Surely you must have a medical qualification before you remove someones nose?

MistressoftheDarkSide · 24/02/2025 21:22

But you could argue the same about breast augmentation - or reduction. Or any elective surgery. Actual limb amputation is highly unlikely although I believe there are psychiatric conditions that make people desire it, but that's a different thing.

All surgery comes with a risk. Safeguards do exist for that reason. When it comes to aesthetics where does one draw the line indeed?

This woman has done something that has shock value for sure. But she's done it of her own volition and is happy to live with it.

I question the wisdom of Botox, but that's mainstream now and no-one bats an eyelid - or can't possibly....

I think there are much bigger problems in the world to froth about.

tillyandmilly · 24/02/2025 21:23

Why!!!! Sorry I could not look at the picks - it made me very nauseous just looking at the first one

StepAwayFromGoogling · 24/02/2025 21:23

Kahless · 24/02/2025 21:20

So what about a breast reduction? That's healthy bits....

Not the same thing. Cutting both breasts off would be the equivalent.

Mum2jenny · 24/02/2025 21:24

Obviously if she is mentally sound, it’s her choice. I don’t agree with it and think the person carrying out the surgery must have checked her mental status. But, ultimately, it’s her decision.
I, personally, don’t understand such a choice, but she must be permitted to do this (if she is mentally sound) if she so chooses.

nahthatsnotforme · 24/02/2025 21:25

She has her tongue and her eyeballs tattooed.

How painful must that be

Mingenious · 24/02/2025 21:25

The only answer is that she’s mentally very ill and her illness has been exploited by a surgeon and the media.

HRTQueen · 24/02/2025 21:25

Treesarenotforeating · 24/02/2025 20:28

Moreover
who is the person that did the surgery
they should be struck off

I agree

its very sad many people are taken advantage of by unscrupulous surgeons and clinics

Stai · 24/02/2025 21:25

What does her being ‘pretty before’ (in your words) before have anything to do with it? Yes it’s unusual, and definitely unique, and there could or could not be mental health issues, but being ‘pretty’ before surely shouldn’t be a factor. Being pretty is completely subjective.

Maxorias · 24/02/2025 21:25

MistressoftheDarkSide · 24/02/2025 21:03

Maybe she got fed up of the assumptions made about her when she was a "pretty blonde". Maybe this is her way of sticking two fingers up to misogyny.

I think this fits the definition of "cutting off your nose to spite your face" 😂

hoarahloux · 24/02/2025 21:26

StepAwayFromGoogling · 24/02/2025 21:14

I think people are missing the point. Doctors, including surgeons, take an oath to 'do no harm'. How can cutting off someone's nose do no harm?! And where does it stop? What if I want both arms removed? Honestly, it's mutilation and it shouldn't be allowed.

I think if you feel so strongly about wanting your arm removed, what's the issue?

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10340271/

BID is a recognised disorder and while it is described here as a mental illness, the woman studied here was significantly happier and healthier once her leg was removed. I'd love to know how she's doing now.

SnoopySantaPaws · 24/02/2025 21:27

Are you quite well?

Clearly not.

I wouldn't say I'm frothing. Just amazed you can get bits of you cut off without medical reason.

I guess it's just such a stark difference

Can't believe you started a thread just to slate a woman's appearance.

Oh come ooooooon. This whole ridiculous "how very dare you ever say or even think anything about how someone looks, IF they're a woman, because that's unsisterly/unfeminist" stuff is disingenuous, illogical claptrap.

If we're only not allowed to discuss women's appearance but men are fair game, why? Seems a bit sexist. Are we allowed to say positive things about a woman's appearance or is it all discussion of it that's banned?

People who do this kind of stuff want to shock and be talked about. If you don't want people to say "yikes she cut her nose off" you could, you know, not cut your nose off. Of course people will discuss that and have views on it.

lifeonmars100 · 24/02/2025 21:31

greengreyblue · 24/02/2025 20:59

Wouldn’t want to be near her when she has a cold.

after the initial shock that was the first thing I thought. I have a cold at the moment, lots of sneezing and a streaming nose and my mind immediatley jumped to what it would be like with no nostrils

chocmalt · 24/02/2025 21:32

Scary, and some of that is likely to lead to health issues down the road, even if she doesn't eventually regret the aesthetic. I'd honestly be devastated if I had an adult child who chose something like this. I can't see how you can be a happy, well-adjusted person and go to these extremes to deface yourself.

Mum2jenny · 24/02/2025 21:32

Personally I view Botox in much the same way. It’s a choice to ‘add’ or ‘mutilate’ your body for personal gratification.
Each to their own, but I’m not ever engaging in such practices. I’m too too chicken!

SnoopySantaPaws · 24/02/2025 21:32

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 24/02/2025 20:45

Yes, I’m fine.

I’m not the one ripping apart a woman’s appearance.

Also, I really like the horns mods.

You claim to like the horns. I'm not sure you are fine to be honest.

I don't think anyone is ripping apart her appearance.

I don't think anyone should be allowed to remove a persons nose like that.

Comparing it to fillers is mad. I don't like seeing the fillers either, but it's not like what's been done to her nose.

I feel sorry for her for whatever trauma has led her to this place.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 24/02/2025 21:33

There are people who enjoy being suspended on hooks in various parts if the body due to the endorphin release. It's derived from shamanic practises and is often incorporated into live performance.

There's a whole weird world out there that is anthropologically fascinating. Some people just like living on the edge. I couldn't imagine throwing myself out of a plane for the thrill of it, but lots of people do.

RedHelenB · 24/02/2025 21:35

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 24/02/2025 20:29

I quite like the forehead horns.

Her body, her choice.
(And she looks far less weird than the ‘filler queens’.)

You really think that?

Mum2jenny · 24/02/2025 21:24

Someone mentally sound could never choose to do this to themselves. If someone does choose to do this, they aren't mentally sound. Fact.

JustTalkToThem · 24/02/2025 20:45

She had body mods in the first picture too - lip fillers, probably tanning bed, straightened and dyed hair, lashes. Just you think that looked "pretty"

Actually no I don't like that look either.

but tanning beds (as bad as they are for you!!) and hair straightening colouring, I'm not Body mods. It's nothing like having half your nose removed and things put in your head to look like you have horns.

Nothing like the same thing at all & and no, I don't find that look pretty.
