To be fucked off the neighbours use my drive constantly

My drive is big enough for about 3 cars if they squeeze on. We have a car which normally gets blocked in by the neighbours who use ours without asking.

It also means if we have visitors, they don't have anywhere to park and they have to find somewhere up the street although the roads are skinny and it's a bit of a nightmare (and I guess that's why they won't do it).

They usually get about 5 visitors a day and don't ask if they can use it first.

I wouldn't mind every now and then (which I have said before) but it's almost every day now and I think they're taking the piss.

I've tried speaking to them and they have said that the visitors don't stay for long so it doesn't matter?

Gate

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 17/02/2025 16:14

So do they use your driveway or block your driveway?

They block our car in by using our driveway

Telling it's fine every now and then is clouding the issue. Go back and say that they and their visitors are no longer to use your drive at all.

Gate

I think that's going to be our only option but just think it's rude to do this.

Can you always keep a car parked at the base of the driveway so they can't access it?

Have you spoken to them?

I'd not tolerate it.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 17/02/2025 16:16

Tell them it's no longer convenient

Guggenheim78 · 17/02/2025 16:17

It’s not rude to put a gate on your own driveway but it is expensive.

Dolambslikemintsauce · 17/02/2025 16:17

Block off one side with pots. Leave enough space for your car only.

Park at the end of your drive so they can’t get on, proper rude they’re doing this!

PinkPonyClub25 · 17/02/2025 16:18

Knock on their door and tell them to stop parking on it before you block them in.

I did think of parking the car at a weird angle but because it's quite a wide drive way they would still be able to get around it.

I think gates/fence is going to be the way forward.

Just find it crazy that they always do it without asking and even if I'm out the front and tell them I have got visitors coming they will say 'well our friends won't be staying long so don't worry'

Good idea! I could always try this before the gate option and see if it makes a difference. Probably won't cost as much either

CreationNat1on · 17/02/2025 16:21

Note on windscreen. Please stop parking on my drive.

I've said to them before that if they're going to have extra visitors and need the space then to come and ask me and it would usually be fine but please don't use the drive without asking, they seemed fine. I've also had visitors turn up when there has been cars on my drive and I've asked them to move but that's taken a good 20 mins/ half an hour.

You should never have given them an "in" in the first place by ever allowing it. The "now and then" has made them entitled.
You are now in the unfortunate position of having to halt it altogether because they have taken the piss. This is why we cannot have nice things.
It is the same as any favours that people become accustomed to. I am so sorry. Gate or bollards. What a pain.

Whotenanny · 17/02/2025 16:24

Can you park so they can't get through their door or gate, even by walking? Just to show them how annoying it is. Tell them your drive is no longer available for their use in any circumstances. Visitors can park on the street.

Pinkywoo · 17/02/2025 16:24

May I be the first to suggest fanfare .....

Penguin bollards.

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 17/02/2025 16:25

Why are you worrying about being rude to them? Cheeky bastards

sanityisamyth · 17/02/2025 16:25

Why is it rude to put a gate across your land. They don't give a crap about the boundary so you need to enforce it. Use it or lose it.

crappymeal · 17/02/2025 16:26

Their kids seem to play out the front and end up playing football on our drive too as we have a brick wall which is often used as a 'goal'. It's all just getting a bit annoying. Will see if any suggestions help. Thanks everyone.

Can we have a drawing please OP

InsegnanteScozzese · 17/02/2025 16:26

No good deed goes unpunished. Tell them it's no longer convenient and then plant pots and park in such a way that prevents it. Good luck.
