Brand new DMs not selling on Vinted

I put my brand new Doc Martens (pink desert boots) - never been worn, still in the box on vinted and fb marketplace and they’re not selling. They are the wrong size for me and too late to return.
Where else could I try listing them?
I’ve put them on for £85. They are currently sold out on the DM site.

They don’t appear to be sold out on the DM website… £84 with free next day delivery and 30 day returns policy. Why would someone buy yours?

If selling second hand you need to price at a third of original price as a rule. No-one is paying full price for them, unworn or not.

Nottodaythankyou123 · 26/02/2025 19:12

I wouldn’t pay full price on Vinted even with tags - I’d wait and get them off the website / Schuh / Office etc.

Apart from the risk of being scammed, if they don’t it or don’t look right on me then you’re stuck with them.

Plus those places often offer discount or free shipping, so why pay the same RRP plus buyers fee and postage for something you have absolutely no recourse for if it doesn’t work out.

Id put them on for £50 to start and chalk it up to experience.

ThejoyofNC · 26/02/2025 19:14

You can't ask retail price on vinted.

Also they're definitely an acquired taste so not going to sell as quickly as a standard pair. But they won't sell at all until you lower the price significantly.

Gardendiary · 26/02/2025 19:15

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 18:25

They were brand new and bought for £90.

How much should I list them for?
I’ve added a photo of them.

You're way too close to the actual retail price. I generally won't pay more than a third of the rrp for anything I buy off vinted. I apply the same logic to selling and generally never have anything hanging around too long - when you can't return things that don't fit it has to be cheap.

worcesterpear · 26/02/2025 19:17

It was a couple of years ago, but I sold a new/never been worn pair on Ebay and got close to the price I paid for them, maybe more I can't remember exactly. I do remember being really nervous in case the buyer wasn't happy, but I got a good review as they said they were even better in real life than the photo.

RaininSummer · 26/02/2025 19:19

People won't risk such a big outlay on unseen goods which can't be returned. They will sell at 35 pounds I bet .

RosaBaby2 · 26/02/2025 19:21

Payday Friday for a lot of people too.

Wrong time of year for selling DMs, people will be shopping for spring / summer bits now!

Don't be daft, it's February! Summer wouldn't cross my mind until about June at the earliest!

Chuchoter · 26/02/2025 19:26

You might get a better result if you sell them nearer the time of summer festivals and market them as festival wear.

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 19:26

I’ve re-listed for £70 - will accept lower though and will drop price if needs be.

SauvignonBlanche · 26/02/2025 19:30

If they were a size larger,I’d be interested - but not at that price!

HelloNorthernStar · 26/02/2025 19:37

I have just bought my new DMs from schuh, these were on sale for £110 with the guarantee I can return them if not right. I would not buy off vinted anyway but if I was buying off a different resale sites, I would expect £50 max and I would have to love them.

User7288339 · 26/02/2025 19:41

As a buyer why would I pay only slightly less to you, compared to the new cost of buying them direct? If I buy direct I get the return protection if they don't fit, and with you I am taking a risk you're a scammer.

Generally even on eBay, brand new stuff sells for half - 2/3 the new price.

You can't hope to recover what you spent.

Plus once delivery and "buyer protection" is added on it will be most likely over £90

I would have thought £50 is realistic

CoffeeWithHer · 26/02/2025 19:50

I doubt you’ll sell them for £70 either…I’ve got a brand new Burberry girls jacket on there for £35, which I’ve dropped from £50 (which is a bargain anyway!) but I get people look for bargains (like I do!) so I’ll leave it and drop to £25 next week. You don’t get like for like.

It’s dead money now so just unload them and price at £50…and take £45(!) just get rid otherwise they’ll still be in your bedroom next year.

But as a side note I don’t understand when people price what they’ve paid for - I can get it online, from the shop with free delivery 😅 why will I buy the screwed up version?!

I think you're doing a fine job of attempting to sell them on MN!

StarDolphins · 26/02/2025 19:53

I buy DM’s off vinted & I wouldn’t pay that much when you factor in postage & fees.

I’ve had a brand new pair for £70 & a nearly new pair (only worn inside but didn’t break in enough for the seller) for £60

99victoria · 26/02/2025 19:53

I sold my DMs on Vinted for £80 last year within 24 hours of listing them. They were £150 new (and no longer on the market) and i'd only worn them a couple of times so they looked brand new. I listed them for £90 expecting to accept an offer

Audiprettier · 26/02/2025 19:54

Gingerbreadcottage · 26/02/2025 18:32

I’ve never even worn them , so frustrating

I generally put items on for half price (only if they are unworn/new etc.). Any others, less than that!

Pinkdreams · 26/02/2025 19:55

I get way more sales on Facebook marketplace than I do Vinted, especially the more expensive items

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 26/02/2025 19:58

Of course someone will buy a brand new pair of DMs on Vinted for £85. Make sure you post a picture of the receipt and lots of pictures to show the boots are unworn. Also post a link to them on Dr Marten's website and mention they're sold out. That said, you will have to take into account postage and buyer's protection. With this in mind, I'd list for £75.

However, they're pretty specific, so unlikely to be a quick sale, so if you're looking to shift them quickly, price for £50. Personally though, I'd wait it out for £70.

MeganM3 · 26/02/2025 19:59

I'd pay £40 maximum.

saraclara · 26/02/2025 20:00

Why would anyone risk them not fitting, at that price? It's not like they can return them like you could have done. It's madness to spend real money on shoes online, without the option of returning them if they don't fit.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 26/02/2025 20:03

I've bought 2 pairs of DMs off Vinted. One pair not worn, £35 and one pair barely worn, like new for £60

You will not get what you almost paid for them. People don't go on vinted to buy for £5 less than what they are in the shops. We're all looking for a bargain. That's not a bargain

CremeEggThief · 26/02/2025 20:05

YABU. Very greedy of you to expect what you paid for them almost in full!
