Brand new DMs not selling on Vinted

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 18:00

I put my brand new Doc Martens (pink desert boots) - never been worn, still in the box on vinted and fb marketplace and they’re not selling. They are the wrong size for me and too late to return.
Where else could I try listing them?
I’ve put them on for £85. They are currently sold out on the DM site.

Even cheap stuff isn’t really selling on Vinted, I suspect it’s just over flooded these days.

I’m considering migrating back to depop

I still don’t understand why people are putting the laughing emoji on the photo I’ve uploaded

People are laughing at that post because you admit you paid £90 for them yet expect someone to buy them second hand at £85, plus delivery fee and Vinted fees so they’ll be paying more than £90. Why would they? That’s why people are laughing.

£70 is also still too high.

PandaTime · 27/02/2025 00:58

£70 is still too much. With Buyer Protection and postage, that is nearly £80. People would rather pay £4 more from a store and be covered by a warranty.

If you look at the other DMs available, there are quite a few around £50, and they have been there for months.

Also, you have them listed as "Rose, Apricot" rather than "Peach Beige", which means anyone specifically looking for those Peach Beige DMs won't see them.

YourFlawIsLava · 27/02/2025 01:14

Respectfully, you're not listening. People aren't going to pay anywhere near the price they can get them from the shops for.

Additionally, I've looked at similar products and am very wary of fakes so wouldn't spend any more than 50% shop value. You should have taken them back, you didn't. This is the consequence. I've got loads of stuff in my cupboard that I didn't return in time so I know your pain but I can't create a miracle.

They're also quite niche so perhaps not a best seller or something that would move quickly even at the right price. A normal DM boot in black for example is a staple. Those are not.

YourFlawIsLava · 27/02/2025 01:16

Also, I'm a size 6. My mum is a size 8/9. She has always struggled to buy nice shoes because of this so 8 is not common among women. Not unheard of but I know one! I think 6 is average. Most people I know are smaller.

YourFlawIsLava · 27/02/2025 01:18

@WelshPool that says US size.

PeloMom · 27/02/2025 05:26

if something is less than 50% off RRP on site like vinted I would buy directly from the retailer as I have more protection if something goes wrong. The only exceptions are sought after/rare/ sold out everywhere else items in excellent/ new condition.

DetectiveSleuth · 27/02/2025 05:38

It’s always the price on Vinted. You’ll either have to accept rock bottom price or go and see if there’s a proper re-seller site. When I sell on Vinted I take whatever the person offers because it’s worth precisely zero until someone buys it.

DetectiveSleuth · 27/02/2025 05:40

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 18:25

They were brand new and bought for £90.

How much should I list them for?
I’ve added a photo of them.

The sides look scuffed and that would put me
off. I’d offer you no more than £30.

repellingmnvipers · 27/02/2025 05:49

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 18:32

I’ve never even worn them , so frustrating

Why did you not return them within the returns timeframe?

DetectiveSleuth · 27/02/2025 05:53

WelshPool · 26/02/2025 22:35

How amusing. The Mumsnet teeny tinies stretch to feet as well 😂

Average UK women’s shoe size is a 7. Given that shoes can often run small as well an 8 is a perfectly normal size.

clearly we’ve lost sight of a normal shoe size 😂

Who told you the average is a 7? I’m a size 5 and, when I go shoe shopping, I often find it quite hard to find size 5s. I also notice that there’s usually not many in a size 6 either 🤷‍♀️

I don’t understand why the laughing emoji on the photo - that’s what I’ve posted on vinted.

The photo would be much better against a plain background. For an item of that price I would expect multiple photos.

Doingmybestbut · 27/02/2025 06:06

fashionqueen0123 · 26/02/2025 21:54

In most cases if someone is selling something new with tags I always find it weird they don’t just return it and wouldn’t buy them. Makes me
think they’re fake or some thing. Plus they need to be marked down loads to get the price below current selling price.

I suspect a lot of new with tags stuff on Vinted has been stolen.

No clue why the laughing emoji, I love them! Shame they're not my size, but also I wouldn't put more than £50 for 2nd hand shoes, even if never worn.

Startinganew32 · 27/02/2025 06:15

Look, I get it’s annoying that you didn’t return the shoes in time but why the hell you’d expect people to pay you over £90 with the sellers fees and stuff for them is baffling. You are also a UK size 8 and not that many women are above a 7 so you have a limited market as it is. The website about average sizes is an US one and theirs are two sizes above ours, so a 7 there would be a 5 in the UK.
It’s a second hand clothing website. People go on there to get a bargain, not full price items they could get cheaper by going straight to the manufacturer. I’d say between £35 and £40 and you might get some takers but given the size, maybe not many.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/02/2025 06:16

Could it be that DM actually call them monkey boots, so anyone searching for those exact boots won't find them

And price.

BookishBabe · 27/02/2025 06:17

Is OP not going to address that on the Dr Marten website the boots are in stock in a size 8, they are only £84, and next day delivery is free.

Your pair should be more like £40.

On the topic of shoe size, I'm a 43, which used to be an 8 in the UK (I live in England) it slowly seemed to turn into a 9. Now in some brands a 43 is now a 10! But my feet have a been a 43 or 27.5cms since I was 13.

Whatshallwedohere · 27/02/2025 06:18

Newusername3kidss · 26/02/2025 18:05

Maybe eBay? Or local Facebook marketplace groups. People expect absolute bargains on vinted - I had a brand new Zara dress and put it at £15 (was £50) and someone offered me £3!

This is genuinely not possible as people can only offer a maximum of 40% lower than the listed price

MonthsofTherapy · 27/02/2025 06:18

It's the fees and postage that bumps it up. They might be brand new, but I would rather buy for a tiny bit extra from the shop. I would consider those at £60 because by the time the fees and postage is added on, you are pushing £67.

Startinganew32 · 27/02/2025 06:20

DetectiveSleuth · 27/02/2025 05:53

Apparently the average is 6.5 so not far off.

Also OP, DocMartens do 10% off first order so your boots would be £75.60 with free delivery for brand new boots straight from the seller with all the statutory rights.

The idea that someone should pay you over £90 because you didn’t remember to take yours back in time is indeed laughable.

Mummyoflittledragon · 27/02/2025 06:24

Historyofwolves · 26/02/2025 21:50

Why don't people understand sunk costs?!

You bought them and failed to return them in time. You can't wear them and therefore have no use for them. You've already wasted your money. Anything you get back for them on Vinted is a bonus. Why on earth would you expect full price and to recoup your costs?! People don't owe you anything. They're doing YOU a favour taking your unwanted stuff off your hands!

Agreed. I was going to say similar.

TheBaronesshasWrittenaLetter · 27/02/2025 06:31

Laughing that the article @WelshPool shared to prove their point shows they were wrong 😂

FeathersMcgraww · 27/02/2025 06:52

Hercisback1 · 26/02/2025 18:06

No one will pay that much on vinted sorry.

Ebay?

I sold a pair of DMs that had been worn twice for £140 on Vinted, they were £230-ish brand new but were sold out everywhere and viral on tiktok at the time, so people absolutely will pay that much if the item is popular enough!

SquashPenguin · 27/02/2025 06:58

There are so many fake DMs on Vinted that I would never buy a pair from there. Not saying yours a fake but it's too high a price for me to take the chance.

Doggymummar · 27/02/2025 06:58

WelshPool · 26/02/2025 22:43

Averages 6.5 to 7.
suspect you have more luck finding a 4 in the sales than I do 7 or 8. AND you can get away with kids sizes you jammy bugger!!!

Yeah I wear a lit of kids shoes, sometimes a 3.5 fits too
