Brand new DMs not selling on Vinted

I put my brand new Doc Martens (pink desert boots) - never been worn, still in the box on vinted and fb marketplace and they’re not selling. They are the wrong size for me and too late to return.
Where else could I try listing them?
I’ve put them on for £85. They are currently sold out on the DM site.

That says the country comparison is given in US sizes with the UK size in the comparison chart.

The comparison chart seems to suggest the UK average in UK sizes is a 4 or 5.

This one says it’s a 6/7 (EU 40) which is probably correct as it matches lots of other search results:

Could try some DM collectors groups on Facebook? I had a pair of limited edition Black Sabbath 1460s that had been sold out forever, was hoping for a decent chunk of cash for them as they weren’t cheap new - sold them to a collector in a group for £80 in the end. That may help you with a price reference as the ones I had were limited/unusual and that was the final price they went for after sitting on Vinted for ages at a higher price.

Less than I’d hoped but I think they just don’t hold their value very well (and quality tanked in recent years).

BarneyRonson · 27/02/2025 11:01

People wanting their money back on Vinted are delusional. So many things there are cheaper from Amazon for those of us with Prime. List low, sell fast, move on.

Zilla1 · 27/02/2025 11:03

Google and see if they are out of stock everywhere rather than just the DM site, OP. If genuinely unavailable and you prioritise the amount of money then try on EBay under a heading of 'rare limited edition summer desert boot' 'sold out everywhere' and see if you get lucky? IF they can be bought from a retailer with buyer's rghts then you'll need to take the reduction in price.

Good luck.

Size 8 is very large for a women’s shoe (no offence; I’m size 7, 8 when pregnant!) so that’s narrowing your market significantly.

I'm an 8/9 and it's really hard to get shoes in my size brand new, I never bother to look on Vinted for them unless they're men's.

My point is that even a second’s thought would have let an averagely empathetic person realise that ‘huge’ is a most unpleasant word and would be insulting.
In addition, ‘above average’ and ‘huge’ aren’t synonymous.

I'm talking about the boots (impersonal objects) not your feet, which I've never seen and wasn't remotely thinking of. I've got two teenage sons and the hallway is full of huge footwear. I love their feet. Their footwear is huge and I say that affectionately and will miss said giant shoes when they leave. Honestly, the ability of people to take posts on here personally when it's not about them is beyond me.

I’m going to say this again because you didn’t respond earlier, OP, and I’m not sure if you saw it - try taking them to a DM store if you can get to one. They are usually really helpful and may refund you even past the online return deadline. Depends if they think they can resell them I guess, and since they are still in stock…

Yes - that is a good idea. Or even phone them and ask if they will accept a late return. I once returned something months late and the company still gave me a full refund. Obviously it is in their discretion and it may be that you only get a credit note rather than a refund, but it is definitely worth trying.

It’s not the same when it’s boys/men though which I’m sure you know. If anything, men feel self conscious if their shoe size is seen as small.

ShannonBailey · 27/02/2025 12:21

@pinkdelight , size 8 isn't huge. It's not 'average' but it's definitely not huge.

I'm average height and wear size 5.

Hurumph · 27/02/2025 12:34

Hello
they're really lovely, and I would seem to be the exception to the rule in that I would spend that money on Vinted.
I also sell the odd expensive thing on Vinted and sometimes they take a while to shift but the right buyer generally comes along at some point.
However, if you’re trying to sell your boots for essentially full price then you will probably struggle.
I would knock £20 off (and be prepared for some stupid offers).

The things you find easy and take for granted aren't always easy for everyone.

For example, at size 22, none of the shops in my town except the supermarkets stock my size, therefore I have to buy most of my clothes online. However because of my size, it's hard to find things that suits.

I have ADHD so I am shit at sending them back. So, I fairly often end up with clothes I don't want past the returns date.

I dare say there are several reasons people can't easily get to the shops (e.g. remote location / disability) and various barriers to sending things back.

I can’t afford to buy things and then just not send them back and let it go past the time.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/02/2025 13:05

If you want to swap then for a diff size shops usually happy to do this even if over 30 days

Me neither. I have ADHD but I'm also a canny skinflint which rather overrides it!

I’ve re-listed for £70 - will accept lower though and will drop price if needs be.

I've not read the whole thread, but you do seem rather optimistic that someone will pay close to RRP for your boots that they can't try on before committing to buy.

Vinted isn't the place to sell them, but you could try FB marketplace or even eBay.

From my own experience, I listed a brand new pair of Timberland knee high boots for £70 which was a vast reduction from its RRP already. I had someone message me asking whether I'd accept £30 for them. They were trying to flog a wallet for £200 themselves! In the end, I decided to take it off Vinted and gift them to my sister who loved them.

Good luck on selling them.

ShannonBailey · 27/02/2025 17:52

If the shoes are no longer available to buy new because they are sold out or discontinued, they might. I think they look fun and might be tempted but they are several sizes too big for me.

GooseEs · 27/02/2025 17:56

I've sold a fair few pairs of DMs.

I usually buy them in the sale and sell them for around the same price I paid in the sale.

I think alot depends on the style of boots. I don't think the monkey boots are a great seller. The jadons and sinclairs sell well.

ExercicenformedeZ · 27/02/2025 17:58

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 23:00

It may sound like an excuse but the main reason I didn’t return them in time is I have ADHD and my memory and executive functioning is shocking.

Well, that's unfortunate for you, but that is nobody else's problem. I also have ADHD and I have systems in place for dealing with it. If you know that you have memory gaps, you need to find work arounds or you will have bigger problems than forgetting to return a pair of shoes.

SpringCabbage · 27/02/2025 17:58

I’ve bought and had people buy ‘expensive’ things on Vinted.

The difference is unless the item is unique (maybe this is) AND in high demand (maybe this appeals to a smaller group of people), you’ll never get close to RRP and why would you? People have to pay protection fee plus shipping, there’s more risk and they can’t return

It’s not the same proposition as buying from a shop at all.

ExercicenformedeZ · 27/02/2025 18:06

You can't expect people to pay that for DMs on Vinted. Even on Ebay you'd be chancing it. Try £40.00, that might get them shifted. £85.00 is ludicrous.
I have spent decent money on Vinted, for a pair of Valentinos that had only been worn once. I paid an authentication fee and I didn't regret it for a second, so it isn't true that nobody will pay good money for anything. However, it has to be a bargain. I think I paid around £300.00 for the Valentinos, and they retail at around £600.00. Ergo it is about proportion, not outright price.

TunnocksOrDeath · 27/02/2025 18:16

It might just be the lights in the room reflecting off the side of the sole, but the black edge near the arch has pale patches that look like mud/dust (also the box looks dented) You may want to re-do the picture if you re-list them.

Might, but they haven't thus far. I would take that as a sign.

Edited

I've sold DMs on Ebay for £110

And 85 on vinted recently

And £50 for pretty worn ones!

I don't know - I tend to sell things that are a bit niche, so they won't sell just because they are cheap, they'll sell if somebody wants them.

Some people buy from ebay without looking at the brand's site.

Toottooot · 27/02/2025 18:54

There’s a good group on Facebook - preowned but still lovely - or try searching for a DM group on Facebook - more likely to be demand there.

CosyLemur · 01/03/2025 10:12

To many fake DMs and scammers using none existent DMs for me to part with £85 on vinted, eBay or marketplace.
Especially as they usually use ones that are out of stock on the DM website.
