To expect compensation from holiday company

Changing a few details and being vague to remain unidentifiable. My partner and I recently had a 2 week holiday somewhere warm to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. On day 2 of the holiday my husband was injured as a result of something breaking (that shouldn't have). He grazed his forearm from fingertip to elbow, slight grazing to the leg and suffered a bump to the head. He received first aid from a hotel employee including an ice pack for his head. The next few days were a write off until his wounds healed and he didn't feel so sore. I have pictures of it all and the bruises He still had 6 days later. It was reported at the time and the travel company representatives checked in on him.
On our return I submitted the photos and a report of the incident to the travel company for some kind of apology / compensation, but they have told us that is not possible as we did not get a medical report.
This seems so unfair and we are wondering if we should take it further. What are our chances? Anyone have any experience of this.

Depends what broke? Sounds like an accident all round?

TheDandyLion · 18/02/2025 11:13

Wouldn't your travel insurance cover it?

PinkPonyClub25 · 18/02/2025 11:14

YANBU for a graze! Come on op it's not like he broke a bone.

PinkPonyClub25 · 18/02/2025 11:14

*YABU even. Why is there no edit button on the app? Angry

From grazes and a bump? If I was a holiday company I'd think you were taking the piss. If he was so bad he couldn't do anything for days, then yes, I'd expect there to be some evidence to back this up.

paranoiaofpufflings · 18/02/2025 11:18

I would have expected an apology from the hotel staff at the time, and it does sound like they took care of you.
But it sounds as though something breaking was an accident, and accidents happen, so any financial claim for loss of holiday should be on your travel insurance - this is what insurance is for.

I will add a photo of his arm. This was taken the day after the incident after all the blood had been cleaned up. It wasn't a simple graze.

Oh come on op that's not that bad! 😆🤣

McSpoot · 18/02/2025 11:25

Unless there is some drip feed of your partner having some sort of underlying medical condition, that does not look like the kind of injury that would mean that he couldn't enjoy the holiday for days. I would not expect anything more than you've already received.

WindyRoses · 18/02/2025 11:26

That??? That causes him to sit out 6 days until he didn't feel sore??!

chelseahealyslips · 18/02/2025 11:26

Oh give over. Following your update with the pic, I think you've got no chance of any compensation whatsoever if thats what you're after! It was a scratch!

BeaAndBen · 18/02/2025 11:27

Don’t be daft, OP!

Doggymummar · 18/02/2025 11:28

That's a scratch, he's being a bit wimpy here!

FiveShelties · 18/02/2025 11:29

Haha, good one @Ihaveausername. I thought you were serious until I saw the picture😂

Savemefromwetdog · 18/02/2025 11:30

How on earth did that make your holiday a write
off? Do either of you have health anxiety?

Just sounds like an accident; it happens.

Porkproducts · 18/02/2025 11:30

If it's something like a chair he was sitting on broke I'd expect a free bottle or wine or similar. Definitely not monetary compensation.

How on earth was he recovering from that for 6 days? It doesn't look too bad at all in the photo.

'Wounds'

FFS 😂

Bakedpotatoes · 18/02/2025 11:31

OP, this is said with kindness but that's basically a few scratches - how did it ruin the holiday for the next few days? I think if something broke that shouldn't have, then you should get a written apology and a £10 voucher or something but I wouldn't be expecting lots of compensation to be honest.

Sandandsea123 · 18/02/2025 11:31

That’s hilarious op. It’s a tiny graze, he needs to give his head a wobble if that causes days of it being a write off! No you don’t deserve compensation

PandaCwtch · 18/02/2025 11:31

Based just on that photo, I'd expect you to get short shrift from the travel co and also from any insurer. Maybe there's a hint of bruise on the hand, but the grazes look really minor so I understand why they'd be asking for a medical report if you are trying to claim that resulted in wasting more than a couple of hours of holiday.

YoungGunsHavingSomeFunCrazyLadiesKeepEmOnTheRun · 18/02/2025 11:32

He wrote off 6 days of a holiday for that?

My kid gets injuries like that doing sports and barely sits out for 6 minutes.

I don't think holidays companies pay compensation for people being over dramatic.

IlooklikeNigella · 18/02/2025 11:33

Get a grip please.

countrygirl99 · 18/02/2025 11:33

I'd seriously consider if I wanted a future with such an utter wuss.

Cyclebabble · 18/02/2025 11:34

You have a minor scratch. Free drink at the bar and maybe a voucher. Anything else would be OTT.

And now that I've seen the photo, it's definitely taking the piss! That's tiny scratches. The very definition of a simple graze!
