Brand new DMs not selling on Vinted

I put my brand new Doc Martens (pink desert boots) - never been worn, still in the box on vinted and fb marketplace and they’re not selling. They are the wrong size for me and too late to return.
Where else could I try listing them?
I’ve put them on for £85. They are currently sold out on the DM site.

In most cases if someone is selling something new with tags I always find it weird they don’t just return it and wouldn’t buy them. Makes me
think they’re fake or some thing. Plus they need to be marked down loads to get the price below current selling price.

LifesTooShortForYourNonsense · 26/02/2025 22:05

Half rrp minus 10% is the rule :)

I bought my nearly new purple doc martens from Ebay. Maybe try there.

Jeeekers · 26/02/2025 22:15

When I’ve had items that I’ve actually bought, but can’t return, I include photo of receipt to show that purchased from real shop. If that helps.
But you should discount to get rid of them.

e-bay
be sure to say “no returns” like 5 times. Ask them to be sure of size as no returns.

snowlady4 · 26/02/2025 22:18

They're too expensive. If you add on postage and buyer protection, it'll be over £90.. it's alot for secondhand shoes that could be fakes. (I know they're not!) Honestly I'd start at £30.

I never thought of that! I have quite a few things that I bought in the hopes that I would manage to fit into them, but (surprise, surprise) I never managed to. All bought a while ago so not returnable, or children’s clothes that my offspring managed to grow out of before wearing as they had a massive growth spurt and just missed out one or two sizes along the way!

Size 8 is very large for a women’s shoe (no offence; I’m size 7, 8 when pregnant!) so that’s narrowing your market significantly.

How amusing. The Mumsnet teeny tinies stretch to feet as well 😂

Average UK women’s shoe size is a 7. Given that shoes can often run small as well an 8 is a perfectly normal size.

clearly we’ve lost sight of a normal shoe size 😂

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/02/2025 22:36

£85 is too much to risk on them but fitting.

Is it? Crikey I'm a 4

Averages 6.5 to 7.
suspect you have more luck finding a 4 in the sales than I do 7 or 8. AND you can get away with kids sizes you jammy bugger!!!

WednesdaysChild25 · 26/02/2025 21:48

No it’s not! I’d say your size 8 is a pretty average size. Most of my friends and women I work with are a size 8.

No way is size 8 average for a woman! Size 5 more like

I think average is a 6.

I don’t know anyone with size 8, I do have one friend who takes a 9 but she’s 6 foot tall.
Usually clothing shops have 5 and 6 with most shoes.

GooseEs · 26/02/2025 22:56

I've got 4 pairs of brand new doc martens for sale in FB market place and various DM sites. Sold out and well below rrp and no luck :(

That’s annoying! I see that it happens sometimes (maybe unwanted gifts too) but I rarely would have anything not used. I mean in this case they could have been returned!

RobertaFirmino · 26/02/2025 23:00

They are size 8 so could fit a smaller man. My advice is to list on EBay and include the word 'sissy' in the first three words of your listing title.

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 23:00

It may sound like an excuse but the main reason I didn’t return them in time is I have ADHD and my memory and executive functioning is shocking.

As a general rule you are unlikely to get more than about one third of original selling price for a second hand item. Even if brand new it is still a second hand item. You could try asking about half of the original selling price but be willing to consider offers. You might do better auctioning them on ebay, with a start price the lowest you are willing to expect.

You can think that, but it’s not.

My mum was an 8, my sister is an 8, my best friend is an 8 and I’m a 7 who will wear an 8 depending on style.

DuesToTheDirt · 26/02/2025 23:05

I sold some nearly-new DMs on Gumtree for £50. I think they were about £130 new but can't remember for sure. The buyer was able to try them on before paying.

All the other websites I checked said 6 🤷🏼‍♀️

HeronTwist · 26/02/2025 23:42

So they sell for £90, and you listed them for £85? By the time the buyer has paid buyer’s protection and p&p it’s will come to more than £90. They would be foolish to pay this much for a second hand item (even if new, it’s still second hand once you’re selling it on vinted).

People buy things they intend to wear but never do, and then it’s too late to return. Have you never done this?

I’ve done it occasionally, but some people are addicted to shopping, and do this all the time. Or at one point they had more money than sense and now times are a bit leaner and they’re looking for cash.

cardibach · 26/02/2025 23:49

Kangarude · 26/02/2025 18:08

DM’s are well know as scammed items on Vinted. I think people avoid them and £85 is a lot of money

I’ve sold several pairs of DMs on vinted. Round the £50 mark though, even unworn/barely worn ones.

Are you sure it’s too late to return? Adam shops are very helpful usually.

I tend to think they're stolen.
