Brand new DMs not selling on Vinted

I put my brand new Doc Martens (pink desert boots) - never been worn, still in the box on vinted and fb marketplace and they’re not selling. They are the wrong size for me and too late to return.
Where else could I try listing them?
I’ve put them on for £85. They are currently sold out on the DM site.

I still don’t understand why people are putting the laughing emoji on the photo I’ve uploaded

It's because you bought them for £90 and are expecting them to sell for close to that on Vinted.

You won't get more than £35-40 for them on Vinted. You'll be lucky to get that.

No one is buying them because you are listing them for too high a price. Even £70 is way too high. People buying on Vinted don't care how much you bought them for.

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 27/02/2025 07:02

Is there a good reason you didn’t return them? Maybe if you explain that.

Doggymummar · 27/02/2025 07:02

Doingmybestbut · 27/02/2025 06:06

I suspect a lot of new with tags stuff on Vinted has been stolen.

I bought a lot of new with tags in a consignment, old stock from past years. I'll be loading it on today as it's payday weekend, Next and Zara, but I do wonder about some of it. It might be lifted. Not mine, other people's.

biscuitsandbooks · 27/02/2025 07:02

They're scuffed along the side, for starters.

But even if they weren't, nobody is going to pay that kind of price for second hand shoes that are available for less from the actual retailer Confused

YourFlawIsLava · 27/02/2025 01:16

Also, I'm a size 6. My mum is a size 8/9. She has always struggled to buy nice shoes because of this so 8 is not common among women. Not unheard of but I know one! I think 6 is average. Most people I know are smaller.

Your mum's problem is being a large 8. 9s are still uncommon in many shoes. However, if you're a smaller 8, there's bloody loads of choice these days. Way more than there used to be (the choice was dire when I was a teen).

I'm sadly a large 8 too these days (post pregnancy!).

Jumpingthruhoops · 27/02/2025 07:07

Sorry OP but no one will pay £85 for those on Vinted. As others have said, either reduce them significantly or try selling for what you want on eBay.

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 18:25

They were brand new and bought for £90.

How much should I list them for?
I’ve added a photo of them.

No one is going to give you £85 for them on Vinted. They're not really a popular style unlike Jadons or Sinclair for example.

You'd be lucky to get £60 for them on vinted I'm afraid.

High end maybe. But with Zara stuff etc, I think it's because people are largely very disorganised and have passed the point for a refund. Zara will point blank refuse to give money back after 28 days!

SparrowFeet · 27/02/2025 07:22

I never buy anything new with tags for more than 50% than what I could buy in the shop. Brands have sales. Anyone who actually buys them off you for £70 is a fool.
No one on Vinted cares why you weren't able to return. You've lost your money already.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 27/02/2025 07:26

I sold brand new Russell and Bromley lace ups on Vinted for 40 and they took a while to sell. No one will pay 85 for DMs and you say you paid 90 originally - so with added fees you're selling at a higher priced than new?

Barney16 · 27/02/2025 07:27

Too expensive as others have said. You need to reduce to around £40 to £45. Or be prepared to wait and wait for them to sell. Has anyone added them to their favourites? You could make them an offer if so. Other option as someone has said is to take them off and list in the autumn. They are v pretty a d it's a shame they don't fit you.

Dita73 · 27/02/2025 07:31

Depop. I sold a pair of limited edition DM’s that I paid £130 for,for £200

Clarefromwork · 27/02/2025 07:33

Has anyone favorited them?

penguinbiscuity · 27/02/2025 07:35

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 23:00

It may sound like an excuse but the main reason I didn’t return them in time is I have ADHD and my memory and executive functioning is shocking.

I did exactly the same! Bought DMs, didn't return in time coz ADHD. Listed on Vinted, they didn't sell.

I sold them in Facebook Marketplace for £60, I got loads of interest. It was just before Christmas though.

I'd try listing on FB marketplace too if I were you.

scotstars · 27/02/2025 07:43

Even though they are new and unworn people don't pay retail or near retail prices on Vinted. They can't return if don't fit or don't like and are trusting they are listed as described so they don't expect to pay full price I had an unworn dress with tags on that cost £100 it sold for £15

Dita73 · 27/02/2025 07:52

@scotstars you were crazy to sell it for £15! What you need to do is wait six months until it’s sold out completely, add “vintage” to your listing and you’ll get £150!

ichifanny · 27/02/2025 07:53

Put them at £65 -£70it’s because they are brand new on site for £85 and people can return them from there , I’ve sold loads and bought loads for decent prices so not everyone expects everything to be a couple of pounds but it needs to be cheaper then the shops . I sell and buy all the time .

fashionqueen0123 · 27/02/2025 07:58

HeronTwist · 26/02/2025 23:47

People buy things they intend to wear but never do, and then it’s too late to return. Have you never done this?

I’ve done it occasionally, but some people are addicted to shopping, and do this all the time. Or at one point they had more money than sense and now times are a bit leaner and they’re looking for cash.

Probably once or twice in my whole life. If I buy something it’s because I really like it. So I wouldn’t not wear it!

fashionqueen0123 · 27/02/2025 07:59

DuesToTheDirt · 26/02/2025 23:54

I tend to think they're stolen.

Yes that’s also true. Especially if they’re selling a lot from the same brand etc or multiple sizes.

They will be sometimes I’m sure.

Haha yes it wasn't a known brand or that would be the answer!

penguinbiscuity · 27/02/2025 08:08

fashionqueen0123 · 27/02/2025 07:58

Probably once or twice in my whole life. If I buy something it’s because I really like it. So I wouldn’t not wear it!

The things you find easy and take for granted aren't always easy for everyone.

For example, at size 22, none of the shops in my town except the supermarkets stock my size, therefore I have to buy most of my clothes online. However because of my size, it's hard to find things that suits.

I have ADHD so I am shit at sending them back. So, I fairly often end up with clothes I don't want past the returns date.

I dare say there are several reasons people can't easily get to the shops (e.g. remote location / disability) and various barriers to sending things back.

Whaleandsnail6 · 27/02/2025 08:16

Do you have anything else listed for people to make a bundle

I only really buy things on vinted if they are a really good bargain or if I can buy them as part of a bundle so it seems more worth it

Sorry op but I think you need to lower your price a lot further

viques · 27/02/2025 08:17

The thing is about shoes is that you try them on straight away , so if they don’t fit you can send them back immediately . So saying you “left it too late to return them” is an odd thing to say, and if I think that then so will others and wonder what the possible real back story is.

Also as other people have pointed out, for the price you are asking someone who wanted a similar pair could buy them brand new without all the possible drama of them being a rip off.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 27/02/2025 08:27

WelshPool · 26/02/2025 23:04

You can think that, but it’s not.

https://runrepeat.com/uk/womens-shoe-statistics

My mum was an 8, my sister is an 8, my best friend is an 8 and I’m a 7 who will wear an 8 depending on style.

But those are American sizes. The UK equivalent of US 8.5 is 6.5. However, in UK stats that I have seen, size 6 is UK average. Not that long ago it was size 5 so we're definitely getting bigger, foot wise.

MuffinSpencer · 27/02/2025 08:28

By the time I’ve paid postage as well, I would be paying more than full price. If they don’t fit or I don’t like them I can’t return them. I then have the faff of reposting them, and even then I know I won’t make my money back. The buyer protection is rubbish and I have had an item get lost before and Vinted wouldn’t refund me. We are going in to spring so people will be buying spring/summer bits so they won’t re sell quickly.

It just doesn’t make sense, unless I am desperate for these and can’t get them anywhere else.
