Brand new DMs not selling on Vinted

I put my brand new Doc Martens (pink desert boots) - never been worn, still in the box on vinted and fb marketplace and they’re not selling. They are the wrong size for me and too late to return.
Where else could I try listing them?
I’ve put them on for £85. They are currently sold out on the DM site.

They were brand new and bought for £90.

How much should I list them for?
I’ve added a photo of them.

£25

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 27/02/2025 08:31

Agree - either you have to lower the price or try eBay. EBay have recently removed selling fees for Clothing to try and compete with Vinted so worth a try.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 27/02/2025 08:31

Also are there any DM buying / selling groups on Facebook?

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 27/02/2025 08:33

Also I tried searching them on Vinted and didn’t come up, have you got all the right search terms etc? I only saw a pair for £50

Redburnett · 27/02/2025 08:33

Hard to believe that so many people on MN actually seem to believe average women's show size in UK is 8, just because some numpty has said so. Use your common sense people!
The data referred to is US data, and show sizes in the US are different.

Over40Overdating · 27/02/2025 08:35

EBay is a better bet but you’re still looking at £50-£60 max with free postage included.

The whole point of resale sites is to get a bargain, not to make sellers their investment back.

The only thing I’ve managed to make anything near purchase price back on on Vinted is Lucy and yak stuff but even that’s a struggle now as so much is being listed. DMs in a niche size and colour are going to need to be priced low to sell.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 27/02/2025 08:35

Redburnett · 26/02/2025 23:02

As a general rule you are unlikely to get more than about one third of original selling price for a second hand item. Even if brand new it is still a second hand item. You could try asking about half of the original selling price but be willing to consider offers. You might do better auctioning them on ebay, with a start price the lowest you are willing to expect.

Hmm I sell a lot on Vinted and it’s very depend on the brand. With brands like DMs and Lucy and Yak for example, if it’s brand new and sold out, you’d be closer to getting over half/3 quarters of what you paid. But agree with you on the whole.

User860131 · 27/02/2025 08:36

I bought my dd a pair of traditional dm's on vinted that look almost new for £20. Selling in the shops for £80 just to put things into perspective...

wholettheturnipsburn · 27/02/2025 08:36

YABVVVU

£10 max

ChocolateTruffleAssortment · 27/02/2025 08:36

I recently sold a pair of new netball trainers on there - they were 105 when I bought them (in the wrong colour for DD), but by the time I listed they were 85 in sports direct. I sold them at 75.

£90 new and you’re selling for £85?! That’s madness- it will cost the buyer more than £90 with the buyer fee and postage. The risk of buying on Vinted from a random person means there needs to be a reward. The reward is getting something for a much lower price, otherwise it’s not worth taking the risk. You need to be prepared to only get 50% of what you paid, or less.

sparrowflewdown · 27/02/2025 08:41

I agree. Why would anyone pay you full price? You are not a shop. You are looking at £40 realistically.

pinkdelight · 27/02/2025 08:54

Size 8 is huge. I'm a 7 and sometimes get man's sizes but rarely met a size 8 female and the style is pretty niche, so you're looking at a very specific buyer who might take time to emerge, if they exist.

lechatnoir · 27/02/2025 08:54

I buy and sell loads on Vinted - brand new with tags/original packaging I would expect to list or pay around 1/2 of full price possibly 2/3 if it's something I really wanted & couldn't find elsewhere. As others have said, once you factor in fees and risk factor, you'd be mad to pay the same price as shop bought.

How rude! Agree it's not the UK average but I'm an 8 and know 2 other women who wear an 8 and none of us are unusually large overall.

TheBaronesshasWrittenaLetter · 27/02/2025 06:31

Laughing that the article @WelshPool shared to prove their point shows they were wrong 😂

Then have a laugh at this one that quotes 6.5

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/shoe-size-by-country

Google first answer also suggests 6.5 to 7.

only on here could a teeny tiny come along with itty bitty feet, claim the average size is for elephants and have all the other little delicates fall over themselves to agree.

7 and 8 is a perfectly normal shoe size.

It's not rude - I'm not saying it's unattractive, doubtless many models have size 8 and above. It's just a fact that her market is going to be limited with a niche shoe for a size that's bigger than the average. Even as the poster below with all the stats (and the rudeness about teeny tinies) says, most women are 6.5-7. Obviously some have size 8s like you and your mates but the chances of them wanting secondhand pale pink DMs at this price are clearly gonna be less than if they were size 6 black DMs.

pinkdelight · 27/02/2025 09:04

It's only in the same spirit as this article from people who presumably love shoes - really big/huge feet - any pejorative interpretation is your own -

ShannonBailey · 27/02/2025 09:05

@Gingerbreadcottage , not RTFT, so might be repeating someone else's advice but list them on ebay as DM Church monkey boots.
Put them on at the lowest price you'd be willing to accept, and send them 'signed for', as DMs attract CFs.

brunettemic · 27/02/2025 09:06

You value them at £85. Nobody else does, it’s basic economics. Something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for them.

7 is a normal shoe size. 8 is definitely larger than average.
Shops stock far less of them, I know from personal experience.

wombat15 · 27/02/2025 09:15

Why would anyone buy second hand shoes for nearly the same price as new ones?

mewkins · 27/02/2025 09:17

I paid £50 all in for some standard cherry red 8 hole boots on Vinted. But it was just before Christmas and a smaller more common size. I'd aim for £50 and see how you go. Maybe include in the listing that you're open to reasonable offers.

Long is the word you are looking for rather than "huge".😂

It isn't average but foot lengths are definitely increasing. I used to find it hard to get shoes in a size 8 in the 80s but now it is a normal size stocked by every shop.
