To think random man got his just deserts to his unsolicited comments today?

Weartherose · 22/02/2025 15:21

I'm wearing a sports top today to indicate support for a match later today.

Was at the supermarket today and this man, clocked my shirt rolled his eyes and riffed off the Name Three Songs comment and said "I bet you can't name 3 players". So I asked him if he was at the stadium (200 miles away) for momentous match a fortnight ago when X Y and Z scored?

He had the grace to look a bit abashed.

Why do some folk assume you are not fans when you wear band/location/ten shirts? Is it just to show off their superior knowledge?

Did everyone stop and cheer? Like a movie??

scanni · 22/02/2025 15:23

Is this him with his just desert?

RobinHeartella · 22/02/2025 15:25

Kudos for spelling just deserts correctly. Lots will come on the thread telling you you've got it wrong.

Mind you, I wouldn't have bothered to respond to the tiresome man

Othermentions · 22/02/2025 15:26

So you didn’t name the 3 players 😂

PurpleFlower1983 · 22/02/2025 15:26

It’s desserts not deserts.

He probably knew his favourite band before they were famous. 🤣

My teenage dd wears a lot of band tshirts, she's very into music and can reel off songs and facts like nobody's business.

She's had the 'three songs' comment quite a few times by middle age men, but she can't be arsed so she usually makes a dinosaur noise at them and walks away.

Far more effective than engaging with them.

MasterBeth · 22/02/2025 15:30

What noise does a dinosaur make?

Yes there was tumultuous applause from the stands, fireworks and flag waving. Rather slowed down the shoppers buying their Guinness.

It’s desserts not deserts.

No it is deserts. As in what the person deserves. If you think about it it makes sense. You don’t give people trifle for poor behaviour 😅

Ah sorry missed that

Ablondiebutagoody · 22/02/2025 15:32

Wearing sports shirts leads to inane banter. It's to be expected

PurpleFlower1983 · 22/02/2025 15:26

It’s desserts not deserts.

No it isn't. It is pronounced like desserts but spelled deserts - as in what is deserved not as in deserts such as the Sahara.

nirishism · 22/02/2025 15:33

Oh and OP well done. Small man syndrome, looking for any opportunity to assert himself over someone else. May not even realise it’s what he’s doing. Very poor behaviour indeed.

taxguru · 22/02/2025 15:33

Sadly, wearing footie tops brings out the idiots. My OH and son used to wear them out occasionally, and got utterly fed up of the stupid comments and weirdos trying to make friends with them. Now they only wear them to go to matches and even then, tend to wear them under other things. Once, OH was coming back from Med holiday, sat minding his own business in a departure lounge, wearing a footie top as a t-shirt - a "village idiot" type of person targeted him and just wouldn't leave him alone. He's not done it again since!

It's just the assumption that the wearers a fairweather fans that is irksome. Happy to have a chat about the obvious common interest.

when the approach is "your knowledge is lesser" it's only conducive to me thinking "you're a special twat".

Well let’s be honest, many many are. My tween daughter has a Rolling Stones t shirt.. she’s listened to a song or two at best!

Um, you know the OP is correct, right? It’s deserts.

OneTC · 22/02/2025 15:36

TIL (and my 90 year old mum) that deserts is the correct phrase
