Brand new DMs not selling on Vinted

I put my brand new Doc Martens (pink desert boots) - never been worn, still in the box on vinted and fb marketplace and they’re not selling. They are the wrong size for me and too late to return.
Where else could I try listing them?
I’ve put them on for £85. They are currently sold out on the DM site.

How long since you purchased them? I've emailed brands a couple of times before and asked if it would be ok to return past the deadline and they've always agreed . (only by a week or two though - haven't ever left it longer so can't speak for that situation). Is that potentially a better option, especially if they're a style that's still for sale?

Don't be daft, it's February! Summer wouldn't cross my mind until about June at the earliest!

And for fans of DM's, every day is a DM day, regardless of season!

LameBorzoi · 26/02/2025 20:32

Agree with PPs - for most things, second hand are usually worth no more than about half the price of buying new.

EntropyCentral · 26/02/2025 20:32

People aren't looking to just save a fiver on vinted. You'd need to halve the price

This.

KTSl1964 · 26/02/2025 20:32

Op why aren't you selling on ebay? Docs are selling on ebay - there is a mark on the side of the shoe on the sole - is it a shadow? Ebay has no fees and used leather ones are going for £60 plus.

Carinattheliqorstore1 · 26/02/2025 20:38

If it’s not selling it’s overpriced

TartanMammy · 26/02/2025 20:46

Yours are actually more expensive than buying them new, when your factor in postage and buyer protection.

I'd never pay that much for something in vinted, I'd want at least half price to make up for the fact I can't return them, they might not fit and they might not be as described.

TakeMeToTheSeahorseDisco · 26/02/2025 20:47

There are Facebook groups just for selling DM's, if you search for them they'll come up and I bet you'll get what you've asked for on there 😊

TakeMeToTheSeahorseDisco · 26/02/2025 20:48

See pic 😊

Just a thought, if they are size 8 can you also list in men's?
And I think spring is the right time for this colour, not winter.

People saying they only want bargains- Vinted has a designer section and also if you sort highest price first you'd be amazed how much things are being put on for.

Duckswaddle · 26/02/2025 21:10

RaspberryCombat · 26/02/2025 18:40

Size 8 is very large for a women’s shoe (no offence; I’m size 7, 8 when pregnant!) so that’s narrowing your market significantly.

🤣🤣 what? Ever tried to get size 8 in a shoe sale? Bollocks.

GirlOverboard123 · 26/02/2025 21:11

It’s not so unthinkable that someone would be prepared to pay full price for a BNWT item from a marketplace if that item was unavailable to buy from the store. I’ve certainly done it a number of times. I recently bought a BNWT Cath Kidston bag on eBay for full RRP, because it’s from a limited edition range from several years ago that I love. Lots of people do the same.

That said, I don’t buy DMs, so I don’t know whether your listing could be raising red flags for a fake. I also don’t shop on Vinted so don’t know about buyer protection and whether buyers are more cautious on there.

However, I would have done the same as you and listed the boots on eBay at a high price and then opened it to offers and gradually dropped the price every week or two until I got a sale. You can’t gauge how desirable an item is to someone until you list it.

I still don’t understand why people are putting the laughing emoji on the photo I’ve uploaded

Oh ignore them, they're just being mean

CrazyOldMe · 26/02/2025 21:32

There's too many scams on Vinted these days sadly.

neilyoungismyhero · 26/02/2025 21:33

I just sold a pair of knee highs - new- for 110 pounds. I had a few cheeky offers but held firm and they sold. It did take a few weeks though.

BooomShakeTheRoom · 26/02/2025 21:33

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 18:25

They were brand new and bought for £90.

How much should I list them for?
I’ve added a photo of them.

So you’re expecting people to pay full price including postage but with none of the rights they get when buying brand new from supplier?!

£60 max.

brookebum · 26/02/2025 21:34

100percenthagitude · 26/02/2025 19:52

I think you're doing a fine job of attempting to sell them on MN!

It's just so obvious....

Trinity69 · 26/02/2025 21:36

Join a few of the numerous DM pages on Facebook. You will find a buyer there.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 26/02/2025 21:40

There’s a fb group, “slide into my dr martens” where people sell boots. As others have said, too expensive. Although i sold a pair of DM Mary Janes on Vinted for £85 that I had paid £130 for and worn a couple of times. I think part of the appeal was it was my heels that had taken the shredding!

No it’s not! I’d say your size 8 is a pretty average size. Most of my friends and women I work with are a size 8.

florasl · 26/02/2025 21:49

New with tags stuff usually sells at about 30/40% of the original price in my experience unless it is particularly desirable.

Historyofwolves · 26/02/2025 21:50

Why don't people understand sunk costs?!

You bought them and failed to return them in time. You can't wear them and therefore have no use for them. You've already wasted your money. Anything you get back for them on Vinted is a bonus. Why on earth would you expect full price and to recoup your costs?! People don't owe you anything. They're doing YOU a favour taking your unwanted stuff off your hands!

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 26/02/2025 21:51

I paid £80 for a pair of DMs on Vinted. Normally £220 and never been worn. They arrived in perfect condition and no regrets. So i wouldn't necessarily say you can't sell for a decent price on Vinted. It may be more that they're quite niche.
