Brand new DMs not selling on Vinted

I put my brand new Doc Martens (pink desert boots) - never been worn, still in the box on vinted and fb marketplace and they’re not selling. They are the wrong size for me and too late to return.
Where else could I try listing them?
I’ve put them on for £85. They are currently sold out on the DM site.

Size 8 is very large for a women’s shoe (no offence; I’m size 7, 8 when pregnant!) so that’s narrowing your market significantly.

bomalan · 26/02/2025 18:42

Have you put a 'bump' on them on Vinted? You pay a little bit of money and it puts your item higher up on the list, and therefore it gets more views.

I put a bump on all of my items, and they always sell really quickly. Even expensive stuff. I sold DM's for around £90.

LivingOnTheVeg · 26/02/2025 18:42

Even if it was a flat £85, people would be much more likely to pay the extra £5 for the security of buying from a reputable site where they can’t get scammed. It’s not even £85 though as after the buyer fee and postage, they’ll actually be paying more than £90.

Most people go on Vinted for second-hand bargains rather than looking for brand-new shoes. It’s not to say they won’t sell, but it’s harder because it’s not what Vinted’s main purpose is. You’re best off trying eBay and setting the featured image to a stock photo of the boots so it’s immediately obvious they’re new, or I assume there are dedicated Facebook groups for buying/selling DMs?

Realistically you’re going to have to knock the price down to at least £80 all-in, and be open to offers around £60-£70. I know it’s annoying but this is why you send them back immediately!

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 26/02/2025 18:44

Second hand clothes don't attract VAT so there's no way I'd pay full price for these. You should take off the VAT mark up and then take off another 20% to realistically get a sale.

As others have said, the buyer is taking a risk that they don't fit etc. plus paying postage and 'buyers protection' which doesn't protect them at all.

I've bought DMs on Vinted but I was prepared to risk the money. There's no way I'd pay full price.

Had the same issue with brand new Docs. I think vinted is the wrong place for them, people want everything for nothing on there.

Have sold some others on ebay and they did go although lower than I would have liked. FB market place might be worth a try.

It's not about wanting everything for nothing it's about being able to buy with an easy returns policy on the account DM site.

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 18:32

I’ve never even worn them , so frustrating

Why didn't you just return them then as soon as you got them and realised they were too small

Normallynumb · 26/02/2025 18:47

Maybe people are wary of fakes?
I think they now an authenticity guarantee if you think that might help
Otherwise drop the price and invite sensible offers
Better than taking up space in your place and you spent the money anyway

Normallynumb · 26/02/2025 18:48

£40 I would think
You can't expect to recoup the price you paid!

Hohofortherobbers · 26/02/2025 18:50

People aren't looking to just save a fiver on vinted. You'd need to halve the price

Avelina · 26/02/2025 18:50

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 18:25

They were brand new and bought for £90.

How much should I list them for?
I’ve added a photo of them.

If you’ve listed them for £85, then with fees and postage it’s cheaper to buy a new pair from DM and then you’re not at risk of being scammed

Winter2020 · 26/02/2025 18:52

People are rightly cautious OP,

Like wondering if you are posting here hoping someone will want to buy them, transfer the money to you and the shoes may not even exist or are fake (sorry). We could all be anyone on the Internet.

If you want someone to take a punt on you being genuine on a site where you don't have a good seller rating you will at least need to offer a bargain.

tellmesomethingtrue · 26/02/2025 18:52

Too risky to pay that much on Vinted.
EBay would be better for that amount.

tellmesomethingtrue · 26/02/2025 18:52

rainache · 26/02/2025 18:08

Wrong time of year for selling DMs, people will be shopping for spring / summer bits now!

No. Weather is still awful.

SBHon · 26/02/2025 18:56

It will cost the buyer £95 to buy them (with fees and postage). So you’re essentially listing them for more than you bought them for.

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 18:56

I’ve got a very good seller rating on there. I’ve been selling on Vinted quite a long time.

I think I’ll have to lower them then , I might try £75 and someone can offer lower if they want. Then gradually decrease until someone buys I guess.

Oh I get that, but even at half price they probably won't sell. I agree that the op has over priced them though. My brand new ones were 200, are still on the official site and I listed for half that and no interest.

autumn1610 · 26/02/2025 18:59

Im looking at buying Sinclair DMs these are about £200 new I’m looking at very good only and won’t go any higher than about £80 with yours if I wanted them badly maybe £55/60 with them being new. But I won’t buy anything I can still buy for the same price from a shop

ChorusOfDisapproval · 26/02/2025 19:00

I always reckon on getting 40%ish of the original price for second hand things on Vinted. For brand new, maybe 55-60%. So I'd say a max of £55.

crankytoes · 26/02/2025 19:01

OP there has to be a really good reason for people to buy something from an unauthorised random person online which no option to return and no guarantee of authenticity.

That means paying no more than maybe 60% of full retail for new unworn items. So that would be £50 if they are currently selling at £84

MinnieCoops · 26/02/2025 19:06

With the buyers protection and postage you're more than the shop.

Price them at £55. You should have returned them.

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 18:32

The second you buy pretty much anything it immediately depreciates in value by around 75%

I'm afraid thems the brakes. Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

There is a DM collectors group of Facebook you could try. Would still need to be cheaper than the current list price which is £84.

MinnieCoops · 26/02/2025 19:08

£75? Are you sure you've been on vinted a long time? It's a cheap as chips place not one where it's 10% off RRP

amylou8 · 26/02/2025 19:09

They're too expensive.
People are reluctant to buy expensive things on vinted as you're taking a bit of gamble that they're real and they'll fit.

Princessfluffy · 26/02/2025 19:10

Shoes are hard to sell on Vinted due to fit issues and not being able to return them.

£40 would be a sensible price if you want to sell them quickly.

Ritzybitzy · 26/02/2025 19:11

They’re currently on sale for £84.

Keep in mind you’re selling them without any consumer rights. £45 to sell.
