To expect compensation from holiday company

Changing a few details and being vague to remain unidentifiable. My partner and I recently had a 2 week holiday somewhere warm to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. On day 2 of the holiday my husband was injured as a result of something breaking (that shouldn't have). He grazed his forearm from fingertip to elbow, slight grazing to the leg and suffered a bump to the head. He received first aid from a hotel employee including an ice pack for his head. The next few days were a write off until his wounds healed and he didn't feel so sore. I have pictures of it all and the bruises He still had 6 days later. It was reported at the time and the travel company representatives checked in on him.
On our return I submitted the photos and a report of the incident to the travel company for some kind of apology / compensation, but they have told us that is not possible as we did not get a medical report.
This seems so unfair and we are wondering if we should take it further. What are our chances? Anyone have any experience of this.

So a chair or something broke, he scratched his arm a bit and he needed 6 days of bedrest?

I mean, come on.

heldinadream · 18/02/2025 11:35

That robust, muscular looking, young looking bloke sat out half a holiday for that scratch?
LOL. Nice try OP. 😂

theteachesofleeches · 18/02/2025 11:36

😂😂"wounds" OMG what are you on about OP? If he was 5 I would expect more resilience 😂😂

theemmadilemma · 18/02/2025 11:37

Brilliant.

Wounds, aka scratch a toddler could handle.

DazzyRascale · 18/02/2025 11:37

I imagine that was sore.

But a free dinner kind of sore, not compensation for wounds.

anonhop · 18/02/2025 11:38

This is a wind up

DazzyRascale · 18/02/2025 11:39

Not sure why you felt the need to change a few details in your post either, given that the picture will be quite identifiable to anyone who knows you in real life

Ihaveausername · 18/02/2025 11:40

I wasn't trying to drip feed, but someone asked about underlying health conditions. He is 70, had 2 strokes 18 months ago and is on blood thinners. It wasn't a chair. It was the floor!!!

Give it up @Ihaveausername , no one's buying it! 😂

I will add a photo of his arm. This was taken the day after the incident after all the blood had been cleaned up. It wasn't a simple graze.

That's a photo of a simple graze

I’m sympathetic that he has health conditions however if those are the ‘wounds’ that caused him to have to ruin 6 days of his holiday then that’s on you - not the hotel. I’m a bit embarrassed on your behalf that you’re pursuing this.

A free dinner? A glass of Coca Cola.

I was going to suggest that maybe he is a footballer, they have form for massively overreacting to small injuries 😂

I've had worse playing rugby, and have stayed on the pitch and continued. I cannot see how this could ruin 6 days of a holiday.

You won't get compensation from the holiday company, but maybe you could get your money back on the husband.

SoftPillow · 18/02/2025 11:45

I’m afraid that is just a simple graze. Irrespective of previous health issues, it is still a simple graze.

With a similar injury I’d expect a toddler to have a cry, clean the graze, ice pack for a head bump and be back on their feet doing all normal activities within 15 mins. For an adult as above but without the cry.

This is difficult, but it doesn’t make them any more responsible because he has underlying health issues.

Were your plans for the week to be diving but you were worried the open wound would attract sharks?

Swellbowler23 · 18/02/2025 11:47

I think your update is relevant. I think people are being unnecessarily unkind, a 70 year old having a fall like that could absolutely put someone out of commission for a few days, especially if you say the floor itself broke! I would be inclined to let it go myself as I don't think the company will relent but I am sorry your holiday was ruined op.

ilovesooty · 18/02/2025 11:47

People doing this kind of thing just make it difficult for those pursuing credible claims.

Flutterbees · 18/02/2025 11:48

If he really sat out for 6 days, and given his pre-existing health conditions, why did you not see a Doctor to make sure he was ok? If you weren't concerned enough to see a Doctor, it sounds pretty minor.

Ihaveausername · 18/02/2025 11:48

We got nothing from the hotel. They didn't even check up on him. It was the holiday company that checked up on him. I know it looks like a simple graze but when you are on blood thinners AND you have a head injury it is very worrying.
OK we may be out of order wanting compensation but not even a £10 voucher off our next holiday.
And yes we did have travel insurance, cost a lot due to his medical history. But nothing to claim there as he didn't want to see a doctor.

I fell on holiday and fractured three toes on day two. I strapped them up, took some paracetamol and got on with my holiday. Even if he has health issues that is a simple graze, I get worse than that most weeks as I have a slight issue with balance and special awareness so I fall over or against stuff.

It does make them responsible if the floor breaks. I'm not saying OP should get a total refund but an apology would be nice.

Fencehedge · 18/02/2025 11:48

🤣 My cat's done worse than that after a decent play session. The holiday company are laughing at that boo-boo mate.

You obviously weren't worried his blood thinners and head bump were going to cause an internal bleed or stroke, as you did not seek medical help.

MissUltraViolet · 18/02/2025 11:49

Bloody hell OP. My child has had worse ‘grazes’ than that and gone right back out to play after a clean up and bandage/plaster.

Needed a few days to heal, alright. 😂
