AIBU to not want to go to war

It's expensive and it hurts and it helps nothing, it just puts innocent sons, brothers, fathers, uncles and friends through the meat grinder. The only people who benefit are those who make a fortune from selling weapons and are granted contracts for reconstruction.

Haven't we learnt anything? What happened to "never again".

AIBU to really really really not want to be involved in any war?

Surely if conscription happens women would be conscripted in equal numbers to men?

Yes they would, due to the equality act. This idea war would only affect young men is wrong.

ssd · 01/03/2025 12:16

But i agree, if more women were in charge this constant aggression wouldn't happen as much I hope

Can you show me what you've seen that makes you think Russia has any interest in the UK

Well, Russians own loads of London property.

There are plenty of aggressive women!

Depends what they're offering.

You are being ridiculous with this remark.

Some are on MN 😉

As Julia Hartley Brewer asked Russia apologist Tice, if Putin invaded Britain, what part of our country would you be happy to give up?

The south east. It’ll probably bring the house prices down quite a bit. And I’m reliably informed by some of our politicians that there’s an invasion there anyway.

Why is it that men feel this constant need for a willy waving contest, if we women were in charge it would never happen?

I see your point but also if some women were in charge we would be fucked up.
Imagine some of the mumnetters on here being in charge omg we would be screwed.

NamelessNancy · 01/03/2025 12:41

Finerthingsinlife · 01/03/2025 11:13

@TemporaryPosition

You are woefully out of date.

I served in the military for nearly two decades and served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Women would be conscripted as well. Women and men of eligible age and fitness.

Also, for those posters saying if a woman was in charge we wouldn't go to war:

Margaret Thatcher and the Falklands war

Golda Meir and the Yom Kippur war

Indira Gandhi and Indian-Pakistan war

Learn your history and don't make naive sweeping statements.

Imo these women had to outman the men to get where they did. Look at MT getting voice coaching to sound more masculine. Every bit as much products of the patriarchy as the men around them.

Laiste · 01/03/2025 12:41

'Backing down' doesn't stop conflict. The aggressor just moves on to the next thing they decide to take.

All this 'Ukraine should just let Putin have what he wants and stop moaning'' is very very short sighted and naive on a massive scale.

Can in introduce you to Margaret Thatcher who wrenched a bloody victory from the jaws of a peaceful resolution in the Falklands?

Yanbu

Zelensky needs to back down before we have WW3, but he won’t and the UK will back him.

Too many lives have been lost already without the UK adding to the death toll with it’s own personnel for a war that has nothing to do with us.

If you think Zelenskyy baking down will reduce the chance of war we have no choice but to be involved in, you aren’t paying attention.

cardibach · 01/03/2025 12:50

1457bloom · 01/03/2025 07:05

Only go into war if you know you are going to win, otherwise it's a pointless waste of lives.

And what if you are attacked by a more powerful force, as Ukraine was? Just roll over?

Exactly this. Like meddling in Brexit and the US elections, Ukraine is just part of Putin's and Musks end game

Itsalwaysfools · 01/03/2025 07:37

Oh, please, do me a favour. The vast and overwhelming warmongers are men.

Do you think this might be because the overwhelming number of world leaders so far have been men? Women haven’t been, and aren’t now really if you look at the numbers) influential in politics at the level of starting/entering wars. When they have been, the evidence does not suggest they would start fewer.

bombastix · 01/03/2025 12:54

Loving all the think of your special British children, love war monger Russia vibes from some posters here.

Russia can stop this meat grinder any time. But it would rather send a lot of tragic poor Russian people onto computers to wind up a lot of British mothers. They like the meat grinder. What hell it must be to be an ordinary Russian

cardibach · 01/03/2025 12:54

flapjackfairy · 01/03/2025 10:59

Well thatcher didn't start a war . She was the equivalent of Zylenski . She refused to hand over the Falklands to Argentina and booted them out quick smart. That is not warmongering.
And I agree...men should not be allowed to rule countries. the world would be a much better and peaceful world if women were in charge. They would bitch about other leaders behind their backs but would be the soul of politeness to their faces and everyone would rub along quite peaceably.

There was a peaceful solution on the table. There isn’t for Ukraine. It’s totally different.

Starmer needs to stop poking the Bear.

When did he do that? He was very conciliatory. Maybe too much so. Correcting falsehoods isn’t ’poking the bear’.

1457bloom · 01/03/2025 12:57

And what if you are attacked by a more powerful force, as Ukraine was? Just roll over? Well you could fight but you will end up like Gaza, where is the sense in that?

Where is the sense in either? Your children die either way. Might as well at least try to stand up for right.

Perhaps then war would be a good idea to put this decadent nonsense to bed

WTAF?
Equality is decadent nonsense?
Your totally mad takes on the war make more sense now.

1457bloom · 01/03/2025 13:00

Starmer is being far too belligerent, it's not as if we can supply enough weapons for Ukraine to win the war and our army is non existent compared to Russia. US didn't agree to provide the backstop he asked for.

tallhotpinkflamingo · 01/03/2025 13:00

TemporaryPosition · 28/02/2025 22:16

Nobody is imposing war on the UK

Let's say you don't care about anyone else in the world, even in Europe, you're not going to like all the food and essentials shortages and many millions of refugees coming here when the war affects the rest of the continent.

And by the way, Hitler promised not to invade the Czech Republic.

Putin hasn't kept any agreements he's ever made. You would have to be missing basic brain cells to believe him on anything.

For a start, he refers to Ukraine as a "military operation" not a war even though it is.

Secondly, don't forget Theresa May stopped a public enquiry when Russian spies killed innocent people in the UK using biological weapons. Absolute pushover. If you think Russians have no power here, you are very wrong.

1457bloom · 01/03/2025 13:03

Where is the sense in either? Your children die either way. Might as well at least try to stand up for right.

That's the point, your children don't die if you accept you can't win and do a deal and your country is not left in ruins.
