will remove the bust of Churchill he seemed so keen on from the Oval Office now.

Communism! What movie are you watching? 😂

Trump is Putin's puppet. Where else do you think the US is going?

The reds are under the bed.

What ? The UK has got involved in loads of wars in the past.

This one - total silence .

It's unusual how little other countries have intervened in this war.

TeenLifeMum · 01/03/2025 13:51

Bertaboo · 01/03/2025 13:39

Then all of a sudden we are in a Russian speaking Europe.

There’s no way the uk would ever speak Russia… we’re shite at languages 🫣

akiwi · 01/03/2025 13:51

@TheAmusedQuail Russia is not a communist country. It's a capitalist oligarchy
