To think random man got his just deserts to his unsolicited comments today?

I'm wearing a sports top today to indicate support for a match later today.

Was at the supermarket today and this man, clocked my shirt rolled his eyes and riffed off the Name Three Songs comment and said "I bet you can't name 3 players". So I asked him if he was at the stadium (200 miles away) for momentous match a fortnight ago when X Y and Z scored?

He had the grace to look a bit abashed.

Why do some folk assume you are not fans when you wear band/location/ten shirts? Is it just to show off their superior knowledge?

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime I think the jokes ended when I was about 12, but when I was in my mid 30s a colleague asked me quite seriously if my name meant something (which was what I was teased about).
It was something that common sense would have said it wasn't.

I don't want to give my real name but something along the lines of asking if Duncan meant 'brown tin'.

@viques , deserts is dIz-ERTS or DEZ-erts, desserts is dis-SERTS.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/02/2025 12:56

It's the way that every single twerp thinks he is being original when he comes out with something you've heard a hundred (thousand) (ten thousand) times that gets me. Do they really believe nobody else got there before them?

I did once congratulate someone who actually managed to find a new joke to make about my dog... a Dalmatian. As opposed to the usual "does he have a spotty dick?" hohoho idiots. I was sincere, and he was surprised.

My brother was telling me recently about taking my Mum to the local hospital where she had been checked over by a Dr Livingstone. As soon as he said her name, he added 'Don't say it, apparently everybody does ...' I imagine this means he may have done it himself, either that or she got in first to prevent him. Poor woman. Grin

Ex English teacher here.

It’s desert’.
Nothing to do with camels or sand.
’Desert’ is an old noun for ‘Deserve’. So the phrase means, “Got what they deserved.”

GellerYeller · 23/02/2025 16:28

We often get ‘name 3 songs’. My favourite response is to reply that I’m happy to,if they can name all the band members first.
No one cheered or clapped.

Brefugee · 23/02/2025 17:08

i don't think we should play the "name 3 songs" shit game though. The only real answer is "why the heck should i?"

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/02/2025 19:26

How about "Oooh, is it a new game? You go first."

My teenage dd wears a lot of band tshirts, she's very into music and can reel off songs and facts like nobody's business.

She's had the 'three songs' comment quite a few times by middle age men, but she can't be arsed so she usually makes a dinosaur noise at them and walks away.

Far more effective than engaging with them.

Your daughter is my new spirit animal

Well done OP, I love to hear it!

Hope all the people thinking they’re clever correcting your spelling of “just desserts” p off now.

I’m not old enough to know what noises dinosaurs made.

RaveToTheGrave1 · 23/02/2025 20:50

HouseAshamed · 24/02/2025 07:15

Some people are just a holes. What a child!!

Stigolini · 24/02/2025 11:17

OP spelled 'deserts' correctly. Desserts are sweets.

What noise does a dinosaur make?

Nowadays - silence
